I picked up my new P30, and now I want a holster.

What would be a good IWB holster for Arizona?

Thank you

What type of holster are you interested in? IWB/OWB? AIWB or strong side? Kydex or leather?

I'm using a comp-tac ctac with my p30 right now living in florida. Its working pretty good so far, and I didn't want to wait for over a month for my first holster for it.

I have a Shaggy AIWB, and Kydex OWB, but my favorite so far for the P30 is the leather (A)IWB I picked up from JRC Holsters. It works for both AIWB and standard IWB.

Both the Shaggy and OWB work for their intended purposes, but for overall daily use, I prefer the leather.

JRC is a member here, and his work is top notch, comfortable, durable, and very functional. Take a look at his stuff and see if it suits your needs.

Thanks for the plug Sean. Here is a pic of the Modified IWB P-1 Holster I did for Sean. This is typically carried 3:30-5:00. The leather flanges conform to your body and this hides very well. It also happens to be for the P30.

Going off the fact that I know you are a beginner from the other thread...

If you buy a leather IWB holster, make sure it won't collapse when you remove the gun. Some holsters collapse under the weight of the belt/waistband, and others are built to be much more rigid. The ones that collapse are a PAIN in a class. I was behind a guy who had a holster like that, and I almost wanted to buy him a holster just because I didn't want him to keep flagging me with his firearm every time he needed to put it away. When he would "put it away" he would have to pry the holster open with one hand and then make 9-10 attempts to put it back.

Long story short: make sure it is rigid enough to keep from collapsing when the firearm is removed.

For leather, 5Shot Leather, Milt Sparks or AIWB Desbiens Gun Leather, for kydex AIWB Shaggy by CCC, I've not had luck with any other kydex IWB rig and prefer leather myself. You will not have any problems with leather in warm weather carry, ie. sweat issues.

Since you are interested in strong side carry these would be some good options:

Leather: (as has already been mentioned) JRC holsters, Desbiens, 5Shot Leather, Milt Sparks. A lot of people have said great things about TT Gun Leather and Garrity Gun Leather. Both JRC and John Ralston of 5Shot Leather are on this forum. You could talk to them about any design questions you have.

Kydex: Raven Phantom (who does good work but has an extremely long wait time) and Cane & Derby are a couple big names thrown around. Also, Atomic Dog Holsters and Dark Star Gear (made by Orionz06 on here) are other options. If you want faster options you could look in to Comp-tac or Blade-tech.

The two holsters I currently own are a Raven Phantom and a Comp-tac Infidel. Both suit their purposes. The Comp-tac I received quickly. The gun fits well but there are some design issues I have with it (like access to the mag release and a very high sweat guard). The Raven is very well designed and manufactured, but (IMHO) took way too long to ship to me. I also have some gear on order from Dark Star Gear and am looking forward to some T&E with that.

Hope this helps and good luck. Holster Acquisition Syndrom sets in quick with all the options out there!

You didn't mention if you needed tuckable, which is a pretty big deal to me. I've had a lot of success with the hybrid IWB holsters as far as comfort and concealability while wearing tucked-in dress shirts. I'm learning that the draw is not nearly as fast as from pure kydex or leather, though, assuming the hybrid is configured for enough retention to make me happy. So, I'm definitely still in Holster Acquisition mode, myself.

Also, newbie to newbie: I'm glad I did what everyone advised; that is, I got an empty box, labeled it "holsters," and settled in for a long, expensive road. I feel like I've taken it slow and steady, learning the pros and cons of each holster for at least a few weeks before trying another one. It's been a few months now, and I already need a bigger box.

I do not need a tuckable

By hybrids you mean the leather with kydex like the crossbreed and mtac?

Yep, a leather/kydex hybrid. I have a Crossbreed SuperTuck and an MTAC Minotaur. They're both ridiculously comfortable and they both conceal ridiculously well, at least for me. I carried a USP45c in the crossbreed for years, and now a G19 in the Minotaur. I can pull both off with a t-shirt if I'm a little careful.

Both TT and Desbiens make great quality holsters. You can't go wrong with either company once you decide which fits you best.

cowhide or horsehide?

single mag holder or

Covert Reverse Cant Mag Holder (R/C):
The R/C mag pouch essentially positions the spare magazine at an extreme rearward angle and is designed to be worn between your body center-line and the front pocket. This works well for positioning gear forward of the hip points to optimize access for confined spaces, entanglement, and economy of motion. Also for reloading off your back such as fending with an open guard or reloading in the bucket seats of a small vehicle. From a regular standing untangled reload this mag pouch is extremely fast. It’s like a competition pouch optimized for concealed carry, and hand placement is perfect! This magazine holder is not for everyone, just those who want lightning fast reload capabilities.

I have four of the Desbiens pouches (two each for Glock and P30). They don't work for me. They require me to pull the magazine outward, away from the body, then reverse direction toward the gun at my centerline. While the position may be fast, the angle is not.

I can't speak on the mag carrier, as that is personal preference and can be based on your training and clothing choices.

On the Horsehide or cowhide issue, I would go with Horsehide. It's all I use. I like the fact that it is thinner and has a tighter grain. For IWB, that extra thinness can be nice. The Horsehide is also much smoother on the inside. It makes for a nice smooth draw and is less prone to pick up particulates that can scratch you gun. Of course, this is just my opinion based on 25 years of using mostly horsehide holsters with some Cowhide and nylon mixed in there.

I was first interested in Rhomes other holsters but I wanted to make sure the holster would not fold. Rhome recommended the IWB #4 as it's more than a reinforced mouth band. I was going to order that but when I asked about cant he recommended another holster with 20 degree cant as he said the IWB #4 was primary an appendix carry holster.

or I could get 20 degrees of cant added to the IWB #4 for $30

he recommended this:

would anyone mind trying an appendix neutral cant holster at 3:30-4?

Thanks
