I have been thinking of going with a mid weight upper for awhile now and was curious about these barrels. Anyone got any info?

Some members on M4C report really good results from the lightweight fluted barrels.

I don't think the medium weights have been out long enough to be thoroughly wrung out.

What standard of accuracy are you looking for? What ammo will you be using? What is your expected rate of fire?

for accuracy/coyote I will most likely be using 55 grain gmx 5.56 (if I can get it) and mostly 55 grain 223/5.56 training ammo. Rate of fire will matter on the activity but for hunting not much. Training I usually shot anywhere from 90-300 a month. I would possibly like to get into two or three gun. I will be utilizing a good optic that can reach out so I want an upper that will let me meet those distances regularly.

I have no personal experience with that barrel but it should work well for your needs. I would rather have a stainless barrel for precision shooting but for minute of coyote at 300 yards, it will do fine.

1:7 twist is fast for most 55 grain bullets but the GMX is longer anyway and should stabilize.

bro, could you link a 14.5 inch mid-length upper that you feel like would be more suited?

The barrel I have was made by Sabre Defense and they are no longer around. I have an 18" White Oak that is going on my next build but they only make 16" versions.

A google search yielded this 14.5" stainless barrel (http://www.tacticallink.com/Northtech-Defense-AR15-5.56-.223-Barrel-Stainless-Steel-Fluted-14.5-Ultra-Precision-.223-Wylde-NTD-AR15-BRL-14.5.html) which may be what you are looking for. No experience with them either but it has a sub MOA guarantee.

I only have one hammer forged barrel, a 14.5" lightweight Daniel Defense that I just put on my wife's AR. It seems to be good so far but I am wondering how it does when it heats up.

Lightweight barrels tend to shift around when they heat up, and are not as stiff. For precision, I like a medium to heavier weight barrel. If it is a rifle that you are going to have to sling up and carry around, I would want to have the lightest weight barrel as I can get away with.

My BCM lightweight BFH (Hammer Forged) 14.5" middy is a sub MOA barrel (.80"-.90") with any quality ammo I have run thru it.

I have a bud that has a Noveske N4 14.5" HF middy with over 50k rounds (Most of it high volume/suppressed) that still shoots about 1.5 MOA

This 1/8 twist 14.5" middy from B.A.D:http://www.battlearmsdevelopment.com/16-ultramatch-lightrigid-416r-ss-223-wylde-barrel-174 looks super slick, but service life is gonna be much less (10k-12k rounds total) on it, or any SS "Match" type barrel vs a quality CHF chrome lined barrel like the Noveske or BCMs which will easily hold their accuracy for twice that round count.

Nick, does your gone seem to shift zero when it heats up?

I will also point out that the BCM barrels with the contour you have mentioned... are IMHO, much better balanced then a conventional contour and a USGI contour.

Most of the weight and mass is at the receiver end.

I do not have a Med weight.... but my LtWt one is considerably more balanced then my conventional contour LtWt.

Bettter balance makes for a much "handier" rifle.

Buy the BCM... I do think you will like it.
