Week 92: Finding Your Level designed by CCT125US
results may be posted until 11:59pm EST on Monday 22-September-2014.

Thanks to CCT125US for providing the first drill for DotW 2.0. This drill should provide a good starting point for performance tracking (level 1 doesn't require a shot timer), which I thought was very helpful since I'd like to see some newer shooters get involved in the DotW.

Range: 5yd
Target: Shape Target V4 MOD (attached)
Start position: varies
Rounds fired: 10

This drill is designed to improve shooter accuracy and speed. Shapes can be shot in any order.
You will need a shot timer for levels 2-4
When you can shoot a level clean, twice in a row, it is time to increase difficulty.
When a shooter cleans level 4 twice, increase rd per shape by 1.

Please see the target for a further description of the various Levels.

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:

level attempted
pistol and holster used (if applicable)
Hits for each shape

Please feel free to report multiple runs/advancing in levels.

Training with firearms is an inherently dangerous activity. Be sure to follow all safety protocols when using firearms or practicing these drills. These drills are provided for information purposes only. Use at your own risk.

Level 1, Gen 3 Glock 17. All hits. Clean 1st run, 2nd run I had 1 shot just touching line on last shot. Probably a pass. Ran it 2 more times with all hits.

Level 2, Gen 3 Glock 17. 16/20 hits on 2 runs. Ran it again with similar results. Had a little trigger snatching and a few just over time. Work to do.

I can't imagine passing level 3 or 4. :)

Since I was low on time and ammo, I didn't work my way up, I just started by taking a stab at Level 4.

Level 4, two attempts

Gen3 G34 in a Keeper concealed under a polo shirt

First run hits were:

1” square: 1/2
2” circle: 3/3
3” square: 3/4
4” circle: 4/5

Second run hits were:

1” square: 2/2
2” circle: 3/3
3” square: 4/4
4” circle: 5/5

Started on Level 3 yesterday evening, but I was unsatisfied with my grip work, which was a recurring theme throughout the evening. Piss poor.

Pistol was Glock 17 Gen 4 in a JM Custom Kydex AIWB holster.

Here's how I did.

Level 3

Target 1- 1.84 / 2.24 (fumbled draw)

Target 2- 2.17 MISS / 3.39 (fumbled draw)

Target 3- 2.22 / 2.38

Target 4- 2.47 / 2.28

Fred, I am hoping to shoot this later on, if things work out. You reported time but not hits. I want to make sure I am not confused -- I thought the times are fixed and we are only counting hits per run?

I didn't have a lot of time, but I shot this today.

Ran level 1 clean twice.

Jumped to level 3, 18/20 for the two runs, with the two barely out -- but out.

Glock 17, open carry, way under time.

Didn't get to level 4 as I had to much else going on. Level 4 seems hard.

This seems like a very good drill to benchmark your performance, and evaluate pistols, with the one caveat that 5 yards may allow you to get away with a target focus that might not fly farther away.

Had a couple of old .22s at the range yesterday.

Bernardelli Model 60 in .22lr. Level 1 clean one time.

Llama .22 Level 2 almost clean. The 1" square continues to be my downfall. :( Well within the times. ;)

All hits except for a mike on target 2, 1st attempt, as well as blowing it on the second try with an atrocious grip.

Target 2- 2.17 MISS / 3.39 (fumbled draw)

Level 4 two runs 26/28

Worked my way up starting at level 2. Passed the first run at level 4 and sent rounds high on both the 2" and 4" circles on the second attempt. First run hits are marked in red.

Glock 17

Started with level 1 as a warm up and because I haven't had much practice recently. After cleaning level 1, I failed level 2 twice by missing the 1" square with lots of time left each time, so I spent the rest of a very short practice session working through anticipation issues.

Level 1 passed

Level 2 failed first run passed second run - went over on time on the 1" square

Level 3 failed went over on time prioritized getting hits also had failure to feed with 1 Mecgar practice mag it was filth with desert sand and grit. Follower was sticking and slide closed on round entering chamber at 45 degree angle.
