The folder is a Brous (https://www.amazon.com/Brous-Blades-Dustin-Turpin-collaboration/dp/B00OMMO13O/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=brous+blades+carbon&qid=1610375677&sr=8-2) – the carbon fiber was so gorgeous in person I bought it on a whim. The fixed blade is an Attn2Detail “Persian EDC”.

ETA, looks like someone added a Brous affiliate link to my post (which is great) but did want to point out the model I have is the VR-71 (https://brousblades.com/collections/folders/products/vr-71?variant=14885581574).

High Noon Holsters Instinct-Lite. I changed the clip and wear it AIWB. It works great.

I had one from one of the "approved" makers here, but found it much less comfortable and ended up selling it.

I have a bit of a J-frame fetish, and may be developing a holster problem. But I am not worried, I can quit anytime I want to... :cool:

Gen 3 Glock 19 - had this one for at least 10 years. North of 25k rounds. Shot out the barrel and replaced with a KKM. Sent slide to PM for milling for an RMR and new Cerakote early last year. Stipple job by Jarvis Tactical some years ago, now out of business. Wish he was still around, his grip mod is perfect for my smedium hands. I need to give Boresight a try.
AMTAC Northman. I liked the idea of a fixed blade for carry but wasn't into the various belt offhand options. This one fits the bill of 100% utility with a just in case utility.
Streamlight of some sort. I love these lights because I misplace them all the time, and they are cheap. Also I pretty frequently clip it to my hat-bill for mundane, close up tasks. Man my eyes are getting bad.
Raven Eidolon G17 holster. I may have over 50 holsters by now, for my body shape this works best and I can still get sub 1.5s A zone hits at 7 yards in the lowest ride. Probably nothing spectacular for some of the studs on PF but it's my benchmark. Bladerigs with the excellent steel clip mod.

Old quark. I got it on Ebay a long time ago when they were discontinuing the line.

I love it and have never found a suitably good replacement. It's a perfect EDC light.

I carried the FourSevens Quark for like 7-8 years, agree, its a perfect EDC light. I also bought a few spares when they were on Ebay a few years ago. That light saved my ass a few times and never let me down.

Eagletac's D25LC2 MKII is now what I carry. Its essentially the Quark (same exact head tight = turbo; head loose = multi mode) but just a hairs breath wider body to fit an 18650 battery.

http://www.eagtac.com/html/d25lc2rcmkii/index.html

If you're looking for an upgrade or just a worthy spare light for the Quark, its a good option.

So, ad naseum with my minimalists posts I have finally found peak weight/comfort/utility in my carry. With a money clip I can carry this whole setup in board shorts which is pretty much all summer as I appendix the 5 banger.

I have way better things to do than to gear up with heavy crap in my town and I feel I am adequately armed, lighted, and knifed up to handle anything in my day to day. God bless those that do, not for me.

The new streamlite pocket mate is the real deal.

Thanks! I wear 6x reading glasses and have my face mere inches from the watch when I set the hands. It's the hardest part of the whole process.

BTW, with the 6x reading glasses, you have to have them on your face straight or they'll screw with your vision. One eye will be slightly blurry and the other clear.

I went small/minimal a couple years ago but the G19 has crept back in as the primary. I was getting pretty happy with a dotted 43 but the state of society changed my perception of comfortable.
The knife,light,wallet and key setup is years of trial and error to develop the perfect fit for me everyday. I subscribe to the “ smallest item that will do the job I need” train of thought and in todays world the 19 wins. However I do have a 26.5 at Jagerwerks being milled for a RMR so a happy medium maybe…?

Gun- Glock 19 Gen 5 RMR 06 type 2, FCD plate, Heinie Straight Eight MOS sights, Streamlight TLR-7a in a JMCK wingclaw 2.5-still waiting on a SCD
Knife- Chris Reeve carbon fiber Mnandi
Light- Peak Eiger ( custom w/ Nichis 219c 5700K emitter) w/ dark sucks Ti clip
Wallet-carbon fiber Ridge
Keys- Gerber shard and spare aaa for the light

Yeah, I'm still a big fan of the Apogee. It takes a little getting used to threading it through your pants' belt loops with it's rubbery texture, but it's not bad. I'd like to get a black one someday to go with darker outfits. Holsters and other things that clip to a belt seem a little more stable since they "stick" to the belt.

