Good stuff and thanks for posting.

I do a lot of traveling up to Canada eh? and often wonder about the specific hoops you have to jump through. This makes it all crystal clear.

Good video, with the exception of that shirt.

So is there a good place/video that discusses the issues of civilian use of force in Canada?

I have always been under the understanding that although the average Canadian can get a hold of many of the same firearms we can enjoy in the US (as long as they are willing to put up with all the BS) - their ability to use them to protect themselves, even against wild animals, is extremely limited?

Also, the only places I have been that have gun stores easily found is out West in places like Saskatoon (actually going there tonight) - is gun ownership much higher in the western provinces as one would suspect? Is it virtually nil in Quebec?

Every Canadian case (that I know of) involving the use of a firearm for self defense has resulted in a charge against the victim.

I have noted recently that some of those charges have not resulted in a conviction, but that was at huge financial cost to the victim.

Quebec has a huge firearms owning population, until recently though they have been very quiet.
Not all uses of firearms by civilians in defence of life against another human result in charges against the shooter. Most yes, but not all.

Oh, and yeah, Rod's shirt, we gave him gears about it at the meeting that night too lol

Ah, I thought that was, like, the national dress or something. You know, like kilts or kimonos. ;)

Personally, I prefer kaftans.

They are very slimming. Especially the ones with little maple leafs on them.

Lots of good stuff in here! Thanks for the link.

The data in it is a little dated, how much do you think things have changed? Has gun ownership gone up or down in your estimations?

Black rifles and handgun sales in Canada have definitely taken off; gun ownership in general may not have changed much but the average age is probably getting lower and the number of guns per owner is definitely increasing.

In short I'd say the same thing is happening in Canada that I believe is happening in the US, just on a smaller scale. Whereas at one time it was mostly older guys in rural areas with wood-and-steel sporting guns, it's slowly concentrating, urbanizing, and tacticloling.

I think total gun owning people in Canada may be climbing, slowly. We are seeing hunters dropping out of the sport, and tons of new owners jumping in. At our club, the 800 member increase we've seen in the last 3 years (from 289 members at the start of our reno that added 3 new outdoor ranges and reno'd the indoor as well) has been about 70% new gun owners if the info we get is correct (we ask them when they get a membership). We are sitting at 1100 members now and have 500 on the wait list. But 1100 is our cap, unless we vote to increase it by 100 in July. We are also adding about 100-150 a month to the list.
