Striker fired? Looks like hammer fired.

Yes you are correct. The MTX pictured is hammer fired single action. The STX is a 1911 striker fired pistol. Heres an article about it.

The hammer spring/firing pin stop is an essential part of reducing slide velocity and delaying unlocking in a 1911.

This might be a neat concept in 9mm but I think I will pass in a .45

Information is scattered throughout the net. As I understand it the MTX uses a 1911 slide and a 1911 type thumb safety.
Basically its a polymer double stack lower with claims to superior ergonomics leading to instinctive pointing and better recoil management. Also no grip safety.
The STX is not even listed on their website.

The linked interview did not fill me with confidence in respect to the design.

That Bruce Siddle is involved should fill no one with confidence.

The website says the Detonics MTX models have an aluminum alloy frame.
Will the striker fired version actually have a polymer frame?

I would prefer a quality alloy frame, personally, but in any case, the MTX grip as pictured looks about as fat as a Para-Ordnance.
One of the best features of JMB's original 1911 design, IMNSHO, is how well-suited the grip is to the hand; I'm afraid a fat grip just won't feel right. I'll reserve opinions until I can see one.

Has anyone ever manufactured a double stack 1911 that was considered reliable?
