This has probably been covered but can you all recommend a decent holster and mag pouch for IDPA comp. Shooting a Glock 17 Gen 4.

Thanks, Jay

Comp-Tac International and their belt pouch is a solid start that will likely be gear you keep.

Yep.

FWIW, for most major IDPA matches that track such things, 30% of shooters use Comp-Tac, 30% of shooters use Blade-Tech, and all the other makers in the world fight over the other 40%. I don't think it much matters the difference between Comp-Tac & Blade-Tech other than maybe attachment method or emulating a personal hero.

On that note, Vogel uses Safariland (because he's paid to) so I copied him, and use the Safariland equivalent of the above holsters which is the 5198, (http://www.safariland.com/paddle/model-5198-open-top-concealment-paddle-belt-loop-holster-with-detent-30575.html) or 5189, or whatever. I use the paddle version for IDPA and the belt-loop version for USPSA (because the USPSA holster stays attached to the belt). The Safariland holsters are a less-expensive alternative, if that's a concern for you.

What do you currently carry the pistol in, and how good are you (just starting out, experienced USPSA A-class competitor, etc.)?

If the answer to the second question is < really good, then I'd probably run what you wear daily, unless that's AIWB. If you normally carry appendix, I'd run whatever you wear when you wear open-front concealment.

Just starting out. Its for my teenage son, he is just getting started in the sport. I'm just the bank at this point.

I started IDPA with an OWB copy of a Raven holster I had in a box. I later added a Comptac double mag pouch. I decided recently to start shooting a 17 and it wouldn't fit the holster I had. I've been using a George AIWB holster I already had moved to 3 o'clock. I use a button down shirt for my concealment garment.

I know I'm not going to win any matches although I have become fairly competitive. I just find it fun to use stuff that could actually be carried concealed. It's a lot cheaper to use stuff I already have too.

For someone just starting out, Blade Tech's IDPA comp pack (http://shop.blade-tech.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_130&products_id=6846#.Vjped9KrTmU) might not be a bad way to go.

Ok we decided on the blade tech. Seems to be the popular choice.
