Has anyone had an issues using the MGW 307 on the front sight of 226 length guns? The tool only pushes against about 1/2 of the front sight blade. It makes full contact with front sight on 239/228/9 size guns but not the 226, and I'm assuming 220. I've finally getting around to sticking some HDs on a 226 and noticed this. Like I said, no issues putting them on a 239 and 228. Seems a bit strange pushing again 1/2 the front sight and was wondering if there were any issues about torquing/twisting in the dovetail.

Thanks

Ken

I have and it's a concern if you're not careful. It's a problem with fibers in particular, because they're more susceptible to bending, but it can happen with normal sights too, especially if they're at all oversized and aren't fit properly. One way to help is to shim between the top of the dovetail and the tool on the side you're pushing on (I use a small plastic or brass wedge) such that it doesn't have as much space to create leverage, if that makes sense.

FWIW, I suspect this is similar to what happened to some of the Legion pistols coming from the factory with crooked front sights.

I think Jody broke a front HD with this tool on his 229.

I have the MGW Pro tool. Recently used it to install HD sights on a USP and P2000, without issues. Going to do a Sig tonight. The Pro tool seems really good.

Yup, it's a front sight killer if you're a Neanderthal like me.
I switched over to aluminum or brass punches for installing Sig front sights and place them against the dovetail not the sight blade.

Thanks guys, appreciate the info. The wedge sounds like a great idea. I'm generally pretty careful about starting sights straight and making sure they fit so hopefully it won't be a problem. The old-school SIG tool allowed a full fit on the front, but I didnt noticed the new doesn't until now.

My eyes have gotten to the point that anything other than a fiber or HD is worthless so I'm changing sight on all my serious pistols.

HDs went on the 226 fine. The front did require some fitting but once I got it started good and straight, in went in without torquing or twisting. The HD front is wide enough that I couldn't do the shim thing (unless I misunderstood how), but I could see that working well with a narrow front.

I was particularly carful not to Jody it too quickly. :D

Thanks again.

Just installed Ameriglo Spartan tactical sights on my number two P239, using the MGW Pro tool. They went right on.

Feeling emboldened, and in consultation with Taadski, I pulled the slide stop on both pistols, and took a dremel to them, reducing their profile significantly.

Pennies make pretty good shims on the 226, they may need a little filing to fit (not that I would ever deface currency or anything like that)

This is how I shim and haven't ever busted a front sight using shims like this.

Where is G, and what have you done with him?

Thanks for the pic. That looks like a different tool than the 307. Does it fully capture a front sight blade on a 226 size pistol?

I shot that gorgeous, classic folded slide, 220R today. Awesome shooter! Looks like 6/8 dimension sights should regulate perfectly.

I like them all, but the 239 and 220 are my favorite two Sigs to pure shoot.

Why is that?

Why is that?

Single stack Sig pistols just feel good to shoot, especially with Hogue G10 chain link grips which are thin, but easy to hang onto. The 239 carries like a small pistol, but shoots like a big one.

Front to back? Not quite, about a third is sticking out on the front.