LOL thanks. It’s a zombie arm! It cracked me up when i saw it as my two idiot labs are always bringing me something, usually something disgusting! On one occasion one of my pups brought me a live kitten from my neighbors garage, gently carried in its mouth with the mother cat following behind to retrieve said kitten once my dog presented it to me.

How in the world do you conceal that large flashlight?

Conceal isn’t a word I would use to explain my carry of the Hound Dog. Its my trail walk light. I only use it for night/early morning trail walks so its mostly in my hand. If I’m running late and the suns up ill slip it into a cargo pocket or hoodie pocket. My walks are 6-10 miles so I usually have a hiking pack as well I could slip it into when not needed.

Since getting a dog, these have been my best friends as far as tools go. The LCR is a great Rule 1 gun that I’m trying to be more dedicated to having on around the house so there’s something on me when I’m taking the dog out every two hours or so.

The EDCL1-T is simply an amazing EDC light. Light press of the button for 5 lumens, hard press for 500, twist the cap for 5 then 500 constant on. The low is great for seeing to pick up dog turds or seeing what the little gremlin has in his mouth this time, without overkill amounts of light or burning through the battery (I’ve also been using a Streamlight Pro Tac 1L-1AA on high mode, and using it for admin tasks killed a fresh CR123 real quick). The fact that high mode is just a press away means I don’t need separate utility and “WTF is that” lights.

You'd be giving him the side-eye too if you knew what that dog knew.

Takes dog for walk in woods, stops to build lunch fire.
Fire is going, yet no food comes out of pack.
But, there is an axe, a knife, and a revolver set out for use.

We use the same shaving cream, married latinas and carry the same gun.

Though I do not wear my wedding ring as I cannot stand jewelry, even watches. Amazing I am still alive considering quien es mi esposa!

Yikes, that will get you killed in the streets my dude.

Thus far mi esposa hasn't force fed me a chancla...yet.

But I don't want to tempt fate by taking the ring off :D

It was fitted well by our local jeweler though so it's a comfy EDC item.

Fills out the hand more,

This is really what I'm looking for. With my Quasimodo hands I feel like it should feel holding the noisy cricket! Somewhere in my hand is a grip to something but where?!? I was debating on just dumping the 365s and going with something with an actual grip made for grown up people! For an extra $60 or whatever they are I'll wait a bit till WC has more in stock

Much more controllable for me. I shot between a dark and light pin cold today after not shooting for four months. Sig 365xl with this grip module was not holding me back

The Bodyguard stands out for me, as it works freely (and punches above its weight) in absolutely any and every environment.

It truly does. When I venture out at night, it goes in my pocket.

This is my Lego rendition of the Bodyguard v.2, configured for use with the Rogers-Surefire technique;

https://i.ibb.co/3W161QX/edc-31.jpg

Malkoff Bodyguard v.2 head (https://malkoffdevices.com/products/mdc-bodyguard-v2-head)
Oveready E35 body (https://www.oveready.com/flashlight/e35-body-ha-black/)
Oveready tailcap with McClicky and medium press boot (https://www.oveready.com/flashlight/custom-tactical-aluminum-tailcap-black/)
Malkoff grip ring (https://malkoffdevices.com/products/malkoff-devices-md-body-extender-kit)
Orbtronic 18350 1200mA IMR cell (https://www.orbtronic.com/18350-battery-rechargeable-imr-1200mah-high-drain-15a-li-ion-flat-top)

The above parts require some minor fitting, if anyone needs guidance let me know.

