STAY AWAY! I've owned 4 Taurus pistols and the first 3 were almost perfect. HOWEVER, the last purchase, Taurus 1911 in .45 ACP was beset with problems!. OUT of the box, the front sight fell off after 12 rounds. Call to customer service got me 2 front sights, neither of which fit. Bought Triton night sights and had them installed. By an Ex - USMC armorer. Couldn't hit anything! Always firing low and either left or right. 4 different guys shot this pistol and had the same results. Customer Service at Taurus said ship it back to us. $60 later............... there is no problem with this firearm. Except you installed aftermarket sights. I told them to fix it with factory sights and we'd be fine. They wanted $35 more for a bench fee! I'll trade it off and NEVER buy a Taurus again. Please, just stay away from them!!!!!!

So I should rethink my purchase of a Judge for open carry?

Taurus makes a 1911?

Jeez ,I thought those things were Brazilian airsoft toys.

The surprising thing isn't that your PT1911 is a POS, but rather your previous three Taurii were, "almost perfect".

Thanks for the laugh before I'm surrounded by 1st graders

I've had great luck with their revolvers but always shied away from their autos- though their Beretta 92 clones always seemed to work alright.

I hate to say this but I was shooting a match with my SW 1911 and the plunger thingee on the side unstaked for the second time (was repaired after the first). A friend let me finish the match with his
'truck' extra Taurus 1911 - it ran fine.

That being said - I had a Taurus 22LR revolver and a semi 22 LR that were total junk.

The SW went to back to SW for a fix but I'm loathe to carry it. It's a match gun.

I got asked to help fix a Taurus. When one guy shot it, it ran. When another shot it, it kept "jammin"... I get the gun, and the trigger bar is out of the frame. I get it all back together, and return it. It happens again.

I go to the lane they are shooting in to watch. Right hand shooter shoots, gun runs. Left hand shooter shoots, trigger bar falls out of the gun on recoil. Seriously. The plastic grips flex enough to allow full removal of the trigger bar. See photos.

After diagnosing the problem as "the gun is a piece of shit", the owner tells me all about the free lifetime warranty. I advise dumping the gun for a real beretta if that is what he likes. He tells me that since he only fires with his right hand, he will keep the gun and not worry about it....

And that is the average American gun owner in a nutshell.

Wow...and that is why you don't buy a Taurus. This thread is tempting me to sell my Tracker revolver in .17HMR and get something in .22LR.

I thought the .17 HMR round wasn't a good revolver choice as the brass shape caused problems. IIRC, NAA ditched 17s in their minis.

My Taurus PT-22 was an incredible jammer. Won't get through a mag, ejected live rounds, slammed shut on a live round and bent it in half. My Taurus 94 just froze the cylinder. Bye, bye to both.

On the other hand my Glock 42 had to go back to the shop. It wouldn't get through two rounds and fired out of battery (scaring the crap out of me).

Taurus makes some guns that I wish somebody else would make. Their switch cylinder .22LR/.22WMR comes to mind. Fixing them and shipping them back to FL gets expensive though. I can't afford guns that cheap.

My S&W M647-1 in .17 HMR is an excellent shooter and is one of my wife's favorites. I have experienced no issues with case setback against the standing breech with the M647-1 unlike the M53 .22 Jet. It is crucial to keep the charge holes in the cylinder dry or else case setback can occur.

My sample is one of the twelve-inch PC guns with a Lothar Walther barrel, so it does not suffer the accuracy ails of the standard M647. It is an awesome small-game (rabbit and squirrel) hunting revolver when it wears a Leupold 4X scope, and the wind is calm. It is as accurate as my Sako Quad and VQ Fusion in the same caliber up to 100 yards from a rest.

I don't see the problem. A bit of duct tape or baling wire and, voila, a gun that is better than new!

Problem is, the baling wire and duct tape are worth more then the piece they're attached to.

I'm sure that sometime, somewhere the driver of a broken-down Honda Accord has been given a ride by a passing Fiat 128, but it's not the way to bet. ;)

When a V6 Fiero runs, you've at least got a fun mid-engine car. When a Taurus runs, all you've got is a Taurus.

For what it's worth, I appreciate you sharing. I guess most people on this forum realize Taurus has iffy QC, but maybe tons of people aren't as lucky to find PF. Stick around and ask some of the members on the board for advice and they'll give you solid info, even if they make fun of you a bit. I'm new too, and ask tons of silly questions so don't be shy. :)

I shudder to think that perhaps 3 or 4 years ago I considered buying a Taurus 1911. Bought a Glock instead out of sheer dumb luck.

Now, I hear people talk about their lifetime warranty now and let them know that they will probably use it more than their pistol.

Heh, sometimes I think of getting a Taurus PT92 and putting Wilson Beretta parts in it...just to watch the world burn and do some trolling.

It seems like a new set of wood or other stiff material would fix this. I agree the material is shoddy, but I'd at least it's a quick fix.

Years ago I bought one of the first Taurus PT1911s put out. It was under $400 and I wanted to see if I would like the 1911 design. The Taurus ran fine, accurate and reliable. I shot it for over a year then sold it due to it's popularity for what I paid for it. I now have a Colt. It did serve a purpose.

That's similar to my experience as well. I think I picked one up in ~2006, sold it just last year to help fund a DW Valor. Ran fine, shot fine, action felt slick as hell, barrel/bushing/slide fit was very solid, good trigger. The finish would scratch if you so much as give it a dirty look, but overall my sample was good and I would trust that pistol over any Kimber (and some others) without question.
