Some of my Zoom snap caps are looking kind of rough.

The "primer" is pretty bashed up at this point. The case rim and case mouth are getting pretty chewed up. They're even getting jammed up in the chamber of my CZ (fine in the Glock and Beretta). Are the Zoom snap caps still the best out there is there a better option? Rogers Tap Racks maybe, http://www.holsterops.com/trt?

They are consumables. I use them until the rim disintegrates, then toss it and grab a new one from the packs I have in reserve.
Edit: Sorry, forgot to add that I haven't found any that are better, at least not in a colour that I am comfortable press checking and knowing 100% it's a snap cap.

Yeah, time for some new ones. I use the Zooms also....never tired any others.

I tried Triple K years ago, but I think the Zooms hold up better if my memory is correct.
I'd like to get some of these anodized neon yellow. These suckers blend in very good in the ground

Super Dave Harrington specifically lists ST Action Pro snap caps on his class gear list.

Can the ST Action Pros be used for dry-fire? I thought they had an empty primer pocket.

Correct on the empty primer pocket, Mr_White has mentioned filling it with Shoe Goo to provide some measure of cushioning. I use ST Action Pros when mixing dummys into live fire drills, or for slide lock reload dry fire practice. Otherwise, for higher volume dry fire I use A-Zooms or a LaserLyte cartridge.
The Rogers Tap Racks appear to be exclusively for the purpose of preventing the magazine follower from engaging the slide release without themselves being chambered.

It's my understanding you can dry fire modern centerfire firearms until the cows come home with ill effect.

Well, yes and no. Limited dry fire likely won't hurt anything. With SIGs, failure to use a snap cap will eventually break the Firing Pin Positioning Pin, which can be a Beoch to change even with the correct punches. On Glocks, there have been reported failures at the breach face. I've never personally seen the Glock thing, just pictures. I have personally broken two SIG FPPPs before I quit being lazy and started using quality snap caps.

Unless it's a CZ or beretta :)

haha uhoh something I should know about my CZ and dry firing? Already had a TRS break on me after a little over a month...
I was talking about the TRS
Thanks. Actually, a buddy got a Beretta as his first gun recently. Anything I should forewarn him about regarding dryfire?

I've been using the Tipton snap caps for a while. They seem to be holding up well. Not sure how they compare to the A-zooms.

There's nothing great on the market.
Personally I use .45s made on the press, with spent primers, no powder, and drilled holes through the casing. For the round in the chamber I'll use one of the red snap caps for easy identification. Since all the commercial ones weigh next to nothing I find them incredibly useless aside from the aforementioned chamber round or practicing jams.
You can trim a pencil eraser too, works well in the primer pocket.

Best Snap Cap of all !!!
Resized & de-primed case, seat bullet and fill primer pocket with Silicone sealer, level off with base of case and let set up. Will last for thousands of dry fires.
Works with any caliber, even rifles.
Great for Ball & Dummy drills as well.
If you want to keep it from extracting when you work the slide or bolt , file or grind the rim off to keep the extractor from grabbing the case.
I have cases that have been done both ways and use them as needed for what ever skill I am practicing.

Are snap caps necessary for rifle dry fire? Say a REM 700?

Couldn't tell you but considering how cheap they are to buy or make it's more of a why not?

Tiptons are what I use as well. They seem to be holding up, however, after a lengthy session my feed ramp will be coated in brass powder.

maybe not necessary but cheap insurance plus good for ball and dummy (the homemade ones) drills with one or two mixed in the magazine.
I have used them in a M1, M1A and a M14A for both ball and dummy drills and just dry firing

my A-zoom 12ga snap caps are literally shedding chunks off the rims. They are not used very often. I will be buying ST Action Pros instead