Yes, I EDC this light every waking moment!

https://i.ibb.co/5cb3kbC/edc-32.jpg

Have pocket, will travel - this light fits perfectly in the right-front zippered pocket of the Duluth Foreman's Pants (https://www.duluthtrading.com/mens-duluthflex-fire-hose-relaxed-fit-foreman-pants-45704.html). It rides so comfortably I don't even know it's there.

This is not only an illumination tool, but can also serve as a small battering ram. :-)

This light is truly the culmination of years of experimentation, finding just the right combination of parts to fit my needs.

Menu of parts;

Malkoff M91T head with high/low switch (https://malkoffdevices.com/products/m91t-md3?variant=21259071225936)
Malkoff MD4 body (https://malkoffdevices.com/products/md4-body-and-switch) (can be ordered sans tailcap)
Lumens Factory SW01 tailcap (https://www.ebay.com/itm/324789392923?hash=item4b9ef4d61b:g:mJkAAOSwGd5hQGy 4)
Powered by a pair of Orbtronic IMR 18650 3500mAh cells (https://www.orbtronic.com/3500mah-18650-imr-battery-high-drain-rechargeable-orbtronic-li-ion)

The light output is a useful blend of lumens and candela - plenty of spill for SA and with 19k candela, plenty bright. On high, the light will run for over two hours. Low setting, which is accessed with a twist of the head, is more than enough for general administrative uses and provides in excess of 12 hours of run time.

The Lumens Factory "twisty" tailcap has become a favorite. It's based on the old Surefire Z31 design, but is upgraded with a copper plunger. It has a fantastic momentary-only feel, is extremely durable and capable of handling high current. Unlike clicky switches, there are no tiny parts. The tailcap can be tightened to enable constant-on operation, but I use a thick O-ring to prevent unintentional tightening. In combination with the MD4 body, the ergonomics are excellent.

The key to carrying a large light is finding a comfortable way that does not interfere with daily activities and is discreet. As I mentioned above, the Duluth Foreman's pants allow me to do so.

If anyone is interested in the assembly details (there are some), feel free to ask.

Its a 1980s Colt Agent, when they had labor issues at the factory and decided that a dull finish was cool.

And I must say I rarely take to a new gun as quickly and completely as I did this one. The J frame was pretty much parked after getting it. Instant infatuation. The Goldilocks size pocket gun.

Cool enough for me. Nice gun. I have a similar looking Cobra with polish finish that I quit carrying due to parts availability concerns. I may just pull it back out of retirement as likely soon everything will be without parts replacement.

I kept hearing ab out the parts availability, but a little sniffing around revealed that Jack First and I think Numrich had new replacement hands available, I also found a complete Detective Spl parts gun for pretty reasonable, so I have spares for tinkering. Mine was in perfect time, but had some end shake, about .010-ish I believe, I swapped in the polished blue cylinder from the parts set, it times perfectly and had excellent end shake. Done.

The Colt forum also has a pretty good tutorials on stretching hands to correct timing as well as other basic tasks, none of which are rocket surgery.

Needless to say I just stopped worrying about the legendary parts and service issue. If I cant figure it out there are people who know how to work on them.

NH Shooter: what do you think of those LumensFactory bodies? They are nicely made, but since they are drilled for 18650 size batteries, the threads at the head-body interface don't have a lot of material remaining. I think this area is definitely the weak point of the design. I'm just theorizing what will happen if the light ever were to be used as an impact weapon. Pointless overthinking?

IMO, not pointless thinking at all.

The body wall is about 1mm thinner all the way around compared to a standard Surefire E-series body. The advantages are obvious;

The ability to accept an 18650 cell, which in my book is huge
Lighter weight

In terms of weight, the light above weighs 3.2 ounces with a pair of CR123 cells (or 3.6 ounces with an 18650 cell) vs. 3.5 ounces for the SF Tactician with a pair of CR123s and no ability to accept an 18650.

The obvious disadvantage is it won't be as strong using as a hammer. That said for the way a 3.6 ounce, 5-inch long flashlight might be used as an impact weapon, it is probably strong enough.

