View Full Version : Damn, I love this thing

Most know my deep seated love of the 3.5" N frame .357 Magnum. My 27-2 is sort of a constant TV watching companion. I have been messing around with various stocks and I am going to order up a set of finger groove Ahrends to try. I figured I would post a pic in its current state. The factory smooth presentation Magna's (yes Tam, those are for you as most of the heathens won't get it) don't fit it really well so they will be alternates to the Elk Stag Grashorns on my Highway Patrolman. I honestly hope that I get to a place in life where this gun in a Sloan holster will be daily wear and I don't feel the need for the soulless polymer counter robbery pistol.

They're my go-to shooting grips for my N Frames, very comfortable and a nice price point.

Wow...that...is...awesome.

I get this, I really do, but one thing would stop me from carrying that as a primary: the thought of some house mouse tossing it on a shelf in evidence if I had to blast a gang banger with it. Now as a Chicago PD backup to a soulless piece of plastic that could languish in evidence forever, yes.

Thanks Trooper. Anything with a covered backstrap is going to be too big. I know the standard Ahrends fit perfect, and I just got a set of J frame Ahrends with finger grooves that fit perfect, so it is worth the risk. Size wise, I actually do well with factory Magna's. Unfortunately, this set doesn't match up well with the frame of this gun, but they fit a couple of much older N frames really well.

Hambo...If the day comes that I am carrying this as a primary, I hope to be living in a place where "Nice work, seems like that feller needed shooting" is a use if force investigation.....:-). I will never be living in a socialist utopia city again.

I get it… but WHERE is the Pachmyar grip adapter?????

WHO is the heathen????;)

Like I said, they don't fit this ones frame real well. I do have the Pahmayer adapter that works with both the Grashorn Stags and the Presentation Magna's on the Model 28. I am actually kind of neutral on the grip adapters. I have several, but don't really "need" them like the folks with the bigger hands.

It was worth a shot. We have the same but different problem. :D Magna's on N frames don't work at all for me, although I do need to get a set for this gun just to go in the box. K and L frames are too small for me unless an oversized grip is used. I do have a pair of Grand Blue finger grooves with a covered backstrap on my Model 14 that work well, but the Ahrend's sound like the ticket for you. If I could only keep one handgun my 3.5 inch 27 just might be it.

I am right there with you on "if I could only have one", this may be it. Like I said, it would be nice at some point in life to be somewhere where my 27-2 as a carry gun and my 49-2 as a pocket gun were plenty.....someday.

Yep, we have the opposite problem. Get with me on PM's for K&L stuff...I have some big stuff in the grip box.

Yup. You can accomplish all you need here with a good 357

Had our 5 yr old's b-day party yesterday. 68 degrees, sunny, and a nice breeze. Since I've lived here my buds back in North Illinois have had much harder winters.

I got the best of both worlds :)

Or a nice .44 special/mag..

Which btw, if I owned the OPs beauty of an N Frame, I'd consider a rebore project.

I'm still grieving over that .44 Triple Lock I had to let get away when it recently walked into my LGS. :(

I have an obscene amount of big bores......I like "hi, my name is Darryl, I am a big bore-aholic" kind of issue. I think I have 5 Lew Horton snubs in the safe in .44 mag alone.

I tried to keep the wood stocks it came with on my M28 (former Pueblo, CO duty gun) but like a lot of other revolvers it now wears Pachmayrs.
The default to goodyears saves me some money on fancy grips anyhow. The four-inch M28 looks very businesslike with the Presentations it now wears.

Missed a six-inch M27 (just before the price jump craziness) due to my .41 Magnum affliction. One of the guns at the top of my "shoulda bought that" list.
Sometimes the $300 .45-70 Springfield trapdoor I turned down pushes it into second place, but not too often.

Let's just pray they never find a cure!

Nothing wrong with a bunch of big bores. I can sort of relate though, as off the top of my head I count 4 4" and 3 5" N Frame .44s before getting to longer barrel stuff, or single action .44s...

So Darryl,

The Open Carry bill cleared the State Senate in Austin today and is on the way to the House. The governor said he was "warming up" his pen. Guess it's time to get your N-frame goodness ready go!

Sweet Lord! A Grail a Gun...

That's my beater.... The grail gun I broke the bank on is Registered Magnum #40. Currently a 3.5 inch nickle and Carrie for 35 years at Lapd. The short barrel is serial numbered to the gun and was installed by Frank Pachmayer and it was sort of round butted and the back strap checkered, also by Pachmayer, likely in the 40's.

Dang, son! Show a picture of it. Bet it's got a history of violence, too, from old-time LaLa-Land...

Since you strike me as an SME, albeit a hopeless fellow addict, give me a ballpark:

A former Deputy gots a 2.5-in. Model 66-2 he wants to divest; what would be a decent good-very good price to offer? It'd be a skosh more wieldy than the DW 2.5VH and a more weather resistant companion for anti-snake/bad mammals during summer field time.

And has anyone sent an older Smith back to the factory for a massage and can advise the pricepoint on

I knew that making sure that I look unkempt and live in the basement of my mom's house is part of the look when out "OC ing". I figure I won't last long when I show up without a Kahr in a Fobus holster anyway.
