Ok so I just got virtually unlimited access to my buddy's 500 acre farm.

We go shooting out there frequently.

He's all for me setting up targets and such.

I'm not a rich man, but I don't think you have to be to set up some budget targets, and frames for them.

Here's what we're working with and this first .gif makes it look WAY farther than we are. Wide angle GoPro makes it look like 50 yards, more like 20 (I've also got some great Vids in slo-mo showing excessive recoil but let's please save that for another thread).

I think this range would impress any ISSF member.

This little iron target is pretty fun. Also the beer cans are pretty damn fun as well. Challenging. I'd like to get 2 of the owner's old barrels down there with a sturdy wood plank.

So any tips tricks ideas would be awesome. We mostly shoot pistols, but have some guys with ARs, shotguns, and rifles, and well, all kinds come out, but want to focus on pistols.

These are looking like something I'm talking about. I also like the targets that go "Ping!" I believe that's the technical term.

2x4 and PVC pipe can be your friend when building budget stands. Not sure where to get cheap steel, but you should probably figure out a way to angle and plates down to better direct projectiles.

Containment.
Each target array should have a berm designed to keep projectiles from escaping the property.

Wideners has AR500 steel targets that are affordable and hold up. I purchased three a few years ago for my club and they are still in use.

So I checked out some of those 3/8" targets, which I think is ok for 9mm rounds. But is 100 yards really necessary? That's the warning. I'm doubting I could even hit it at that distance.

The 100-yard caution is for rifle cartridges. You can shoot AR500 steel with pistol ammo as close as 8 yards.

So does the thickness matter?

I use 1/2" AR500 for rifles and 3/8" for pistols. Have several steel target setups that I take in the local national forest to shoot. My targets are from Big Dog Steel. Check out their 45% IPSC targets. Similar to the MGM B/C zone but a lot cheaper. They ship in a flat rate box and really help save on shipping costs.

Tac Strike has steel targets that ship in flat-rate, USPS Priority boxes that are very reasonable. I just built some target stands and VTAC barriers for my PD out of 2x4s and plywood. Spent about $150 for 15 stands, 2 barriers, and furring strips. I'll try to posts some pics, I shamelessly stole the stand idea/plans from Chief Weems.

I have both 3/8" and 1/2" at 100 yards. Both have been shot with everything short of .50 BMG. I have two 3/8" at 25 yards that are for pistol caliber only and aside from a .30 caliber hole, from something other than a pistol, are holding up fine.

Ok so I purchased 6 targets from this place http://shootingtargets7.com/

The owner said that the 3/16ths would be just fine for 9mm and if I didn't like them, to send him back and he'd give a full refund.

I added it all up plus shipping and it was 96.00 buckaroos.
