After Suppressor-A-Palooza 1, Punkey71 got the great idea to really put the rimfire suppressors to the test. I figured I'd bring a few Dead Air rifle models as well. We setup the test equipment per Mil-std: 1.6m high and sound meter 1m to the left of the muzzle.

The take-away here is don't just look at the db numbers, they can be deceiving. Things to consider are size (length and weight), materials used in construction, customer service and tone. When comparing the rifle suppressors, even though the Sandman-L and M4SD-II were quieter it was remarked by everyone present that the Sandman-S sounded better. The Sandman-S had a more pleasant, deeper comfortable tone.

With the rimfire suppressors, I could not hear a difference in sound level between the different models. However, again tone was a key factor. None were offensive but the Mask had a more mellow, deeper tone than the rest. The 22L-1 had a very comfortable smooth sound even though it metered higher.
