Yes, it's the TLG variant and the trigger is incredible. It has right around 10k through it.

Here's another. I changed it to V1 LEM recently. It's pretty much a safe queen because I don't shoot 45 acp very often. I picked it up used with an extra threaded barrel simply because it makes me happy.

Oh, I like that! What did you use (paint & brush), and how did you cover up the tritium so you didn't get orange on it?

Luke
12-27-2015, 01:42 PM
Step 1. Place tape butted up to front sight bottom.
Step 2. Pour rubbing alcohol all over front my of slide.
Step 3. Use white paint pen for base coat, let dry
Step 4. First coat of orange.
Step 5. Another coat of orange.

I used model paint bought from a hobby store, I also bought these very tiny brushes. I will upload a picture of those when I get home. The tritium is concaved into the front sight on these so it made it easy. These are heinie's.

For the longest time, I thought my friend had a .45 Ti-Rant, didn't realize it was a 9mm. OEM threaded barrel in the black. Got one more sitting NIW for the RAL8000 eventually. Ran just fine with Remington UMC 115 gr. (26 rounds) and Winchester W Train 147 gr. (50 rounds).

Going from memory here, the trigger return spring is the first to replace, around 7-8k trigger pulls. I have not kept a good record of dry fire and live fire over the past year with this P30, and I had a few of the springs around already. It wouldn't have been a big deal to shoot this one until it broke, since it's my dry fire and range trainer, but what the heck.

I changed out the firing pin block spring and firing pin spring, since I purchased the P30 used a while back and never checked them out. I believe the originals still had life in them since they weren't in pieces. I have seen firing pin springs break in half after about 5k rounds, but still function.

I didn't replace the recoil spring, since I don't think this P30 has anywhere near 25k through it, and that's about the replacement timing for that one.

I left the flat spring, hammer spring, and detent spring alone after inspection (I didn't have any spares on hand anyway), but also replaced the elbow spring and extractor springs.

Ultimately, I felt like dissecting it and cleaning it up early on a Saturday morning, but it's not something I will do again for a long while :)

I actually wore that under a polo shirt for my entire trip to California at the beginning of May. It is a new design for Tap Rack I requested so I test ran it. I wear it just ahead of the hips above the pants pockets with both the holster and mag pouch and it works well for me. It will also take my P30L as well. It is a workable concealed OWB rig and works equally well on the range. I am mostly using a Safariland #27 and double mag pouch for the P30SK. I ll be in Havasu and SoCal all through July, so it should get a lot of carry in both.

Very late seeing this - but - I get the same results using neon orange duct tape from Wal-Mart. Before I apply the tape, I cut a small square, make a hole in it, using either a very small drill bit or a tiny finishing nail. The excess/overlap of tape is trimmed with a single edge razor blade. No worries with paint on the tritium and it ignores cleaners. I figure the single $2.99 roll of tape should cover me until my shooting days are done.

Kind of a weird situation. My arthritis has gotten to the point that my ring finger is doing som weird stuff and I have lost some control over it to the point it sort of wants to curl into a claw when I try to put any conscious input into manipulating my hands. I think it curling under the gun is actually helping. I shoot the gun better with that finger curled under than with VP9 mags in it and the finger has input in my grip. This paying for my body abuse in my youth at age 50 sucks. That combined with a genetic predisposition is sucking even worse. Both my grandmother and my dad had their index fingers curl up inward. My dad cannot pull a trigger on a handgun these days, yet is in fantastic physical shape and is a scratch golfer at 77.

You're finding that rig (carrying the K "short grip") better overall for you than IWB holsters?

I have pretty much finalized on the USPc, in an IWB 3:00 o'clock kydex with a strong 25 degree forward cant. Been carrying the HK45C in the same type of holster for years; but as I'm getting older, the USPc in 9mm just seems to be doing better for me. Its almost an inch shorter in the slide/barrel, which means its holster doesn't reach down my side quite as far, which means less pinching of the sciatic nerve, etc.

I do have a couple of good, old, leather OWB holsters; but I've been using the IWB kydex for so long now… set up on the range, remove the carry piece and magazine, re-holster the identical (and dirty) practice piece and magazines, and blast away.

True, but that's more of a shirt issue and a "weight problem".

Not really, which is why I am using the #27 a lot. With that said, it is workable. A big issue I was having with the VP 9 is since I got the Raptor and its seats, I have had to go to a fanny pack for a service size gun. The short grip on the SK allows me to run IWB again, or OWB with the Tap Rack holster. What the TAP Rack rig does is allow me good performance out of a smaller gun on various drills we run. I have been shooting the SK at every range session since I bought it.

I gave the "Snubby Lifestyle" a try, and I am just not there yet in life. I am now trying the "Sub-Compact Lifestyle" a shot and it is working well and may end up being permanent. I tried it a couple times as a cop and in retirement and was not quite ready for it, I am now.

