Seems like a metal framed PX4 in some ways.

What sucks about it? Any high round count ones? Does it use Beretta M9 magazines?

The mag catch notch is higher on a 9mm Cougar than on a 92 magazine, at least it was when the Cougar was under the Beretta name.

Well, it's a design that was a sales flop when it was sold by Beretta and so they sent the tooling to their Turkish subsidiary...

The cougar that I had was simply unreliable. I had major fail to feed problems and fail to eject issues.

The PX4s I use are all reliable pistols.

There are some differences between the two pistols despite conventional wisdom telling us that they are exactly the same. The cam block, recoil spring, barrel, slide, not to mention magazine are all different.

Some of the people who did buy it were LE agencies...and they had a devil of a time with it. I had dinner with one of the top trainers from a relatively large agency that bought Cougars and he couldn't even say the word "Beretta" without clenched teeth.

Which is pretty soft shooting for a .45.

I had an 8357, in .357 SIG. It had excellent ergonomics, was compact, and seemingly made of high quality materials and very nicely finished. Unfortunately, it was not reliable (extraction/ejection issues), and was subject to seizing up after some 100+ rounds had gone down the pipe. No matter how much I wanted to like it, at the end of the day, I simply couldn't trust it. It went away...

Best, Jon

FTE's soak up a lotta recoil impulse.

You know I have an 8045 (many thanks to Brad in Texas), in fact the only one in Canada as they are forbidden up here due to barrel length (mine is the long barreled one for CHP or something), and when shooting it side by side with a 1911 in 45 I actually preferred how the 1911 soaked up recoil.

So they work better as impact weapons rather than firearms.

Seems legit. Thanks for the responses.

It only counts as a failure if there are still more Eco-terrorists left.

I honestly can't figure out if that Tom Clancy reference was intentional or not.

I can't remember which book it was but I'll totally admit it was a Tom Clancy book that got me interested Cougars (phrasing).

Totally intentional. In just finished re-reading Rainbow Six a week ago.

Let's be honest, everyone does.

To this day I am proud of myself for never pestering FBI SWAT guys to play with their MP-10s out on the range when they'd come in to practice. That took about as much gun nerd self-control as I have. :o

I don't have much use for 10mm, but one of those guns in the Navy configuration fills me with 10mm lust that would make Robb Allen blush.

We have a local agency that went for the MP-10.

I've been known to do the math on my odds of getting issued one if I abandoned my current career and applied to that organization.

Still haven't made a final decision.

Abby has the 40S&W ones, they are fun, but not like a 10mm would be

The Stoeger Cougar is an excellent pistol. Mine has been flawless for three years and hundreds of rounds. The posts and reviews on the internet overwhelmingly are positive. Don't let the small percentage of detractors sway you from what is an outstanding firearm. Just dig around on the internet. ; )
