Concur, and a .357mag..............

Can Ruger revolvers get any uglier?

Having handled and shot one, I'll keep my 637.

It's an eyesore, true, but I am a fan of 3" 5-shooters. If it shoots to POA, I could see overlooking its tuna fish profile in order to have an expendable alternative to my beloved 1976 36-1 for knocking around.

Interesting indeed.

Hopefully this is Ruger testing the waters for a full sized combat tupperware revolver. A 3-4" poly Security Six in 357 would be awesome.

My thought exactly.

And since my sole interest in a small revolver is for secondary/BUG/pocket use, the extra barrel and grip length here defeats that purpose.

But I can see where this one would be a great shooter...

I will echo this, and repeat my request for a 3" 5-shot DAO .44 special with slightly scaled up LCR frame and lockwork.

A bulldog with the attributes of a postmodern flexing, lightweight poly frame, and even smoother camming trigger geometry would be compelling. Welcome to the new 70s...

Ditto. That gun as a 6 shot (or 7) would make a great nightstand gun for most of America. Especially with the laser.

The first thought I had was WHOA!!! Then, "Why didn't I buy that 4" Smith 25-5 a few years ago for $225?"

Totally different purposes, but I think it was a knee jerk self defensive reaction to seeing that Ruger

Thinking the next ones out will be LCR9s with & without the x. The "Latest & Greatest" half-life of handguns is catching up with electronic devices for shortness of duration.

With only a 5 shot capacity, I think I'd just choose a 3" SP101, or, better yet, a 6-shot 3" GP100 with the old Letts compact grip...

Best, Jon

You had a chance to buy a 4" Smith 25-5 a few years ago for $225 and you didn't do it? How have you managed to sleep at night since then? At least tell us that you used the money for, say, a NIB Python or something like that!

I have to admit, that gun is so ugly I'm almost glad they're prohibited up here.

Well,...um,... it seemed like an OK decision at the time. Part of the reason I wish I'd bought it was that it used to be owned by a guy I knew, it was one of his mountain guns. Anyway, I checked it with some new brass, it was pretty easy to get the rims under the extractor star, which I had heard could be a problem with the 45 Colt guns. Loose chambers seemed to contribute, as well as the tiny rims on 45 Colt shells. I also had a couple perfectly good 29's, one of which has gone many miles with me. It bothers me more as time goes on though that I didn't buy it. I did end up buying a nice Smith 24 a few years later though.

Well . . . at least that Smith 24 redeems you. In fact, where I live they are far harder to find than 25's (which aren't easy).

It is a 4" 24. I love it though. Its about my favorite all around general carry gun when I don't need the 29.

Especially if they unkittened themselves and made it a 7 or 8 shooters instead of being a 6 shooter

What would be interesting is if there were no hammer. I personally believe the LCRx line should have never been born and that this 3" gun should have come as an outgrowth of the regular LCR line.

I can't quite fathom why the .22 is an 8 shot and the .22 Mag is a 6 shot.

I can't quite fathom why the .22 is an 8 shot and the .22 Mag is a 6 shot.

I've been told that it's because of chamber pressure - a .22 Mag out of a pistol is operating at a higher pressure than a .38 Special +P. You have to cut those walls awful thin to fit 8 .22s in a cylinder that small, and maybe trying to squeeze 8 rounds in there that are operating damn near 9mm levels makes Ruger's engineers a little squicky.

The 38s use the same speedloaders are the sp101. I assume the cylinder diameters are if not the same at least similar?

I wouldn't mind a .22 mag with the heavier non-tapered cylinder if they got at least 87 of them in there...

I was running on the assumption that there wouldn't be much difference in wall thickness between the .357 Mag chambers in a five shot and the .22 Mag chambers in an 8 shot.
If anyone has a .22 version and would be willing to measure the wall thickness between chambers I'd be happy to measure my .38 just to satisfy curiosity.

LGS has one. $439. Liked the grip. The cylinder release needs to be bigger. Trigger was light but not smooth.

Yeah, didn't understand that, since Smith already had theirs out in 7 shot.

.22 Mag in some of the new defense loadings make a 7 shot revolver look pretty viable for a recoil sensitive person to use for HD/CCW.

Whoa. THAT would be interesting...... My Security Six/Speed Sixes are treasured favorites. But a lightweight one would be really cool.

Don't know if there's enough market for a medium frame .357 for them to do it though.... but there should be.....

I'm a revolver guy too. Part of the appeal of a good DA revolver is the classic good looks. Like my 3" M13, 4" M686, etc. But since Ruger is dispensing with steel and making a good portion of the thing out of polymer then I guess they get to decide what it looks like. A lightweight 6 shot, 3" carry revolver would seem to fill a void, especially since S&W won't make any more.

I'd really like to see a hard use modern construction/materials wheelgun, something that can be field stripped like my Security Six, and that can better withstand things like dust, sand and getting dunked than the older revolvers.

^^^Where's the "thumbs up" icon? I think there is plenty of agreement about this on P-F.com; we just need to work on Ruger.com.

As an aside, I got to fondle one of these beasts at my LGS over the holidays. With the barrel and OEM grip as provided by Ruger, it's definitely a bigger envelope than an SP101--I see no real carry advantage over, say, my old 2" model 12. The 3" LCR is a *lot * bulkier than my 3" 36-1 in carry trim, albeit way lighter.

The advantage to the whole concept is making a given platform (eg. 5-shot snub) lighter, cheaper. Do that with a 6 or 7 shot gun, sure. But making a 5-shot bigger is an answer in search of a question.
