View Full Version : Grandpa's Cobra

Long story short,
My father brought me an early Christmas present when he visited last week. This was my Grandfather's service revolver when he served as an auxiliary police officer back in the 1960s. From his permit and other things, it looks like this was purchased around 1960. Since he passed away in 1989, my Aunt has been hanging on to it, in the original leather service holster, in a coffee can in her closet.

For some reason she asked me about it as a viable self defense revolver. I had no idea it existed, nor that she had it. I guess she decided I would appreciate more than anyone else in the family.

So, some questions. This is going to be an heirloom piece for my family. But, I'd like to still have it checked out. The ejector rod is missing the end piece. And there is no visible corrosion or rust on it. Should I send it off to Colt? Or is there another smith that someone could recommend to have it inspected etc?

This is honestly now my most precious possession, so I am mainly looking to put it in as good a condition as I can.

Thanks

Colt won't repair it. Google Grant Cunningham. He is the best colt smith out there. Not many left.

Nm. He isn't doing it either. But he links some who are:

My first BUG looked just like that, if you add a Tyler T-Grip.

I wish I hadn't sold that gun.

Frank Glen or Cylinder and Slide are both excellent. The screw head should be out there. I got mine off Ebay when I bought an Agent that was missing one. Numrich may also have them. Great gun, I have one just like it that is one of my favorites.

Numrich only has a Nickel ejector rod head currently in stock, but that will work till you can find a blue one .... it's only $4.30

Here's a listing for a blue one on Ebay:

And lastly, here's another source for a blue one (Part# 56132):

Hope this helps .....

Thanks for the ebay links and recommendations. The other cool part is all his duty belt gear that my dad also brought along. His cuffs, a spare holster, old school black jack, cartridge case (with some not so hot looking nickel .38 cartridges)

Gonna check out the parts links.

Okay, yours looks like it has a shorter butt. Probably the photo perspective.
