Very nice! I am envious. What do you Smith fans think of the M24 remake "Thunder Ranch" model? Two at my LGS.

Love the gun, hate the lock and the big gold logo. I have seen some without the logo, and that would be my first choice.

The fact that I could sell my BMW roadster and only have enough to buy one or two of those guns saddens me.

Ref. the Model 22 re-issues: I thought all the 22 TRs were sans logo and only the 21s were fruited up like that? I live with the logo on my 21 because it's a round-butt, and I prefer that setup for a CCW revolver and would be barred from membership in the S&W Collectors Association, if not lynched outright, were I to grind on an original Model 21 or Third Model 44 H.E. frame.

I had a bad experience with running a revolver that is chambered in an auto round, and simply won't go down that road. I "think" I saw a TR21 without the logo on the Smith forum for sale recently, but didn't have the funds.

On my "wish" list is essentially a model 27 3.5" in 44SPL or .45Colt, but that is just me

It is kind of funny about the comment on the SWCA. I actually took the picture yesterday at a heavyweight in the SWCA's house. As soon as he pulled the guns out, I though "oh look, Tam special's".......all of them (for those who don't know, 1500 total of those guns were built. The 4" are particularly rare....to see all the barrel length's with original boxes in 98% plus is impressive). We were there for him to look at my Registered Magnum. He didn't mind the round butting on it and had some good suggestions for getting grips done..........I guess when Frank Pachmayer is the guy who ground on it, it's okay....

Care to share what that experience was? I am quite fond of S&W .45 ACP revolvers - I have a 325 TR, a Model of 1917 repro, and I'm considering an overpriced 1937 Brazilian contract at my local Cabela's - so any insight from someone as experienced with revolvers, as you are, would be beneficial.

Yep -- none of the 22 TRs had the gold inlay and they made some 21s without it too. The 22 TR is also a square butt (not directing that at Tamara who I'm sure knows it anyway).

I was very heavy into revolver shooting (particularly man on man speed steel) back in the late 80's to mid 90's. One gun I heavily invested in was the 1989 model 625 in .45 ACP. It was an unreliable abortion, and Lord did we try everything to get it to run right. I also had a 9mm revolver for a very short time (forgive my memory as to which one.....but it was so short lived and unmemorable as to exactly which Smith or Ruger it was) that also sucked. It may just be me and some sort of jinx, which I fully accept. God does not want me to have them:(. On the other hand, my business partner has a .45 ACP N frame that he slays Bambi and other cute creatures with ruthless efficiency, so it is an individual type of thing. I know a ton of folks who love the 1917's in particular. I always went with .45 Colt variants of the older large frame guns as I am a .45 Colt fanboy.

I would like one of the non-gold 22's. Just need to have money in my pocket at the right time. I have sort of a "need" list right now that includes something along the lines of a .44 Special large frame older or older styled Smith N frame. One of the non-gold 22's would fit that "hole", and I wouldn't worry about carrying or shooting the thing. I am a addict for 4" and shorter .44 Mags. I have "too many (no such thing actually :p)". Due to that long addiction, I also have some horrendous arthritis in my hands that makes shooting them painful these days. A nice .44 special would be fun (yes, I know I can shoot .44 Special in my mags......but there is that whole temptation and tons of ammo issue).

I've found that it's a self curing problem. If you keep giving in to that temptation within another decade or so you will be definitely cured of it. Of course you might find yourself thinking that 9mm service rounds hurt to shoot by then.

I am at the point where shooting 9mm is fine.......loading mags on the other hand is total torture:(. On a positive note....I have gone on a mass buying spree of .38/.357 revolvers and am shooting more .38 spl. these days than anything else.

I like the big bores. Been a fan of them for a long time but my body no longer likes them. My 329's went to others because my hands could not take the punishment. My body no longer wants the weight of the big bores. I have moved to the 35 bore. When I was younger I would tuff it out. The body has a way of letting you know when it's running out of tuff. I also have been gathering 35 bore revolvers. Snubbies preferred.

I use a mag loader these days precisely because of the torture aspect. I used to think that mag loaders were one of the most unnecessary devices ever invented, but then I learned different.

Those 38's/357's ought to prove to be a very good investment, though, and shooting 38's in a heavy steel revolver almost makes old hands feel a lot younger.

That visit was simply an epic experience of viewing great old S&Ws, great old books and a great lunch, too. And I love .45 ACP in my 625 Mountain Gun. It works great, shoots very tight groups and kills deer like the Hammer of Thor. In fact it's going to kill deer this weekend, Lord willin', but it sure doesn't have the class of those beautiful HDs!

It will unless little Ashlynn says her "Dear God, please don't let Uncle Wayne see a deer" prayer.......:o

OK, next time I go to this LGS I'll check on the caliber. They actually have two, both with the silly gold "Thunder Ranch" logo. I would have sworn they're .44 spl. They're used, ANIB, on consignment. I have watched them for more than a year. There used to be a M57 remake too.

If they have the gold logo, then they almost certainly ARE the .44Spl guns. As far as I know the blued steel .45ACP TR square butt guns never had the gold inlay. They were both quite serviceable guns IMO.

I had one of the .45's. The bluing was poorly done, it wouldn't group worth a darn, and I think the charge holes were oversized. I loved the idea of the gun but had to sell it.

I don't know why I keep coming back to the S&W well; I've had to return 50% of their guns to the factory for service. Maybe it's because I've also had to return 45% of all the other brands of guns I've ever bought to the factory and just figured it was me.

That stinks. My copy was nicely built and finished -- I sorta wish I still had it. The 21TR I owned was a good revolver too. I've since stopped shooting big-bore revolvers and all the ones I own are .38/.357.

I have one of those on .338/06 rifles. Every time I get one, things go completely to hell in nearly every part of my life. It doesn't happen with the 35 Whelen, 9.3x62, or 375 H&H, but the .338/06 does it every time.

Your just trying to get a bargain on a .338-06 to stick with the "Family" caliber...;-)
