Hello,

I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan, but will be purchasing a Glock for concealed carry when I get back. I've decided on AIWB carry, and am now trying to decide between a Glock 19 or 26. I am 6'1", and weigh about 180 pounds.

Of course I will test-fire both when I get back, but I won't really be able to evaluate appendix carry at the range, so I figure I'd ask y'all's opinions based on my body size.

I would prefer to go with the 19, but am concerned about the barrel length with the appendix carry.

Any help or insight any one can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Max

Max,

I am 6' 2'' 210 ish and carry a G35 AIWB and have done so for the past 2 plus years. With a AIWB prupose built holster i.e. CCC Looper or Shaggy, mated to a quality belt i.e. Liger or 5 stich Wilderness, it is all day in the car comfortable.

For my sized hand, I actually prefer the G17 sized frame as I can pinch my hand between the base pad of the magazine and the bottom edge of the magwell when reloading a G19 at speed. For me, given how much easier it is to shoot/manipulate a full sized weapon v. a subcompact, the G26 as a primary weapon is a non starter.

Between the two, I would pick the G19. I would ask you to consider the G17 as well.

Be safe and well. Thank you for your service.

David

I would choose the G19. With the right holster you should be able to conceal it just as easily, and you will have an easier time shooting it due to the longer grip

When carrying AIWB/IWB, a LONGER barrel helps keep the pistol tucked in and secure. However, if you go with too long a barrel for your physique, then important anatomic structures can get poked. At 6 feet, 195 lbs, I find the G26 has far too short a barrel for stable carry and too short a grip for effective shooting. The G19 is the smallest I want to go with--it works well if you are going to bike ride (be sure to use G17 mags for reloads to avoid the hand pinch), otherwise the G17 is more than acceptable for daily carry with the proper holster and attire selection. Depending how your holster rides, the location of the holster on the belt, and your clothing, the shorter grip on the G19 can be an advantage over the G17 for some folks.

I've AIWB both the G19 and G26 pretty extensively. Nearly all with a straight drop FIST #1K ($45-$50) made for the G19. They both carry in this position very comfortably with this holster IME. I'm 5' 11" and 170 and while the G19 is easily concealable 95% of the time, there is that % of time where the 26's short grip is just a skosh more forgiving in printing and comfortable.

Max,
I would go with the Glock 19 for AIWB.

Thank you for your service and stay safe.

I'm on the short and not thin side and I couldn't pull off the shorter G26 AIWB. It wanted to flip out. The G19 works much better and I can easily conceal under just a t-shirt.

Alright then, sounds like the 19 is the way to go. I'll be sure to try the 17 as well, just to keep all of my bases covered.

Looking at a Raven Concealment Appendix Carry Rig.... does anybody have any experience with those?

Thanks for help all!

I tried one and didn't care for it. I can't recall exactly what I didn't like but it was a no-go pretty quick. I now use a Cane & Derby for my G19 and can't say enough good about it.

I've tried a lot of AIWB holsters, including the raven. Everything is gone except for my Shaggys.

Agreed. As soon as my G 17 Shaggy gets here my Fricke is getting sold.

Yeah now if only I could get one.

Quick tip for military folks, Glock has a policy allowing military, fire and some others to purchase Glocks at LE (individual) prices. FWIW, picked up a G19 for $398.00 a few months back with my ID.

Contact Glock if you need to find out who your state LE dealer's location.

G19, Shaggy. I'm wearing that exact combo now.

G19 & Fricke--I am wearing that right now, as I did yesterday, and likely will tomorrow...

G35 in a Shaggy as we speak. If I could not get a Shaggy, I would look at a Fricke or perhaps a Blade Tech Nano with some mole skin on it to push the butt of this pistol in as needed.