How often will I use a small light as an impact weapon? The longer run time and ability to drive a higher current head with an 18650 IMO is something I will benefit from all the time.

Additional information for my previous post;

Actual Measurements

Surefire Lumamax body;

Weight with clip = 1.0 ounce
Wall thickness at head threads (to thread lands) = .068"
Body ID = .675"
Body OD knurled area = .825"

Note that the SF body has three flats machined into the OD at 120 degrees apart - the wall thickness is much thinner in those areas;

https://i.ibb.co/j3s0JS7/e2xtd-1.jpg

Lumens Factory

Weight = 0.4 ounces
Wall thickness at head threads (to thread lands) = .035"
Body ID = .737"
Body OD = .820"
Body wall thickness = .0415"

I bought mine and several others for Christmas gifts in 2018, it has been on my set of keys with a Kubotan daily, drop multiple times so I think it did pretty good. The thing that bums me out is I had a spare but when I went to charge it up...nothing. I need to see if SF will take care of it. Hell my daughter killed one, too.

HKS n SL Variant?

Yes to HKS - should with SL Variant (I don't have any to test).

But we have designed it to accommodate everything from a L-Frame CompIII to a J-Frame HKS. It is diameter and tension adjustable. If you've got L-Frame SL Variants and it doesn't work - let us know and we'll see if we can expand the slots slightly to accommodate you.

At present it cannot accommodate N-Frame loaders, but I have a something I'm working on in my noggin' that might bring that functionality down the road.

My wallet actually prints more than anything else, but the TQ is the most noticeable thing. I ran out of room to fit a reload; decided the TQ and pepper spray are more important. It’s windy where I live so the choice between pepper spray and a reload was not obvious.

Here is a pic that includes both the SOFT and EDC tourniquets. The EDC looks much smaller but doesn’t carry that differently for me at first glance. Going to fool with it and see if I can find an arrangement that lets me include a reload with the EDC tourniquet.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20221208/19a7dba72932e79f562a84d3627d0057.jpg

They are Tactical Distributers “Carlos Ray” pants. Clusterfrack turned me on to them originally. I think he and others have had disappointments in inconsistent sizing and/or maybe shrinkage?

I’ve had pretty good luck with them, they are my favorite casual pants. Both for the pockets, and the fit/slight stretch. Often in the winter I don’t even bother changing out of them to lift weights. I have 5 pairs, 4 are exactly alike fit-wise and 1 is a tiny bit smaller.

Crossing over to the "tactical pants" thread material, I'm liking (mostly) the LAPG "Terrain Flex Straight Fit Pant" (that's a mouthful). They're like the Carlos Ray's in that they look less "tactical." My complaint is that I have... er... "larger" thighs, and these are very "straight fit" pants. Although I see they now have a relaxed fit in the jean version of the same pants.

That’s my problem. Both nature and my deadlift/squat routine makes finding pants even more difficult. I have to buy pants that have a waist that is too large and then have them tailored, as in the case of the 5.11.

I really like the Kuhl Resistor Chino when I need a dressier looking pant. I’d like to find an everyday option Thats better for winter and rain, the mostly cotton Carlos Rays aren’t good in the snow. I was avoiding Khuls for that since they’re a little pricy.

Depending on the level of winter and rain, maybe look at the Outdoor Research Goldbar pants. They are also mostly cotton but also have spandex for stretch and more relevant, a DWR treatment that makes them water resistant. I just bought a pair for winter wear myself. They also do a pretty good mil discount if you qualify.

Agreed; I’d never use the thigh pockets for a phone. I use them for car keys (that I never have to take out of my pocket), tourniquet, etc.

I don’t carry mine anymore, but it’s staying in the safe where it is until someone I’m either related to or might as well be related to needs it more than me.

The only thing it gives up to the modern crop of micros is capacity and optics ready availability. Otherwise it’s as good or better. Better, IMO, given the built in SCD and paddles.

This isn't Every Day Carry per se, but it does highlight some advancements in hardware.

