I am working on doing Leathams drill where you fire 10rounds on target in 3.0 or less and I am at the 7yd line. I am using a VTAC A zone as the area (both top/bottom) to shoot within thought the majority of my rounds stay in the top box. Today I cleaned the time but threw one round (2.97). I cannot seem to shoot it clean and under time however. Give me your thoughts on what to improve upon. Here are the numbers from my last run, which was clean but over time:
#1 1.27
#2 1.49 .22split
#3 1.72 .23split
#4 1.91 .19split
#5 2.13 .22split
#6 2.33 .20split
#7 2.55 .22split
#8 2.77 .22split
#9 2.00 .23split
#10 3.22 .22split

This is using a Glock 22 with 165grain Fed practice rounds from OWB ALS 6390 holster with surefire light on the gun from a ready position similiar to what Leatham is using in the video (hands up, shoulder width apart, with hands by my head). My take is that my initial shot is too slow from the holster and that I need more consistent splits. Thanks in advance.

draw -- I always need a sub 1.0 to do a sub 2.0 Bill.

I agree about the draw being the part where you can save the most time. Regardless, it sounds to me like you are doing quite well. But to improve, I would look at the draw first and the splits second.

I see your problem.
You went back in time for shot #9, and then had a 1.22 split.

Stop violating the laws of space-time and you'll be fine.

I love space-time!

Ha on the space time, my bad. On the draw I have much work to do.

Like I said, I think you are already doing very strongly. 10 shots in 3 seconds on that target is basically the equivalent of a 2 second Bill Drill (6 shots), which is traditionally considered a benchmark of Master Class performance in competitive shooting. I know you want to do better, and the draw is the standout fruit to pick. 1.27 first shot is far from being a slouch - that is really good.

I think my draw speed is fine, it's more picking up the front sight that I'm struggling with. I'm using Glock night sights, and in the bright sun today I was getting a flash off the front sight that was a bit of a distraction initially. I think I'm going to try my other pistol with HD's and see if that helps.

Sounds like some dryfire and getting your sights aligned at extension along with a clean trigger break might help there.

Splits like that with a G22 are pretty sporty, and I would consider those splits pretty consistent. Need to get your draw down to 1 sec, that is usally the key to these Bill Drill type stuff. Hands to the gun fast and picking up the front sight "early" will help with draw speed, work on picking up the sights as they reach the crotch of the target and break the shot as soon as it comes up into the desired target area, unless you do a push out then I have no clue.

I had missed the ALS and G22 part. Those are fine times. Want better, shoot a 9, different holster and FO sights. Chasing split times when you shoot so well now seems a waste of time and ammo that could better be spent on other parts of your shooting. Best way for me to improve splits is forget about them, as tension slows me down.

You should be able to get a sub 1 draw at 7 yards from an ALS. Dry-practice, think of your fingers as touching a hot stove, shrug your shoulders a tad..be relaxed, minimize extra movement, whatever...but you should be able to get that down.

Your aim doesn't need to be much at 7 yards. Your too close for that.. Index, blob of gun, "see what you need to see" kind of stuff.

Those splits are pretty slow that close... Learning how to go that fast is a skill all by itself. Remove the accuracy requirement and work on moving the trigger "that fast." Bill Drill into the berm. Watch the gun, work the trigger. When you can get your splits with no accuracy requirement into the teens (.17, .18, .19ish) then add accuracy. Blast away and see what you get, turn it up or down to see what is needed.

Sometimes you just have to color outsides the lines.

I see an "ah ha" moment in your future. Enjoy!

Thanks for all the advice. I will be working dry fire stuff this weekend and live fire next week.

I worked on the "berm drill" today. Draw was under 1 second with my Glock 23 and ALS holster. Splits were running right at .20 with one string bouncing back between .19 and .20. I tried different trigger techniques as in reset and Leathams slap. The reset was working pretty good for me. Having said that I'm going to work on hand strength to improve splits, as currently I don't feel like I can pull the trigger any faster, regardless of if I'm worried about hits or not. Thanks again for the ideas.