The extension is a floor plate that adds a finger groove but does not add capacity. The extension seems to change the geometry. I think it adds better control because when gripped it helps cant muzzle downward. I wasn't concerned about original magazines. Though I did experience blood blisters on strong hand pinky from under wrapping and recoil during high round range sessions. Hope pictures are helpful.83518352

True enough. I would actually run it as is in PCC for giggles while waiting on the form 1, but it is precluded because of the lack of shoulder stock. As it is, it probably won't be shot much until form 1 clears. I can say they are awesome though. Even without a stock.

It would be interesting to see a shot comparing the size of the Mk23 against the MP-7 with the stock collapsed.

It may be fun at the range, but like the P90, a .22 Mag equivalent SMG would not be my first choice for use on people trying to kill me.

Unsupressed, the MP7 is only slightly longer and taller, though I didn't think to stage a photo of them side by side.

I tend to agree regarding terminal effectiveness of the MP7. It is fun at the range, but it is an extremely niche weapon. I would consider it a half-magazine weapon, i.e. to sufficiently ventilate an opponent, I would want to devote half of a magazine to them. I would actually prefer an MP5K-N to the MP7 in every way for a compact PDW style weapon unless I had a specific need to penetrate armor.

I have been really fighting the urge lately to get back into HKs since my agency is and more than likely always will be Glocked up.

However the other night I sat down in the break room to eat and this menu was on the table in front of me. I think it's a sign...

Yes, that definitely looks like it would make a big difference. The P2000SK's one "hump" in the front strap totally messes up the feeling for me; the P30SK is certainly a lot more refined.

Haven't had a chance to shoot it. I like the texture on the grip, the LEM trigger is good, safety is meh, don't care for the mag release, the gun is kinda large for only holding 13 rounds. Overall I think that if I had held one before I might not have bought it but I mainly just bought it because I am somewhat of a collector/accumulator and I like having at least one representative of each manufacturer (the good ones anyway) and the USP is what I think of when I think of H&K. Now that I have it I'll probably end up keeping it, at least for the time being. I figured for as cheap as they were it was worth a shot to get one and try it out.

Yeah, I'm subscribed to a bunch of different email newsletters and stuff so I hear about this stuff as they list it. Classic firearms, J&G sales, and AIM surplus are all good ones to keep tabs on. There's probably others that I'm forgetting or just don't know about.

Added an HKParts MicroComp. Definitely tames the perceived recoil a bit, haven't figured out how much actual performance gain there's been (ran it through a Steel Challenge match the other day, and shaved about 7.5 seconds off my last best time, but then again, I've shaved time off every time I've shot a match).

Approx. 4328 rounds through this black one with an RMR since 2015-JAN, approx. 7650 rounds through my RAL8000 one since 2015-AUG. Haven't had any noticeable issues that couldn't be resolved with a new battery.

Well, it's faster than the paddle, so there's that. I still need to have someone machine an extendo button for me.

Talionis
05-04-2017, 09:20 PM
You must have man-sized hands and fingers or I'm an idiot and don't know how to use that button. With my dainty little hands I can't get anywhere near pushing that button with my right hand without taking it completely of the grip.

You certainly know more about these things than I do, what the heck am I doing wrong?

I'll be the first to say it's not ideal as-is. However, I've adapted how I shoot MP5's so my firing hand thumb is not wrapped around the pistol grip, but on the same side of the gun as my trigger finger. Example here: 16273 That allows me to quickly shift my whole hand forward enough to hit the mag release with my trigger finger pretty quickly. It's a software solution to a hardware problem, but it works well enough I haven't had a ton of motivation to get someone to machine my mag release extension design.

I actually realized that I didn't have to wrap my thumb around the grip on every rifle when I started learning a little about long range shooting. There are tradeoffs for close-in work, so I don't do it all the time, but it is a useful tool to have available.

Tom, I'll be in touch soon.

When it comes down to it I'm a P30 guy (LEM triggers on everything for me) It came down to anatomy and the P30L with an "s" slide release being installed and the large grip panel inserts for me to get the kind of master grip I was looking for. I'm a dedicated "1 gun for everything" so my range gun, carry gun and nightstand gun are all the P30L LEM, I'm pretty confident with the weapon system.

I'm really green with suppressors and so far I don't prefer one host of the other, they seem just as loud as each other and no other characteristic differences stand out. I think the USP9c looks a little neater I suppose, I don't know it's a toss up.

Really digging my P30L. Favorite HK. I like my standard slide P30s as well but I prefer the “L” length slide. FWIW the P30L is basically the same size as a P226/92 Centurion/PX4 full size/G17, whereas the P30 is basically the same size as a P229.

Gave up on the Colt?

Nah. No money for 45. I have 9mm ammo. 9mm is cheaper. Shooting this for a little while.

Too broke for 45 for a while. I have considered selling to pay off debt. But really don’t want to.

Just looking at some of the other pictures of P2000sk's in this thread and I noticed that the P2000 trapezoid logo on the grip of my P2000sk is different than the others. Mine says "P2000" on the top and "HK" with a small "JS" in a circle on the bottom. Other's I see have a "P" on top and "2000" on the bottom. Does anyone know the story here why the logo design changed and what the "JS" means?

