The Training Priority article is excellent! No match for Mr. Givens explaining this in person but a great read.
I keep getting a 404 error.

Has anyone tried The 3M Test yet?
I plan to run it this weekend.

Was hoping to run it sometime. Will need to ask if I can (half) sidestep at the NRA range...

Have run it a number of times both in class with Tom or at the range. I also use it when teaching as a test to see where the students are at.

I had to google the 3M drill. I've read this thing twice, have I missed the target distance or is it not on there? I'm assuming it's pretty far away with the time limit.

Edit: you have to scroll all the way down and then there is the 3M drill... Whoops

Soooooooooooo... I missed where somebody linked the corrected article, I finally clicked it and lo and behold, there is the drill. So please disregard what I posted earlier. I never claimed to be the smartest..

I didn't notice until I reread it. Tom is listing a 5 yard distance in the newsletter. I learned it from him and have always used 7 yards.

Good stuff, as always.
Thanks for the mention Tom, I greatly appreciate it.

This is a great line for all those who quote the close up, 2 shots mantra when discussing skills and equipment.
You know, when I had to hit that guy all the way
across the street, it never occurred to me that I was
a statistical exception. I just had to deal with it."
The analyses in the tactics article are a must read, IMHO.

I love the 3M, and have been doing it to start most range sessions since taking Tom's class.

He has excellent taste in website recommendations. ;)
We shot that drill today in Tom's Instructor course. Last drill of the class. We shot it 3 times. I dicked it up the first two but shot it correct and clean on the last one. Definitely gonna add that one to my list of drills to use in classes and practice.

But what about the question "why do no gun signs persist"?

The last time I shot it was in May in Tom's "Intensive Pistol Skills " class in Franklin Tn. I ran it clean in 6.5 seconds....which I think is about a 207 in the comstock scoring. Some days are just better than others. I also shot a clean Casino drill in 13.75 in that same class. I had a pretty good day.
As someone else mentioned, we used to do this drill like Farnam does from 7 yards..... but maybe it is 5 now?
He also used to do the 3M along with another part which was 2 rounds loaded, 2 spare mags on your belt with 2 rounds each. At the buzzer you step, draw, shoot to slidelock, step and reload, shoot to slidelock, step and reload and shoot to slidelock. IIRC the par times were 15 seconds on each drill.

Oh and just in case anyone was wondering...In that Franklin TN class Tom demo'd the 3M in 8 seconds without breaking a sweat...and that was still just a few months after his elbow surgery.....
