Quite a while back, one of my customers who happens to be a forum member, contacted me about a custom job. He wanted a truly custom briefcase. He showed me examples of cases he liked. The issue was, he was having trouble finding the exact configuration he wanted. Liking the challenge I said yes.

While everything seemed fairly straight forward, i was in for quite the lesson. This case took me WAAAYYYY longer than I expected. I guess I didn't truly account for learning curve. After several ruined components and the smell of wood burning furiously, every time I thought my way through it, I had a finished product that I am very happy with.

The case shipped out yesterday, via priority mail. With the customers permission, I am posting pictures.
The case is made from Horween #1 horsehide and Chromexel. It is lined in red buffalo calf. It comes with a full newspaper pocket on the back, three main compartments(one with pockets for a tablet) and a fully gusseted accessory pocket. The accessory pocket can hold a phone, biz cards, pens, eyeglass cases, etc. It also has a sewn in hook for hanging a keychain. There is also strategically placed velcro to accept the mandatory holster that I am working on now ;)

Hope you enjoy,

That is well designed and beautifully executed. It was definitely worth the wait.

Thanks to the owner and the creator for the pictures.

That is a heirloom item right there, I can see some lucky grandkid or great grandkid carrying that around 100 years from now. Things like that are what makes America great.

^^^This, definitely this.

I am a fan of great leather work in bags (daily tote a saddleback bag), and I can instantly envision the thought and work that went into that brief. The result is stunning; I love the red inside, and the stiching, keyholder, strap keepers, pen loops; pretty much everything looks straighter than hell and clean as can be.

It's like a PhD thesis in leather; congrats on pulling it off so well! Definitely hot. Gorgeous.

Thanks everyone. I am pretty happy with the build. The holster will fit in the back gusset pocket. I will make it so that it can fit in either direction, based on the side the case is carried on. There are actually magnets on the lid, to keep it closed, without actually locking the case. This will provide somewhat easier access.

As I watched the case come together, I got more excited as each step was completed. Truthfully, being my first case, it was twice as much time with thought process as hand work...... and there was a LOT of handwork, LOL. The front and back panels are hand stitched on twice. Each panel took well over 10 hours just for the attachment.

Thanks. ;) I have a couple of other items that Jim made for me and I knew if anybody could do what I wanted to my standards, it was him. Plus, his customer service is second to none. I'm really glad Jim took this project on. I'm incredibly pleased with how the case came out and can't wait see it in person!

Something I never say, but is very apt here: That is kittening BOSS! I have no need for a brief case, but after seeing that, all I'm trying to do is come up with a reason to get me a brief case and then have Jim make me a custom Indiana Jones hat to go with it.

Very much this.
I'd convince myself I need a briefcase just as an excuse to order one of these.

Velcro baby. If you look at the first picture of the interior, the black at the bottom of the rear compartment is a velcro strip. There are two of them that run horizontally across the rear pocket.

On the serious side, that is an awesome briefcase.

LMAO!!! Now that sounds like a project. Gator has really gone through the roof over the last year or so. Better go kill one and have it tanned. I may have to go into the fancy case business as a sideline ;)
