Hello everyone! This is my first post, though I've been checking out the forum discussions for quite some time. I put together a brief review of my newly customized Kahr CM9 below.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just received my slide back from MOD1 Firearms (www.mod1firearms.com) and wanted to show off their work a bit. I'm very impressed with Pike and MOD1 as they did an outstanding job on the machining and Cerakote work. They added front serrations to the slide and then Cerakoted it and the slide stop lever graphite black. Prior to sending it in I rounded off the corners (dehorned) of the slide stop lever. I've also replaced the stock 6.5lb striker spring with a 5lb Wolff striker spring. This made the trigger pull a little lighter, making for an even more buttery smooth trigger pull. I added rubber Talon grips as well, which have been great in adding a super "sticky" purchase while handling and firing the weapon.

I carry this firearm everyday where it is legal to do so. I carry it appendix, inside the waistband (AIWB) and love it. I wear slimmer, fitted clothing and this firearm rarely prints at all, if ever. As far as holsters go, I've settled on the kydex AIWB holster from PJ Holster (http://pjholster.com/) and it's been perfect. I've also just recently ordered a mag carrier from PJ but have yet to receive it.

As far as the CM9's performance goes, it has been absolutely flawless through about 1,000 rounds of various types of 9mm ammo. I have loved learning to shoot it over the past 6 months and getting used to the long, smooth trigger pull. I trust this firearm with my life and would recommend the Kahr CM9 to anyone looking for a VERY concealable, sub-compact carry gun. There is quite a bit of negative press regarding Kahr, so I figured I'd share my completely positive experience.

I don't know why Kahr gets such bad press. I work in the QA dept for a company that manufactures some of the internals for Kahr and from the prints I've seen and product I've handled they seem to be a quality company.

I think my experience with Kahr pistols may be fairly representative if you believe anything you read on the internet: Hero or Zero.

Since I'm no engineer, I'm clueless as to whether the disparity in performance from gun to gun is a problem in the design or the execution. The half-dozen or so guns that I have first hand experience with were pretty much all or nothing and I can't say that I've experienced that - with such prevalence - with any other brand.

I have one good sampling (PM9), so I'm holding on to it.

Great looking CM. I personally have carried PM9 for 5+ yrs and absolutely love it. Great little gun. From my experience due to its size new shooters just not able to hold it properly and thus it creates a problem they report.

Have you taken it through any classes? What drills have you shot and what were the times/scores?

I run self defense drills every other week on my own, though have never competed with it. I'd like to take it through a handgun combat class at some point though.

What classes would you recommend for ultra compact pocket 9mm semi auto? What drills would you recommend and what is par accuracy/time?

Nice looking gun.

I don't think the size or type of gun being used makes a difference on which classes to take. Take all the same ones you would take with a full size gun. Same goes for which drills to shoot.

Here is a good place to start on drills.

If you haven't taken a class before, or haven't taken too many, I'd recommend a basic firearms class with a local instructor. If you're unsure if they're any good, you can always ask here. After you've taken a few days of classes then these two would probably be good ideas. They would be considered "advanced", so just be sure you have your handling squared away first:

I'd probably recommend classes geared towards the mission of that particular firearm, which I'll assume is for concealed carry. I have not taken the particular class, but I have received training from this instructor before:

I'm taking the Shivworks ECQC class later this year, and will be taking my Kahr PM9 or Glock 19:

With regards to drills, Dot Torture (http://pistol-training.com/drills/dot-torture) at 3 yards would be a place to start. If your range doesn't allow you to draw, just pick the pistol off the bench when the COF calls for a draw. Most ranges don't care about mag pouches, but if they do, you can just stick the spare mag into the corner of your jeans pocket.

Shoot a Dot Torture with your new Kahr, then again with whatever you usually shoot, and share the pics with us.

I don't know why Kahr gets such bad press.

Like most, they've had sporadic QC issues. I recollect a run of barrels with bad peening issues on the locking edge of the barrel hood back in '05 or so.

I've had three PM9s, only one of them worked, and it's VERY picky about what JHPs it will feed. Kahr has poor CS on top of this QC issues.

Kahrs have a poor reputation in some circles for very good reasons.

I've seen a two year old Kahr CM9 recently with around 1,000 rounds down the tube with some significant deformation of the front portion of the barrel hood.

I've seen a recoil spring fall apart on the CM9 series during range drills.

I've seen 2 examples of guns in recent years that would not fire in cold weather (and you could feel they would barley fire at room temperature) due to not having enough material removed from the frame to clear the trigger bar.

Last summer I purchased a Kahr PM9 for summer/pocket carry. After following their break in recommendation, I shot another 200-300 rounds thru the gun. It ran just fine, but still felt very "Rough" in operation. The slide would hang up on the barrel hood/chamber.

After carrying the gun and shooting it sporadically, it was time for a cleaning. It was during the cleaning and inspection that I noticed a small deformation on the front portion of the barrel as well. The gun was later traded at a local shop.
