Everyone has a set (or multiple sets) they've owned for years and years. Some are shit kickers, some look better with age, and some feel like a part of you. I like purpose-built gear but sometimes boots can check most of my boxes. What do you guys prefer?

My last two pairs have been ariats and they suck. I wanna try some double H's or tony lomas next.

If your talking about "tactical" boots I has no idea.

Nah, just boots in general. I've had a pair of Dr. Martens that have lasted 15 years (still look good) and a pair of Merrell's that lasted 10 years but now need a fire bath.

Merrel Moabs...I have never worn anything more comfortable....and I'm on my feet 12 hours a day. My hospital does not allow me to wear them per the dress code, but I work nights and have considered exercising a little civil disobedience...

Total metal horns to the Viberg.

I have two pairs, one steel toe, one not. LOVE them.

But I have to admit that most days I slip on a pair of Ariat Heritage Roughriders.

I've been digging my Chippewa Apaches for the last couple years... They look good, and have served well as a pretty hard-use boot.

Is it just me or are most of these boots listed here meant for hipsters?

All I've done is google image search these names..

Nice, those have seen some miles.

My dad bought a pair of Vibergs the year before I was born.

He still wears them.

Not a boot connoisseur but they hold up well and are comfortable. I wear them every day I work.

The majority of the time its Hathorn Smoke Jumpers. Had worn Red Wing loggers, but the last several pair didnt last long, like less than a year for 2 pairs. The Hathorns are far better quality. Have one rebuild on them so far. If I get anything else it would be Whites.

Wear Sorrel pacs in cold weather, and sometimes some lightly insulated Danners. The danners arent close to the comfort of the Hathorns.

Redwings. They aren't lightweight, they aren't tactical, but they last.

ML Leddy in Midland Texas. Custom made almost 40 years ago, when they hand-carved a wooden model of my feet. Sharkskin lowers, elephant ear uppers.

I think they have been resoled 6 times, and have been reheeled 8 or 9 times. They have outlasted several beloved horses, and more cattle than I want to think about.

They are quite comfy.

After wearing boots for a job, I prefer trail shows/hiking shoes. Right now, most of the time, I have saloman xa3d ultra 2s. The insoles wore out quickly but no big deal, 15 bucks later and I had fully comfortable/functional shoes again.

I have a pair of Nick's Hotshots I wear for work and I believe they will be around long after I'm gone. In the time it took to break these boots in, I would have worn out other lesser boots. I don't think I'll ever buy a different brand of work boots.

No Whites, quality has dropped and Nicks can't keep up. The word is Wesco.

Up here Wesco is sometimes referred to as "the American version of Viberg". That's pretty high praise.

Lucchese for the office, Doc Martin steel toes for offshore walking on steel grating, Twisted X leather soles for everyday, Orvis/Gokey for general outdoors, and live in a pair of Muck boots during hunting season. You can never have too many boots!

A pair of Justin ropers just like those when ankle support is not critical, but a pair of Carolina loggers for workwear boots 90% of the time. My first pair of Carolina's were US made [old] and lasted close to 10 years.

I have been wearing boots from The Stewart Boot Company in South Tucson, Arizona for a very long time. My first pair I bought in 1990, roughout horse lower and standard horse tube, still have them 7 soles later. Second pair I bought, Horse lower, Elk tube I've had for 17 years. 5 soles on them.

Yes, I still have a set like that. Got them resoled in Pohang with layer of live rubber, then the Vibram. Definitely worth it on a long hump.

I still have a set of jungle boots from NTA, too. Chuck and I were talking about them when he was here last month. Dogtags woven in the paracord laces.

Takes me back.

Oh? I hadn't heard about that (admittedly I don't follow the news on the boot industry much). Last I heard Whites was being acquired by some big shot company. Is there a link you could post regarding the quality of Whites? I was saving up to buy a pair of horsehide Whites (http://bakershoe.com/product/horse-hide-semi-dress-whites), but if the quality isn't there, I'll take my money elsewhere.

EDIT:

Owned a pair of Danner 200g insulated Rainforest boots. Worked well (2 seasons doing trail work in Alaska, then in Montana/Wyoming) but not worth the money, IMO.

4301I am no expert with the boots but in the circles I spend time in, folks used to all run Whites boots and moved to Nicks or mass produced synthetic boots (another story). I think it runs something like a large company bought them, moved them, and changed some processes (maybe making them better by automation?). There were a bunch more issues and returns, more quickly wearing out. This is for hard use logging type boots, dress shoes it might be just fine.

I got measured at the Wesco factory and bought some custom boots from them. Do some research and you might find different answers or a more complete story.

I live within 5 miles of both White's and Nick's so I might be biased, but both outfits are still turning out great boots, IMHO. Nothing against Wesco or Danner either; Oregon workers have to earn a living too.

Wildland firefighting? I ask because that's the type of stuff I'm hoping to do next season (that or USFS/NPS trail work type stuff).
