There was a pretty sweet sale at Palmetto State a little while back, so I figured I'd take a chance on a frame and slide of unknown origin (PSA brand is possibly Remsport) and put together a backup 1911 to my current competition gun. Financially not as smart as just buying a Springfield or a Colt but I've never been accused of enormous money sense :D

So far nothing looks obviously out of spec...the frame ramp may be a bit narrow, but the slide goes on and off without any need for files or lapping compound. Will update as it starts coming together. A Kart Ez fit barrel is en route. I haz excited

The hood is too long, but the width was just right.http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/11/b30b5f8b67a4b2ca9d1888b0cd38d917.jpg

A few detail pics of the slide. Novak cuts are my preference

Front cocking serrations are nice

The only extractor I use is an Ed Brown.

Barrel is fitted...has appropriate lug lockup as tested by the preferred method...damn layout past just gets everywhere! http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/15/ab77ea8a85df82c212d70074583112d7.jpg

The bushing was a real bastard. I've gotta find a better way to fit those because it was an equally tedious process for my first build...who is anxiously awaiting the birth of her little sister http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/15/be9f0928a910c3fa884feaf987c03a66.jpg

Got some grip safety hijinks to mention...I was told by Brownells that a Wilson safety would fit a .250 radius frame, so being the total idiot I am, I bought one, only to find that they use a compound radius and proprietary jig...being an even bigger genius, I already started the process of fitting the beavertail. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/15/ba16038e7aa9bd38cdcbc45678c33341.jpg
By some miracle, it functions, though it will require some blending.

It's damn comfortable though. I'm considering switching my other 1911s to Wilson beavertails...

After probably 36 total hours, I'm done with all the tedious parts...barrel, beavertail and bushing. The rest should fall into place shortly. Hoping Brownells delivers the last few bits and hopefully have a test fire done this coming week. End result pic will be in the 1911 picture thread. Will update this one with other minutiae. Til the new build has had a thousand or so rounds, my first build will stay my primary gun.http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/15/0947a14247cb72a92a624ce436da9e4c.jpg

Still working on improving my score on the 200 drill!

Thank you for the photo essay.

My first carry pistol was a 1911, and they shall always have a place in my heart.

Thank you for the photo essay...

+1... Thanks!
Never owned a 1911, but always admired the aesthetics.

Also, the top end has been finished and correctly tuned. Extractor tension being set with the tools below. Sure beats the ol "bend and check" trick that never worked for me.

I've become enamored with the Wilson Combat Battlesight...I've been incredibly impressed with every bit of Wilson's equipment. Kudos and hat tips where they are due.
