Just bought a Hero 4 Black to take with me on the road. Any pointers, tips or general thoughts would be appreciated.

I'd recommend 2 extra batteries and the dual charger. If you use the remote or the phone app to control it the battery will run out of juice quicker.
If you plan on shooting video in 4K you'll need a powerful computer to edit with. I'd also recommend doing short videos of stuff that doesn't matter to get the hang of it before taking videos of stuff you care about. That's about all I know as I've only had mine a short time. (I have the same model)

The Internet is saying you can load GoPro video into Coach's Eye. That might be worth experimenting with.

Think about where the sun is. The 4 black is much better than the older models, but you will get lens flares and contrast issues. But the overall quality is great much greater.

I use the headband mount, and it comes out pretty good. I typically preview it with my smart phone to verify the angle and then use the buttons to actually control it. The 4 has a new mode if you double press the shutter button it will turn on, and start recording within a few seconds.

I also suggest buying a Bluray drive to archive the footage.

I have a bunch of videos on my Youtube channel.

PPGMD, not to side track, but what is your YouTube page?

Batteries and chargers for days. When I shoot (camera shoot not gun shoot) I'd have an extra battery in my go bag that I kept charged at all times.

I have other tips too, but a lot of those depend on what you want to use the camera for. Are you thinking for classes to provide after action footage for analysis, or sizzle reel stuff, or do you just want to jump out of airplanes wearing it?

I received one for Fathers Day this year and I can't add much technical advice better than these guys; I just know some basics.

But the most profound question my GoPro raised for me was: "Am I now wasting more ammo? Or am I practicing things I probably should have been practicing before?" ;)

I want to put it on a stick and shove that into a ground fight over a sim gun.

Anybody use a GoPro?

Only when I am rappelling down the side of a building in a dress. :)

Otherwise, I run a Midland XTC 400 'cause I am cheap.

It will be interesting to see how the camera changes behavior. Seems like the accident rate for bush planes flying and filming is way worse than the rate for those just flying.

My guess is a lot of evolution participants won't have any idea it's even there. I can promise it'll be the last thing they're thinking about as things go sideways. :D

SN,

The mounting accessories I use most are:

-An elastic headmount or helmet mount depending on the activity.

-a Joby "Gorilla-pod" Mount. This allows for basic tripod use but, because of the flexible legs, can be wrapped around poles, attached to fences or walls, etc, etc… Super versatile and handy, in particular when used with the a remote.

Joby also makes an action grip with a pole extension. It's compatible with threaded broom handle and other extension poles. I've not tried one but it would appear it would work for your application. The company is GTG in my limited experience.

Like taadski noted they won't notice. I've had other people do this before for me. I want to set it up so I can hand it to someone so I can coach.

Need to find a way to mount the go-pro inside the face cavity of a FIST helmet. That could be fascinating.

SN, I definitely recommend the Joby action jib kit: http://joby.com/action-jib-kit, that way you can uh...insert (phrasing) the camera wherever you like in the action. The nice thing about GoPros is that they're pretty tough, so a direct hit from a sim round won't take it out either. I like to carry a couple of spare memory cards as well, because 8 gigs goes by pretty quick when you're having fun.

It sounds like you're going to use the camera for more "post fight analysis/film room" stuff; which is totally awesome. I've found from the same use that 1st person view isn't super helpful, but I'm also breaking down stage footage and not fight footage. So your miles may vary.

That's pretty much exactly what I want to do with it Caleb.
