I got an email from Glockmeister about pre-ordering the latest version of the LAV G17 and G19. The illustration (http://www.glockmeister.com/GLOCK-17-Vickers-Tactical-Gray-RTF2/productinfo/G17VTG/) shows a type of grip plug that sticks out enough to alleviate "G19 blister".

I've been looking for a grip plug like this for quite some time, but I can't find anything on them. Has anyone seen these plugs in the wild?

Thanks in advance,

Okie John

Looks like it makes the pistol g17 length... Why not just get a g17?

I've just seen them on SSD in the announcement of Lipseys releasing the "Vickers Glocks in gray" or whatever. Looks solid and attractive to me as a victim of 19 bite. I'm having a 19 done up by Arsenal Democracy and was planning on a Zev Pro Magwell but might T&E one of these.

For real. I mean, just an hour ago it was 1:32 pm PST, now it's 2:32.

RTF2 is one sweet grip treatment for shooting. IMO, from looking a couple over, the FDE LAV RTF2 were less aggressive than the original.

You are exactly right, JHC. I have a couple of the original RTF's which I like very much. I bought an FDE Vickers strictly to get another RTF frame, but I was sorely disappointed by the watered down texture. The Gen 4 frames have more "grip" than the Vickers RTF.

I do like that the grays are coming with the fiber optic front site.

Agreed on the RTF2. That is disappointing about the LAV RTF2 Glocks. I was considering one because of the RTF2.

Search continues...

Gray is a very nice color, but I like my Glocks black.

Here is a link to the Glock grip plug/tool. I think I will pass on it. https://tangodown.com/shop/vickers-tactical-grip-plug-takedown-tool-for-glock-ggt01/

For that kind of added length to the most print-y part of the grip I'd rather add a low-pro magwell, like a Suarez, Agency, or perhaps the new Zev. I really don't see that angle bevel being better than my Glockmeister plugs. Actually, it looks like it'd be worse.

I suppose having a tool in the grip would be cool if I were to go play out any The Road fantasies though.

For whatever reason that tool looks dangerous to me, I hope it comes with a warning.

I hope so too. And then it begs the question, does it have my number?

They should've called it the Vicker's Tactical Shiv Plug...

I might try one. Looks like a neat little tchotchke.

I keep breaking mine. :(

I played with one of these today.

It sucks as a disassembly tool compared to the official Glock one. Not enough leverage for removing base plates easily.

There's also no way to remove it from the grip without a glock tool, so....

My how times have changed.

Must be one of those game boy Glocks.

FredM, not being a wise guy, but I have to ask...is this serious or joking? If serious, how??

Almost daily practice performing reloads, I guess?

I've broken several as well. The spring part just gives out and the plug falls free.

Yup. Latest one happened when I was shooting with Todd. :)

Handled a Grey Vickars 19 and 17 today. Was able to pull the grip plug tool out by hand. No problems. It had a stock trigger from visual inspection, but it felt very crisp. The sights are nice...

Is there anything that can be said for the method of filling the rear void with epoxy? Probably wouldn't break then...

Not a fan of "I've got your number", but like the idea of having the tool on end of plug. Can envision some scenarios where you might need armorer's tool & not have one otherwise.

Grip plugs do serve a good purpose.

Glock should not have left the grip opening, open. Besides keeping out debris, which has not been a problem for most people, the biggest thing that they provide is that they make for a better transition for the mag into the magwell. Most plug designs improve it, but even better results can be gained when you blend the leading edges of where the pistol meets the plug internally, getting rid of the lip inside. Most hang ups, if / when they happen come from the casing end of the round in the mag hanging up on that horseshoe edge of the magwell in the grip. Blending the two edges and a heat roll of the outer edges of the magwell provide for an extremely slick magwell, better than most if not all aftermarket magwells, while still appearing to be stock.

I will also note that I do not like reductions that keep the tail flush with the magwell, so I do not like adding that tail extension, so the Vickers is out. I even cut that piece down on the P320. With Gen4 grip sizes being smaller I have not needed to glass a single gen4 for a reduction. All can be heat rolled I also do not care for a glass filled job and that includes to fill the void or shape for a magwell, but that is just personal preference.

For years my go-to and recommended grip plug was from Scherer, it appears they have gone out of business.

It makes a G19 a bit longer, but not quite as long as a G17. Here's a G19 with a G17 mag in place.

The Vickers plus looks like it's maybe half the difference....
