Looking for a sanctioned IDPA club in Northern Virginia (willing to drive to West Virginia or anywhere in Virginia within a 2 hour drive) in order to shoot a match and complete a Classifier. I'm not sure if it needs to be uploaded to the IDPA website, but the end game is that I am interested in taking this course in May at ITI:

A friend told me that the IDPA matches at Blue Ridge Arsenal aren't sanctioned, so I'm not sure if I am able to complete the classifier there?

I have shot USPSA matches before but not IDPA if that makes any difference. Also KSTG which has similar rules to IDPA?

There's a club search engine on the IDPA site. You can plug in the particulars you're looking for and come up with some options.

I just updated the match listings for Feb/March. https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?4235-Regional-Shooting-Match-Announcements

- You don't need to shoot a classifier to shoot a IDPA match. Most clubs (and IDPA rules) ask that you have an IDPA number for the 2nd match you shoot.
- Matches in the near future in our area:
>>> Sat, Feb 28 at Thurmont, MD (My match). Signup at https://clubs.practiscore.com/february-28-idpa-match-weather-permitting/register;
>>> Sun, Mar 1 at Sights Practical, Lewisberry, PA. They are having a classifier this day. NOTE: There is still a chance they could cancel due to the weather. This takes about 2 hours to drive there using US15. It is a little hard to find, so add some extra time for your first visit. This is a great club, and I enjoy going because of the shoothouse side match.
- Anne Arundel is having classifier matches Mar 6-7, but they require you take the New Shooter course, which they will host Mar 14. Email them if you want to get into their club. Before I became MD for Thurmont and Peacemaker, AAFG is where I went to shoot IDPA. Malcolm Blundell and Skip Miller are great MD's and they have a lot of great props, and it is good to be qualified to shoot there. They run 3-4 matches a week. It takes about 1hr15min to drive out there and it is easy to find. http://www.aafgidpa.com/
- Sanners Lake is having a match Mar 7, but I don't think it will have a classifier. It is about 2hr drive.
- New Holland is probably too far to drive, at about 3 hours.
- Unless things have changed, Blue Ridge Arsenal is not affiliated, so cannot submit IDPA classifier scores.
- Fairfax ROd and Gun has not yet announced their March match, but it wouldn't surprise me if they punt it to April.
- Peacemaker National Training Center will host a IDPA match, weather permitting, Mar 14, AM and PM sessions are scheduled. I am the MD and we haven't decided on the classifier yet. I will let you know. We are likely to have a classifier. It takes about 1.5hrs to drive out there.

IDPA is a lot like KSTG, except less punishing on some of the rules. Down 1 hits are .5sec added to your time instead of 1sec added in KSTG. There is no muzzle forward of cover penalty. But the COF is more restrictive, but unless you are a MD you probably won't notice a difference. USPSA is quite different, using shooting boxes, and shooting in any order. The IDPA uses "slice the pie" and "near to far" priority, just like KSTG.

We will also host a classifier at Thurmont on March 29 (and probably Tuesday, Mar 17).

My recommendation is to come out to Thurmont Saturday and shoot the Thurmont match so you can see what it is about. (We are shooting very short stages due to weather, though). Then, sign up for the Peacemaker match Mar 14 once we announce the classifier.

Then WV State Sanctioned match is June.

I talked to Cole at Peacemaker and he wants to have a regular match March 14 and not a classifier.
We will have a classifier in April instead.
There should be plenty of opportunities for a classifier in the area.
I will try and list them here.

Looks like FFRG is going to run it's classifier In April, or so I have hear. Peacemaker will be running their's in May, or atleast that is what was in the email I got from them. FFRG is a little confusing exactly how to register for an event. You need to request an online account, have it approved, then sign up for the action pistol newsletter, which is where they announce the event and when it is open for registration.

Thurmont Conservation and Sportsmen's Club announces a IDPAclassifier match for Sunday, Mar 29, 2015, starting at 11AMending by 3PM.Please register at: https://clubs.practiscore.com/thurmont-sun-mar-29-classifier/register
Once approved you will be allowed to squad. I am registering squads by the hour as I expect to run at least two bays and three people per bay per hour. Depending on response we can either expand the number of bays or number of hours.
Please bring at least 120 rounds and $15. If time slots are available you may run a 2nd division classifier.
The first squads need to show up 45min early to setup. The last squads will tear down and stow the materials.

Please email me at thurmontidpa@verizon.net if you are a new shooter along with your shooting resume: trainings taken, qualifications, other pistol competitions, etc.

We will be using practiscore for this match.
