A cleric with ties to Ansar al Sunnah was recently indicted in Norway (Mullah Krekar). Ansar al Sunnah is an Al Qaeda affiliate operating in Northern Iraq, and was responsible for the 21 December 2004 suicide bombing on a US base in Mosul (FOB Marez). Bad dudes.

Of course, it could also be the work of left wingers, anarchists, etc.

Naw it'll be Muslim terrorists. Norway has done some good work in AFG too btw. I understand this is their very first terr attack. Not likely to be their last.

This is terrible.

I just hosted an old friend from Norway at my home last week, and we touched on the subject of terrorism and how Norway is one of he most politically neutral and inoffensive countries on the planet.

It seems that those who live to do evil may agree...and want to capitalize on the perception. That is to say, if you select peaceful Norway as the site to perform such wicked, cowardly and ugly deeds on its citizens, what citizens among the global community can consider themselves safe?

Europe is no longer European.

20 - 25 people shot along with the people killed from the bombing. http://www.ketknbc.com/news/update-possible-20-25-dead-in-norway-shooting-more-killed-in-bombing

It is rather odd that whomever lit off that bomb/bombs chose a public holiday when the buildings would be close to empty... Thousands would've been killed on a normal work day.

They have let a problem fester. But true to form, these idiots show their hand too early too weakly to finish. The 911 attacks destroyed decades of quiet and subtle jihad through our Middle East Studies departments of most major universities; quietly funded by deep Wahabi pockets for many many years to be sympathetic to the Muslim cause and hostile to Israel and the US. That bred our journalists and State Dept "experts". UBL blew up all that work in one day. The movement for quiet insidious infiltration was undermined by the lunatics that think they can win a punch out with Allah's help.

I hope that is the net of this sad day for Norway.

Malmo, Sweden has the same problem as discovered in the linked article.

Disgusting. Hang them in the streets.

Don't forget about all the crazy riots, thousands of cars burned and madness in France over the past couple of years with Muslims there either. Britian hasn't faired very well either, just look at the East End, it looks like the Middle East with all the Arabic writing and no indigenous Limeys to be seen anywhere.

I was just up in Canada not too long ago and many people I spoke to are now regretting their "open arms" philosophy that they used to espouse.

Actually, indications seem to be that the attack was more Oklahoma City Bombing than 9/11 with the perpetrator being a home grown nutjob.

Huh. Yeah, from the "oracle", Bill Roggio of Long War Journal: http://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2011/07/norwegian_police_dis.php

Apparently this guy has some manifesto online, where he calls Call of Duty a training-simulation.

Terrorists are terrorists, I suppose.

I've got a couple buddies on the island doing the search. They are feeling pretty awful right now.
It certainly is weird having only been there a year ago, wandering around Oslo visiting family and friends. Although I guess the same can be said for anywhere this kind of thing happens.

The death toll is remarkable. I heard a brief blurb on the news about a "logistics failure" on the part of the responders but the people on the news know as much about emergency response as they do about economics, law, or politics...which is to say absolutely nothing of consequence...so I take that with a bucket or two of salt.

What perplexes me is that you have a suspect who

Has no military background or formal training

Espouses nationalist Norwegian sentiments

and he manages to detonate an explosive device in Oslo and massacre 90+ innocents?

Am I the only one who thinks more than one person may have been involved here?

I read in the local paper that the SWAT team's chopper wasn't on call and they couldn't find a boat.

This is destined to generate as many conspiracy theories as OKC, but really, a truck bomb is not rocket surgery. People with no formal education outside of Koran memorization manage to set them off all the time.

Reading what's been released thus far, apparently the island was his real target and the VBIED was a distraction to tie first responders down elsewhere.

The thing that really chills me is that apparently this guy just roamed Camp Happy Time at will, shooting and reloading, for however long it took him to shoot all those people. *Brrrr!*

Richard Fernandez offers a chilling analysis of the shooter's manifesto. http://pajamasmedia.com/richardfernandez/2011/07/24/the-end-of-innocence/#comments

As was the pattern during the '70's "black terror" (from the right) is typically dramatically (and sadly) more efficient than "red" (left).
