I'm looking at purchasing a S&W 629. I used to have one and sold it to fund a safe but have been pining over it ever since. So now I'm in the market for one. I'm interested in one that says it is a demo gun. The listing says:

This is a Smith and Wesson sales rep/dealer show demo firearm. It has been stamped by SW with a "U" denoting it used. Price is right around $700.

So I am guessing it has been dry fired many times at gun shows and stuff. Is this something I should steer clear of or look into it more? Does S&W shift gun to demo use that are not fit for sale or anything like that?

Likely not a thing wrong with that gun and I wouldn't hesitate buying it as long as the condition and price suits you. The truth is, "dealer samples" (of just about anything) can often be real bargains.

I've bought a number of S&W demo revolvers and all of them have worked extremely well at a nice discount to normal prices.
