Here is a shot of the latest almost finished AIWB. Todd and I have been working on this one for a little over a year. The maker is a full time holster maker, so some of the availability issues that plague our other AIWB's will hopefully be addressed. It will cost more than the Shaggy, but less than the Invictus. Sorry for the poor pic, it's a phone camera.

I find it to be roughly eleventy billion times more comfortable than strong-side carry. And I'm a chubby little man. I have driven, sat extensively, played with kids, cuddled with my GF, and taken naps wearing a full-size pistol AIWB.

Definitely not for everyone - I have tried it several times and have not found my sweet spot yet. I am going to try it with a longer slide gun and see if that doesn't keep the gun from digging in as bad.

Right now, I am work, leaning slightly forward. The G19 is pointed almost straight up and down and riding higher above the waist line than it would while I am walking/standing. The barrel is just about alongside the family jewels and pointing just about in between that area and the leg.

This is in a Shaggy.

That looks great! I love how high it rides and how well it tucks the grip into the body. I see a lot of "appendix" holsters that have the gun ride so low you can't hardly get a grip on it.

Any word on what guns this holster will likely be available for?

I don't get how in the hell you guys are able to comfortably sit down carrying like that???

It’s all about how high the gun rides and where it’s positioned along the belt line. If you look at all the purpose built AIWB holsters (CCC Looper, Shaggy, Garrity In-Victus, etc…) they all position the gun higher than most IWB holsters and have a straight drop. When I sit down, with my P30 in a Shaggy, I’ll admit I do have to adjust it’s position sometimes to get comfortable. It’s something you get used to.

I’ve wanted to try a leather AIWB holster for awhile now and will be looking forward to when this one is available.

SLG,

Is there a waiting list for this rig so we can get our name on it? I would love to have a Shaggy or In-Victus, but an ~ 1 year wait while I'm experimenting to see what works, doesn't seem like the smartest thing. Is it more like a Shaggy or an In-Victus in the way it rides?

I've been lurking for a bit, however all this discussion on AIWB holsters is finally going to bring me out from my corner.

I've recently obtained my carry permit, and the idea of a AIWB is very appealing to me. Out of all the positions that i've been able to put my glock 19 around my waste--the 2 o'clock position is by far the most discrete. Unfortunately, most AIWB holsters do not offer the "tuckable" option that i would need to be able to conceal my pistol at work (dress shirt/khaki's). Is there a reason why that option is unappealing to most AIWB users? Would it be possible to exchange the loops on this particular holster to make it tuckable?

Thanks for all the advice

Less bulk and leather? Shut up and take my money!

Jason F
08-26-2012, 10:46 PM
Count me in line to pick one of these up too as soon as they're available.

I ordered an Alessi Talon Plus a month ago, and I like everything about it - except that it mounts to your pants instead of your belt. Well, I've lost a bunch of weight recently (22lbs and counting- woot woot!), so most of my pants are running a bit large right now.

On top of that, I switched back to my Dale Fricke for a few days and I can tell a large difference in stability with the holster being attached to the belt instead of the pants and then "lashed down tight" to my waistline by the belt (not to mention it's more comfortable without having to use your belt as a freaking ratchet strap to stabilize your holster because it wants to sink below your beltline). Of course carrying a fullsize 1911 doesn't help because of the weight, but that's my choice. I just have to find a better holster solution and this appears to be a very viable choice.

C'mon guys, got any ETA on these bad boys?

barnaby
09-02-2012, 09:19 AM
It lacked a lot of the bulk currently being used in many AIWB holster designs to keep the pistol "tucked" in, while offering just as much "tuck" and concealability (at least on me). Very comfortable and very concealable.

John, please take my money.

Bingo,

For slim guys..the wedge sticks out.

I've been wearing a prototype for the past couple of days. This is for a 1911 and may not reflect the final design completely.

Concealment is probably better than any aiwb holster of any kind I've ever used. It somehow magically tucks both the magwell and the rear sight tight against the body.

Due to some subtle differences in the shape it took me a little while to get used to it from a comfort standpoint. Initially, it was a little uncomfortable when seated. But just like someone switching to aiwb for the first time, once I got past that point it has not bothered me at all. Admittedly, I've yet to do any long stretches of driving with it yet. Also FWIW, I know SLG has not had the same comfort issue, even initially, so there's a good chance that my body shape & size plays a big role in that... pardon the pun.

Given how much time and energy John has put into this thing -- we first started talking about it at SHOT 2011 -- I'm impressed at the perfectionist approach he's taken. Half a dozen times either SLG or I have told him that it was good enough, but John kept wanting to beat the last gremlins out of it before selling them to the public.

So....... CZ Shadow?

No plans for any CZ - I have only had one request (EVER) for a CZ gun, and I don't have any dummy guns for the CZ pistols.

yeah kinda figured that would be the case. Guess I'll have to be happy with ordering one for my G19. Thanks for answering the question dude.

I've got a final version on its way and will do the photo thing once it arrives.
