After AFHF last weekend two things became very apparent.

-When I grip the gun correctly, I get a foul chafing/blister/searing pain on my strong hand middle finger.

I solved that problem by breaking the edge where the trigger guard meets the grip and smoothing it down. Much more comfortable.

-The gun moves around alot in my hand. Tom noticed that I was adjusting my grip after almost every shot during a particular drill. I think a solution to that would be a little stippling.

I practiced on a backstrap last night. I got the hang of it quickly, and it feels good.

The question I have is where do I apply my newfound talent? The backstrap is obvious, but where else? Frontstrap? The sides of the grip? All over?

I trying to remember the conversation I had with a friend about either IDPA, or another shooting sport, that had certain rules about how much you could modify a pistol's frame before it was considered a "custom" gun.

If you're doing any shooting sports like that, I'd double check your rule book.

I get the same thing, or at least I did until I developed my shooters callus.

In USPSA Production, you're allowed to texture, stipple, or checker the grip area, but not any part of the trigger or trigger guard. I don't think that smoothing out the area you describe would be allowed.

Don't know about IDPA. I seem to recall something about grip tape being legal in SSP, but stippling puts you over in Enhanced...

There's a picture in the USPSA rule book of where you're allowed stippling and/or grip tape in production.

For IDPA, any permanent grip modification puts you in ESP. In SSP, you can use grip tape, and you can stipple any removable parts of the grip, like the backstrap of an M&P.
