So, my girlfriend surprised me by telling me she's taking me to St Croix next month for my 30th birthday! I've never been to an island like the USVI, so I'm incredibly stoked. Not to mention she's TAKING me there.

Just wanted to start a conversation about your guys' favorite vacation spots and see if you're going anywhere this winter.

Destin, FL. Sadly, not going. Already went once this year.

One of my closest friends is going to SA TX in March for some AF requirements. I'm to join him there.

I'll try and drink all the beer in TX.

Joy.

Going to the farm for a 2 day overnight deer hunt/camp this weekend with my brother who's home on leave...a staycation if you will.
He also turns 21 this weekend.

I went to Europe two weeks ago for about two weeks for Science! I picked up some data from the London Museum, went to a conference in Berlin, and goofed off in Paris enroute to Berlin from London.

Prague is my favorite vacation spot by far. Plan on spending as long as they will let me stay in a few years, to travel Europe. That said, planning a trip to Volcan, Panama this upcoming year.

Heading to Memphis in a bit for a 5 day vacation. Gonna visit the King's house, go on a few historic tours of Memphis, drink copious amounts of "stuff", and eat like the King himself. Oh, and we're going with four friends of ours. Should be fun. Never been there.

Came back from Napa Valley wineries tour two weeks ago. Very detrimental to my wallet and liver. Lotsa fun.

Boudro's on the Riverwalk is great.

My favorite is Tuscany, out in the middle of nowhere, exploring some hill town. I've had family in town the past few days, and we've been rolling through my supply of Vino Nobile dI Montepulciano.

Obviously I'll need to go back and get more.

Just got back from two weeks in Florida that was part business and pleasure. I have some trips planned to Arizona and St. George, UT this winter and am hoping to stretch the legs on my precision rifle in both places. Of course the pistol skills will be honed as well.

Lucky you – she sounds like a great gal! Some time ago, my girlfriend surprised me with a Valentine's Day gift of a trip to Iceland. I was totally blown away by the gesture.

She's my wife now. ;-)

Headed to North Carolina next week for five days...nothing too exciting but it's been awhile since we've gone out of state, so it will be a nice change. Almost more importantly, no work next week.

I hope it's cold up there.

Daughter is coming to visit around Christmas so I'm taking a couple weeks off. Then there is the annual January camping trip in southeastern Ohio.

High for today is 38, low is 19....it's freezing in central NC.

A couple of weeks ago, my girlfriend flew me off to Paris for a week for my 50th. That was the trip of a lifetime, and I've had a few good ones in the last couple of years. Next up is likely Puerto Rico in March as she has a work event she'd like me to accompany her for. I was on the fence about going (pro: Puerto Rico; con: being the escort for her work-related dinner functions, etc.) but I owe her one and what the Hell? It is PR after all. I plan to get some diving in while she does breakout sessions and the like.

I finished my first hiking/primitive camping trip in Guadalupe Mountains National Park a couple weeks ago. It was not fun at all, due to the complete failure of accurate weather forecasts for essentially my entire trip, along with some basic errors in packing. However, it was hugely enlightening, and despite not being fun, was an experience of a lifetime, so I do hope to go go back again within the next couple of years and retrace my route, albeit in fairer conditions. My next camping trip will probably be Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, within the next month or so, while my next extended wilderness trip will most likely be Big Bend National Park, sometime next year. I am also visiting the ROC next year for two weeks; most likely the last time I'll see my grandfather alive.

Planning on going to Puerto Rico again next year. The wife and I have been there three times now. PR is rather close to the VI, same type of weather, etc.

Culebra, part of PR politically but closer to being one of the Virgin Islands via map or geologically, is almost exactly what you would find terrain wise in the VI, and it's a place I rather like.

Everything Ive read so far has made me happy we're going to St Croix as opposed to PR. Tell me more about this Culebra place

Culebra is one of the islands attached to PR, Vieques being the other. The pic above was taken on Flamenco Beach, widely regarded as one of the best beaches on the planet.

You'll find interdasting things there like; 2759
and;

I've had zero issues with any of our trips to PR, just an observation. While I'm pretty confident while traveling there due to being able to exercise HR218, I've never yet needed my gun on OR, which is something that I can't say about places like DC, KCMO, Topeka, Gulfport Miss, NOLA, Eudora Ark.,,,,,,

Not till the summer. Then it's off for a 4000 or so mile road trip to Rushmore, Yellowstone, Arches, Bryce and the narrow gage in Durnago.

Perhaps we can make it a Central TX PF meet or something...

USVI is great, my wife and I spent our honeymoon at St. John's.

After this Afghan vacation is complete, we'll probably go to St. George Island, FL with my folks for block leave.

A Central TX PF meet would be awesome, I'm out of Hood.

My former in-laws used to have a place there. 20 years ago, it was beautiful and very sleepy (like chickens in the street sleepy) and the snorkeling and diving were fantastic. You had to take a puddle jumper or a ferry to get there. I think it's gotten a bit better known since then, but it looks like it's still just as beautiful in any event.

Have you been to the UP in January?

We decided to skip a vacation this year to get some much-needed work done around the house.
Current plans are for a trip to TN next April, for the NRA Annual Meeting and then time with my folks. It ain't a week on Kauai or The Big Island, (or an Alaskan cruise, which we did last year with my folks, my sister and niece and aunt and cousin) but it beats cleaning the garage...

Sedona is just magnificent. If you can only go to one of your desired destinations, head there. You won't regret it.

Boudro's Texas Bistro (http://www.boudros.com/). The duck, quail, and double pork chop are my favorites. I also rate the tableside guacamole as strong-to-very-strong.
