Apparently the van was a commercially build armored van like those used for cash transport, purchased used on EBay.

Any word how long ago the van was purchased? Like how long was he planning this?

One new sources reporting the van was sold on June 1 and previously belonged to a law-enforcement agency in South Carolina. That makes sense, you can see the foot rails and grab bars along the sides.

Well, he's dead now. Not really a victory for society given that he apparently had a history of mental illness and loved ones had tried to get him help before. I know, you can't help everyone, but how many of these incidents are the result of mental illness and not idealogy or traditional criminal motives?

We've shut down the state run facilities, we've pushed nearly everything to out patient care that's overwhelmed, poorly funded, and under resourced...and then wring our hands and wonder why these things happen. They happen because we don't segregate the violently mentally ill away from society any longer. Because liberty and self esteem and who's going to pay for it and WTF ever else. Then they shoot up a school, police station, whatever and the talking heads and public say "we've got to do something about mental health in this country." Then we don't because liberty and self esteem and who's going to pay for it and WTF ever else. Then they shoot up a school, police station, whatever and the talking heads and public say "we've got to do something about mental health in this country." Actually, this case is possibly the perfect example of someone with mental illness whose mental illness may have had nothing to do with his going on a killing rampage...but I'll start a new thread in the Romper Room to discuss that as to not derail this thread too much.