The gear that I carry as a civilian (top pic) is the functional equivalent of what I carried On-Duty as a LEO in the late 70's. It's worth noting that we conducted vehicle stops, cleared buildings and conducted woodland manhunts with flashlights no brighter that what I now carry on my keychain.

The wheel-gun was an obvious harbinger of impending doom, but thankfully a few of us made it out alive to tell the story.

Yeah but if old gear went hands with new gear with just the flashlights, old gear will likely win that one. :) :)

Nice guy, turn around was about 3-months, price was in line with what my old Foster cost. TBH comparing it to my Foster's it's a nicer made jack with a better hand feel. Since requesting the offset head he has added it as a catalog item called the "Kopis".

I was reading a couple threads when I got done with doing dad duty last night and realized that the stuff I carry from day to day really does not fit in with the cool kids.
Today it was the G22 refinished in totally non tactical blue, and loaded with polymer coated SWCs (that are smoking hot woods loads actually) with a 50 year old Sharp Finger, and a leather OWB holster.

Yesterday, I was using my single stack Baer and the folding skinning knife I lucked into somewhat recently (love this folder).

Not with the awl, but once in Mexico there was an instance where, with a different SAK, the thought “I may have to hit this dude with the wine screw” occurred.

The tailcap used on this sample is an old SF Z31 twisty, which has an amazing feel to its operation making it ideal for a syringe grip (Rogers-Surefire Technique). Lumens Factory makes an excellent clone (https://www.lumensfactory.com/en/product_detail.php?pid=579) of this tailcap which IMO is even better than the original SF.

I've been carrying this light every day for months. I find the syringe grip to be fast to acquire and like holding a handgun, points the 70,000 candela beam very naturally;

As of now, waiting for Oveready to release the new E35 (and E70) bodies.

I enthusiastically adopted the Rogers Surefire technique immediately when it came out, and learned about the ring retainer from, of all people, Gabe Suarez. I laid out the princely sum of 65.00 for one(eating peanut butter sammiches for a few weeks), even though I had a perfectly usable Laser Products original. It had an eye scalding 65 lumens from its incandescent bulb that broke often enough to need replacements kept on hand. The hot lick was to use a flash-bang pull ring. I simply used a large split ring. In fact, I was so satisfied with it that years later I never bothered going to a WML.
Still got both.
Old cheap dogs and all...

I don’t know if this loadout counts as EDC, but I carried it every day I was camping.

Who made the holster?

Looks like a Harry's Icon, it's since been updated and now comes with a DCC Monoblock.

Up1911Fan is right. That's the original Harry's Icon holster. There is a 2.0 version but inflation has hit Harry's. The 2.0 is quite a bit more expensive than the original.

The Janitor:

That is a gorgeous Hi Power ("HP"). Would you be able to tell us about the pistol, especially in terms of who did the work and where you obtained the flat trigger? I run flat triggers on most of my 1911s and ARs and am intrigued by the one in your HP. A couple of years ago, I gravitated back to HPs and find they are a great tool in terms of daily carry and defensive use.

Thanks in advance.

Bruce,

That HP was built by the late Jim Garthwaite. I was lucky enough to acquire the pistol from another PF'er a couple/few years ago. It's been a great piece, and since it has been used a bunch, I'm not scared of putting some wear on it. The trigger is of Jim's own design, and he used to sell them. I believe Nighthawk bought the rights to the triggers after Jim's death. I'd put in a call to Bob Reeves in the NH custom Shop and inquire about them.

Kent:

Many thanks for the tip. I will reach out to Mr. Reeves next week. On a related note, it's nice to see guns like your Garthwaite Hi Power getting some honest wear. I ran plastic guns for work during most of my career and early into my retirement but have since switched back. Shooting Hi Powers and 1911s is like shaking the hand of an old friend. Or was a good friend once said, it is like shaking hands with John Wayne. Plastic guns have their place, but I prefer Hi Powers and 1911s.

Thanks again.

Bruce
