I'm looking for a folder to give as a Christmas gift. Less than 100 prefer less than 75. Standard pocket clip/opener type knife. Looking for something with a kind of cool or unique factor.

I think the Kershaw Emerson CQC-6K (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I0RSVQK) and CQC-7K (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I0RQ0AO) are pretty neat and affordable waved folding knives. There is also a trainer (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00URWYM00) available. The live blades have MSRPs of $55 and $60, and the trainer is $40. However, as you can see (by following the Amazon links I provided) for less than $100 you can buy all 3. I really like having trainers for all my knifes, especially for ones with a wave feature.

+1
I also was going to recommend the CQC-6K. It's a lot of knife for $40. I picked up two of these and a trainer over the last year and I've been very satisfied with them.

The wave feature is cool. I had been looking at the spyderco matriarch wave but the price was too high and the blade was a bit extreme. This guy (my brother in law) won't train. I cant get him to buy any guns. Persian style blades have a cool factor but I can't find one in the price range with a pocket clip.

I could also consider a small straight edge with a pocket system like the one Rich@CCC has.

I really like my waved endura.

How is the steel on these? I have a benchmade griptilian but have wanted a smaller something just a little smaller for some time now.

I had a Spyderco Manix2 that I really liked. They are available for under $100. I was hesitant to use mine though which completely defeats the purpose. I have a smaller, cheaper Spyderco now that I use freely.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Pocket System", but there are quite a few great fixed blade knives out there for under $100.00 and even under $75.00.

ESSE's IZULA (http://www.eseeknives.com/izula.htm) is the first that comes to mind. The Scrapivore from Scrap Yard Knives (http://www.scrapyardknives.com/scrapivore-cg/) is another, though they are sold out more often than not.

Morakniv (http://www.moraofsweden.se/home-1.0.115.2), or Mora Knives of Sweden are quite possibly the best bang for the buck in economy priced knives.

Don't forget Battle Horse Knives (http://store.battlehorseknives.com/) and Shadow Tech Knives (http://stknives.com/). Both deliver quality, hand made knives at reasonable prices.

I can make a sheath to your specs for any knife you send me.

As a knife n00b, I really appreciated the flexibility of the Kershaw Cryo (http://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-1555G10-Folding-Knife-SpeedSafe/dp/B00I0RXYTY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1448630161&sr=8-3&keywords=kershaw+cryo). Deep carry, 4-position clip. And you can get 3 of them for about $75 at Amazon.

OK I am confused again. I think someone who is a member here at PF Makes something similar to the RCS Moduloader. Does anyone know who that person is?

I think orionz06 (Dark Star Gear) makes a sheath system for the Moduloader from RCS. I can too for that matter, I just don't have the RCS products in my line up.

edit. yes he makes a pocket system or shell ....thanks.

I mean something similar to the moduloader itself but their own design.

Might something like a Leatherman Crater (http://www.amazon.com/Leatherman-Crater-c33Bx-Straight-Serrated/dp/B001EYU4KW/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1448653581&sr=8-19&keywords=leatherman+crater) appeal? I picked one up, they're solid knives; while the interchangeable bit set are inferior screwdrivers, they're still handy. Lots of guys saw mine and ran out and got one.
(There are versions with a standard screwdriver, or no screwdriver. And, of course, some vendors on Amazon will laser-engrave your knife.)

leathermans have gotten much better. I had one of the earlier ones and it could be really rough on your hands.

I think I've got it figured out. I'm going to get him an ESEE Izula with a raven concealment pocket moduloader and if necessary an aftermarket sheath from Dark Star Gear.

The ESEE Izula would be great but you're looking for a folder. Previous Kershaw/Emerson suggestions are good ones. I'd also take a look at Kershaw's Ken Onion series. The Leek in particular but they're all great little knives. Aesthetically appealing IMO and the assisted opening mechanism works very well.

I gave him his choice on several options both folding and fixed. I'm just waiting on a reply. Thanks everybody for all of your suggestions and advice.

I bought a Sypderco Centofante 3 a while back, almost on a lark. I love it. Super slim, quite lightweight, does not look tactical (i.e., scary to casual observers), and it goes for $65 or less. Sharpest freakin' blade I've ever handled right out of the box, and the edge holds a long time. VG10 steel.

I've carried a Kershaw Cryo II
http://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-1556BW-Folding-Blackwash-SpeedSafe/dp/B00I04OHQ6/ref=pd_sim_200_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=3137JqJCMAL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=1A127RC9GSAVY11EEYAF

For about two years now and use it as my EDC. It's an assisted, opens quickly, and the liner lock is very secure. I received it as a gift from my daughter, and to be honest this knife works awesome and is built like a tank. Holds a great edge, easily sharpened.

Im an electrician and I carried a red handled one with a different blade set up for years. The one you posted is gorgeous. Is that finish durable?

I know you've already found the knife you want, but for what you describe this is what I carry:

My choice as well, great lock up- Hinderer design. Boker Kalashnikov is on sale at BladeHQ for 37.00, it's a solid knife that won't sting to destroy / misplace.

With locking folder designs, for the money, it's very hard to beat the Spyderco Manix. US made in Colorado with good steel, good cutting edge, and awesome lock design.

The Delica and Endura are both great choices also but for a US made knife of higher quality steel and a better lock, the Manix is on a playing field of it's own, IMO.

I often carry one of those as well.

Currently listed on Amazon for $11.82 (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0016KHW2W).

ETA: The only problem I have with it is that I tend to carry it clipped to my back pocket and the metal the clip is stamped from has a fairly sharp edge that wants to F-up upholstery when I sit down. I took a file and some sandpaper to it to soften the edge a bit.
