Now, what's the story, is this a limited run? Semi-standard production?

I'm remaining ever so hopeful that this pistol is the same one that is currently on my overlords approved handgun roster list.

If it is, I just have to figure out how to pay for one.

Looks like something lit a fire under BUSA. New M9A3 proposal, the Wilson Combat partnership, the return of the Vertecs, and now the famed 92G-SD is back. Nice to see BUSA trying to compete in the marketplace.

If the same as the last 92G-SD, it should also have tritium inserts for the sights, checkering on the front and back straps, and the frame with the rail.

orionz06, how are you holster makers doing with all the slide/frame versions Beretta is now offering? I suspect the Wilson gun and the 92D SD would probably use the same holster, but the 92A1 has a different slide, and I think I saw somebody comment the M9A3 will have yet another slide profile.

For a kydex maker, is there even a difference between the straight and angled dust covers of the non-railed guns?

I've been pretty interested in a few the new Beretta models, but I always look at holster availability and wonder if my options may be limited, at least in the near term.

orionz06
01-08-2015, 09:15 AM
I've done OK with OWB's fitting the railed and non-railed frames, 92A1 and FS as I understand it.

At some point I'll have to phone a friend and make a flowchart. I have been developing something that should fit all of them though. It's been a hell of a struggle and may actually be coming to a close soon.

The biggest differences are slide width, trigger guard shape, rail, and the shape of the slide in the case of the Elite models. As someone who like buying guns to have guns because guns are cool I'll likely have to snag a few of whatever folks like to confirm.

I wouldn't say the heavier slide is the chief advantage. Standard vs. Brig slide with regard to shootability seems to come down more to shooter preference than anything.

The heavier slide also comes with more sight options since its dovetailed.

You're also getting frame stippling, the magwell bevel, and the rail. That's assuming this has the M9A1 frame which it almost certainly will.

Not sure if i want the M9A3 or this... Since the standard Beretta Grip doesn't bug me, i guess price is going tip be the deciding factor. But, i would need to do the factory conversion on the A3 to make it into a G model. Prob gonna just do a 92G SD as a beater to my Wilson.

But, the M9A3 would look nice with my FDE furniture Colt 6720... This is goons be an expensive year!

It's not the weight, but rather the dovetailed front sight. Plus, you get all the benefits of the M9A1 frame (rail, checkering, beveled mag well IIRC). Plus, it was conceived by an unholy union of Todd and Super Dave. It's like the Rosemary's Baby of the Beretta world. How can you not love the little demonic bastard?

I'm hopeful. I'm kind of thinking that given that Beretta ponied up whatever coinage it took to renew the SD through 2016, they are planing on selling it to us poor Gunnies trapped behind the Redwood Curtain. Given that 92A1s and the Wilson 92G Tactical are off limits, the SD just might be the Holy Grail.

So...
M9A3

G-SD
Wilson Combat guns

Beretta seems to be making a big marketing push/come-back in popularity. So, maybe Beretta is taking the SIG approach with a variety of models? They've always had limited runs, but to my eyes it appears the market can bare more than the limited runs of non-plain M9 or 92s they make.

Now, the thing in the box... maybe an American introduction of the Combat*? Sig has the P226 SAO and I could see the Stock competing with it. Or, based on the can, more likely whatever their MHS entrant is.

*Pure speculation based on Beretta seemingly listening to consumer demand.

It would interest the WROL youtube "Tactic-cool" demographic. Cleetus may have poor taste, but selling to his rampant consumerism pays the bills for the nice guns WE want.

My understanding is the PVD magazines are 15 rounders, not 17.

Beretta does have factory 17 round ,smooth finish 92 mags-but they ship with the Italian import 92A1s.The G-SDs are US made.Methinks different logistical channels between BUSA and the Gardone V.T. home office.

I'm dumb, I always thought that smooth, slick fingerprint-lovin' finish is what we're talking about when we talk about PVD. So the PVD mags are just those standard blue steel 15-rounders?

Still, it seems they'd be working on moving the 17-rounder to being their standard magazine. Two extra rounds is a good selling point.

PVD= sand resistant 15 round mags. They ship with the M9A1s. Im away from home right now,but ill post a photo of mine later.

Frankly, ive prefered the balance of the 15 round mags to the 18 round MecGars or 17 round "Italian" mags. The latter two mags seem to alter the balance of the gun beyond my comfort for carry purposes. Odd how two or three rounds can do that, but here we are.

-Forgot to note, the 17 round Beretta mags are a pain to load compared to the 15 rounders or the MecGar(think PX4 Storm spring resistance). The price for more rounds is mandatory use of a magazine loader during extended sessions.

Someone on M4C said the MSRP will be around $1300. However, I suspect that market forces will drive the street price down to a bit less than the Brig Tac which I consider to be an enhanced G-SD.
