Anybody here have time on a Dell XPS 13?
I'm particularly interested in the Developer edition (http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/xps-13-linux/pd) pre-loaded with Ubuntu Linux 12.04 LTS (which I would upgrade to 14.04 LTS).
Particularly interested in how it compares to a Macbook Air in size and build quality.

Any other recommendations for Ubuntu Ultrabooks? Maybe System76 (https://www.system76.com/laptops/model/galu1)?

Nice how they're integrating the touchscreen finally.

I have the Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition and it is a pretty good machine. In comparison to the Macbook Air, it is little smaller on one of the sides and it feels a little heavier. The screen is clean and crisp at the native resolution. My only complaint is that the wireless is a little flaky but I am not sure if it is because of 12.04 or the hardware. I get random wireless disconnects/reconnects during some sessions but others are just fine. I am chalking it up to new hardware on an old kernel and general "Ubuntu sucks when it comes to managing wireless". I am not a Linux guru by any stretch but I am looking forward to upgrading to 14.04 and see if that fixes that issue.

I already have a 13" MB-Air.
I'm looking for a 13"ish Ubuntu machine and installing Ubuntu on a MBA is a PITA.

Why are you adverse to using VMs again?

Mainly peripheral support. USB accessories rarely work in VM's in my experience.