Courtesy of Big Bore over on HKpro.

For a short period of time HK civilian sales were under the hunting and sporting division and the HKs that came out during this time had that JS marking. Other than the marking itself it is meaningless to the shooter. The pistols are exactly the same and there is no difference between one with the JS marking and one without.

Irelander
10-25-2018, 08:09 AM
Thanks for that. I see now that under the "Heckler and Koch" at the top of the grip, just under the slide, it says "Jagd- und Sportwaffen Gmbh" which apparently means Hunt-and Sporting Weapons. Guess thats where they get the JS.

I shot mine last Tuesday, and even with the short slide release, I somehow managed to ride the release AND drop the fucking mag SIMULTANEOUSLY!!

Ditto on the 90's thing, actually Rainbow Six cover art is just a regular ole' USP 40...

copied from HKPro... https://www.hkpro.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48:the-rainbow-six-usp&catid=6:the-pistols&Itemid=5

"THE RAINBOW SIX USP

This is the photograph that has caused some discussion on the HK List as to what kind of HK pistol it is. It is a promotional photograph from HK, that was then used by Red Storm Entertainment as the catchy cover photo for the excellent computer game Rainbow Six. (A must have for HK enthusiasts by the way.) The gun is a garden variety HK USP40.
This series of photographs, this picture and one with the gun being held at low ready were sketched by the renowned SWAT artist Dick Kramer for HK International Training Division artwork in the last few years. The low ready is offered for sale by Kramer Studios on Dickkramer.com.

Who is that masked man?? HKPRO recently learned that the man behind the mask is in fact, John T. Meyer, Jr., former Vice President of Sales and Training at Heckler & Koch USA. The photo was taken in 1992, in preparation for the introduction of the USP to the American market which followed in 1993."

Needless to say I had to have a USP 40 in my life, Rainbow Six is and will always be the best game of the 90's. Sorry to say though that I was terrible at playing it, but I was pretty young when I had it.

They actually had the work done in 2 days, but UPS didn’t pick it up until Monday. They text you on starting the work and again when it is finished. Appears to be first class work. They also installed the Heine suppressor height sights and HK slot fillers. Highly recommended.

Technically a drug dealer’s 3K.

One of our interdiction units stopped a dude with a small load of dope. This rifle was laying in the trunk in the case and all. He purchased it (legally at a gun shop) four hours before being pulled over. The receipt was even laying on top of the case. The rifle was seized as a drug proceed asset and was later forfeited to us.

I had just converted it from v7 to v1, full detail strip of slide and frame. Zero dryfire or live in 10 days.

Things like this just provide some confirmation bias. Being able to completely disassemble a gun, drop in a barrel that hasn't been used in the gun in several thousand rounds, add a suppressor, and hit a can at 50 yards in one shot. Acceptable for a plastic gun.

I just as easily could have missed, in which case it would have been an entry in a spreadsheet, but I'll take it.

New addition to the stable. I'm still very much a VP9 fan (currently have five of them), but switching to AIWB a few months ago has me reconsidering the value of the added safety margin of a hammer-fired gun. I believe striker-fired guns can be carried safely appendix. I think many would agree, though, that whether carrying appendix or behind-the-hip IWB, being able to ride the hammer while holstering is a nice insurance policy.

Took her out for a first practice session two weeks ago and put a little over 400 rounds downrange. One failure to fire (with a good primer strike, and the round failed to fire after being loaded a second time in the same gun, so I attribute that to the ammo, not the gun). I know shooting 124gr NATO has been previously recommended for the P30 during break-in; not having any of that on hand, I went with AE 147gr. The newer production stuff is fairly stout compared to the relatively soft-shooting rounds that were being produced a couple years ago, and I didn't have any cycling issues.

I have to say that the light LEM is very serviceable out of the box. I will still end up sending this off to GrayGuns or LWG for some action cleanup, but that's just me being spoiled by the excellent GG/LWG trigger work on my VP9s. My only major gripe about the P30L is that with how I grip the pistol, the hammer smacks the web of my hand, which was rather unpleasant and left me bleeding by the end of the range day. The VP9 seems to have a slightly more pronounced beavertail and is forgiving of a hastily-established grip, whereas the P30L required more deliberate hand placement to avoid getting too high on the backstrap.

Changed my P2000SK magazine release to the extended release and my backstrap to the large size. The extended mag release is a great upgrade. I was also pleasantly surprised by the large backstrap. Did not think I would like it but it forces a nice high grip on the gun and seems to point better for me.

For what it is, it fills a niche. When I received it, the PTD loops were attached, and I swapped out to the DCC clips. I will be swapping back.

I like that it can be RH or LH, indexes of the light, and has adjustability built in. It opens up options for carry, with a variety of pistols. Not perfect, but if you want to carry a light, this makes it dang easy.
