I've noticed a few members her have Glock 17Ls and really seem to like them.

I generally shoot 34's better than 17s. I recently got to fondle a 17L in my LGS. I liked the sight radius and the trigger. I carry a 17 & 26 for work so I was thinking about picking one up as a range toy /trainer.

What are the Pros and cons of the 17L ?

Are they available as blue labels ?

Thanks

It's more or less what you think it is. I've shot a couple. The .40 version (24) with factory ball feels like a 9mm and if you wanted to shoot Limited (major) and didn't reload would get around the obnoxious recoil other .40 glocks have. I guess the 17L would give more wiggle room if loading 9 major.

For anything else I don't see a point to a 6" Glock. YMMV. I've never heard anyone say they're less reliable than a regular Glock.

I love my 17L. It is easily the most fun gun I own and it does a lot of really cool stuff. I posted a while back some chrono data of various loads -> http://www.vdmsr.com/2015/04/chrono-on-various-glocks.html You'll see at the bottom it shot Liberty Civil Defense 50gr at 2200fps. That's....awesome.

If you are looking for a gun to NOT carry, but specifically for HD or gaming, this is probably the best option for you.

I had a G34 when I bought the G17L and I can say without hesitation the G17L is slightly more accurate. I ran 200 drills (http://www.vdmsr.com/search?q=200+drill) with both and compared them my EDC G19 and it was obvious that the G17L is more accurate, especially with good sights. Its really smooth shooting and the OEM trigger is slightly better than the Gen4 G34 trigger.

I keep one for HD now since I don't game but even as a suppressor host it's pretty damn good.

The 17L is a very nicely balanced and soft shooting pistol. Every person I've let shoot it comments on how much they like it - usually with a big grin on their face. I often get questions like, "what did you modify to make it shoot so well?" The answer of course is nothing. It comes with the same minus connector as the G34/35 guns, and the same RSA as 17/34's. But whatever they did to come up with the slide weight, they cracked the code IMO.

As Voodoo said, it's a bit much to carry concealed. Mine has been my nightstand gun for as long as I've had it and it's completely reliable. I recently put an ALG 6 Second Mount on it with a T-1. It's easily my favorite Glock and I have them in every size 9mm they make.

My only gripe is they don't offer a Gen 4 version of it.

Why mess with perfection?

Haha! Because every gen 3 I've had or shot needs skate board tape on the grip. With a Gen 4 I don't need that. I almost decided to leave the 17L upper on the RTF2 frame I just bought.

When they make a gen4 17L, I will have to get one.

Are they available as blue labels ?

Thanks

I saw one in the display case at GT Distributors last time I was there but don't believe they had a blue label price on it. Worth calling their main number to find out though

I would wish the MHS to usher in a Gen 5 with a hard RTF2 treatment and include that on a G17L/G24.

Y'all can have that Gen 4 17 L once I get my 17 MOS.

Seriously - if I get a 17L what sight height - regular 19/17 height or taller 34 height ?

I've found regular 17 sights work fine.

The MHS isn't something I'd hold my breath for. I suspect we will have better luck getting a Gen 5 from the FBI competition.

With the HD's I use the regular sights. I previously had 10-8's with the brass head. I can't recall, but I expect I used the guide on their site which recommends a .235" for the 17L and 34/35/24.

I use the regular warren sights on my 17L and they work fine. FWIW>

I'm going to be the dissident here. I have a 17L and don't much like it. In part it's because I like Gen4 frames better, but in part because the G34 seems to balance better for me.

Of course, if I lived in a free state that allowed suppressors, maybe I'd have a different point of view . . . .

I shot a bone stock one a few months back. First impression was it was silly big. I wasn't too impressed with it. Wasn't as smooth as a gen 4 G17. That and it had the horrid factory extended slide release, which likes to randomly lock back on me at times (with my grip the slide release is on the middle of my thumb muscle. Glocks generally don't lock back for me anymore).

Gen 5? You mean that gen 4 with an ambi manual safety? lol whatever floats your boat.

I suspect the Gen 5 references are about the FBI RFP submission we anticipate. I don't know anyone here pining for a manual safety Glock.

As for the extended slide stop lever, all my Glocks have them. With a proper grip it won't interfere.

I use a grip similar to Vogel.

Ummmm . . . I'm not sure about "pining," but in the absence of a Gadget I would very much like a Glock 19 (or two) with a well-designed factory safety. If the safety is nice enough, I might even prefer it over a Gadget.

I CCWed a 17L for about 6 years. It was very accurate and one of my favorites. You can't go wrong.

AIWB? I recall a legit poster on another forum quite a few years back doing so. I dabbled at it briefly with one. I wish I'd hung onto it.

Glock has made G17s with manual safeties for some foreign police contracts including the Tasmanian police in Australia. The also made prototypes for the British military handgun trials, though the Brits eventually wound up with regular Gen 4 17's

Thee is a thumb safety conversion but it is right hand only. It works but is mushy and generally considered kind of meh.

At 3 o'clock in a G19 holster, after I shot a long string at LFI I, holstered and bent down to retrieve mags and, Ooohwee, a cattle brand on my thigh. :)
