So, how do you fix the White House fence jumping? Add more fences, for a total of 4 rows.

"Fence jumper" is racist, classist, and culturalist. The politically correct term is "undocumented visitor".

I'd be kind of cool to see some track hurdler come and sprint across the 3 short fences.

Intelligence reports have indicated that Kenya is now a hot-spot for terrorist recruiting.

Mr. President, the "optics", as you like to refer to them, are terrible here. It makes us look bush league.

You know in the history books they say people were allowed to walk freely into the White House, or along the grounds until right before the twentieth century. During WWII they completed the fence around the property. During Vietnam they put in a larger fence. Until the 1980s you could drive along the streets near the White House.

I fear that eventually even seeing the White House outside of a special tour will be a thing of the past.

The same thoughts have crossed my mind in the past few days after hearing about these fences. I understand the rationale, doesn't mean I have to like it.

Just look at this picture from 1979:

A different world indeed.

I don't even understand the rationale at all. They will throw fences up to prevent obvious attacks but people can walk right into a party and shake the President's hand if you are dressed right.

And lets not even talk about the millions of dollars in cost that every trip that a President makes, many of which are due to security costs.

Remember that this is Washington...home of political theater where being seen to do "something" is often considered to be more important than actually doing something effective. Which might explain a lot of our foreign policy for the last 6 years, if you think about it...

I used to think movies like White House Down were stupid but fun. Nowadays, a troop of disguised Boy Scouts could pull it off.
