Thanks for the post. The better we understand the opposition/enemy, the better we understand how to counter their arguments. This article admits it is flawed, and yet makes a case against concealed carry anyway. Notice they fail to argue against a persons' right to self-defense...because there is no good argument against it. They take the flawed statistics approach, which provides them the ability to draw their own conclusions.

It is a matter of public record The chairman and publisher of the New York Times, Arthur Ochs Sultzberger jr, has a rare as hens teeth New York City concealed carry permit. Don't you just love liberal hypocrisy?

If leftists didn't have double standards they wouldn't have any standards at all.

They can blame the Ferguson effect or whatever other tripe intellectual-esque nonesense raises their brow.

So there were 763 people killed by ccw holders within 9 years?

This numbers include 223 suicides, which leaves 543 cases. Even if you assume, that all of this cases where homicides (while I'm pretty sure they include a high number of accidents as well) this means about 60 people are killed by ccw holders per year.

As far as I know there are about 13.000 homicides a year in the USA. This means about 0.46% of all homicide victims are killed by ccw holders.

Maybe the NYT should care about the other 99.54% first...

That article is so full of fail.

It continues to amaze me how a doctor can start vomiting out papers to the point where they will catch on and become accepted dogma.

He fits in very well with the New York Times, then. It specializes in that.

You give them more credit for "caring" than I would.....

I don't believe they give a rat's ass for any of them....they're just being good liberals and lecturing the unwashed "bitter clingers."

Interesting how all the so called "research" conducted by those guys is from the same sources...Violence Policy Center, Brady Campaign to prevent gun violence, Mayors Against Illegal Guns et al...

interesting that...

Linky?

He and his Dad have both had NYC carry permits for decades, Jr's going back at least to the 1980's.

There are many sources but here is a recent one: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2011/02/robert-farago/gun-toting-ny-talk-show-host-%E2%80%9Ci-don%E2%80%99t-believe-people-should-be-allowed-to-have-guns-in-america/

Funny that the Times chose to highlight conservative pistol-packers Roger Ailes (Fox News Prez), Sean Hannity (right wing chin wagger), without naming one important left-leaning CCW permit holder: New York Times publisher Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, Jr. But we do get a great gun story . .

It is also mentioned on page 16 of John Lott's book "More Guns, Less Crime"

I love making fun of him (http://booksbikesboomsticks.blogspot.com/search?q=wintemute), even though it's about as challenging as hunting dairy cattle with a scoped rifle.

Well working on high-percentage targets is a good way to keep the rudimentary fundamentals sharp without having to worry too much about missing the mark.
