Saw both this afternoon while walking the dog in the impound yard.

A Bald Eagle being harassed by a smaller bird I could not identify:

Forgot to mention that what inspired me to dig out the camera was having a pair of hawks buzz me in the yard, one screaming overhead as the other flew just out of reach to my left with what could only be identified as a piece of bloody meat in its talons. I think I am going to need to get some better long range equipment if I am going to get any decent shots of soaring birds.

One of a pair of Ospreys that were hanging out on a cell tower.

The Ospreys are back and have nested in the cell tower and this immature Bald Eagle sometimes likes to hang out.

Thanks for the pictures, they are very well done.

I have a cell tower about 75 yards from my back door. There was an osprey nest in that tower several years ago, but an owl family moved in about five years ago. The owls were there for one season and trashed the nest and it fell out of the tower. The osprey's still perch on the tower, but haven't rebuilt the nest. The county has put platforms on several phone/power line poles in the area specifically for the osprey's and there are several osprey nests in the area.

The school across the street has quite a few Live Oak trees that are favorites of some hawks. I'm not much of a bird expert, but I've been quite surprised at how low the hawks stay vs. the higher flying of the osprey's. I used to walk my dog at the school and the first time seeing out of the corner of my eye, a big hawk flying under the tree canopy was quite startling.

My hobby is radio-controlled model planes. One genre I fly is electric sailplanes; essentially a soaring glider with a small electric motor and folding prop in the nose, used to get the thing to altitude instead of needing a glider tug or winch hi-start. Once "up", you kill the motor, the prop folds back, and you glide around to your heart's content.

Two weeks ago, I was soaring around at 500 feet or so, looking for thermals. and a big hawk swooped in and flew formation with me for about five minutes. He was definitely checking the model out, as he got right up to it and I could see his head moving about as he looked at it. This model has a six-foot wingspan, although its skinny, etc. The hawk apparently decided the model was not suitable groceries and no threat, and eventually he peeled off and disappeared. But he stayed right with me the whole time; I made some sharp aileron turns, and then dropped about fifty feet quickly via deploying spoilerons… didn't faze him a bit.

That was just too cool. They are indeed amazing critters.

A couple of years ago some buddies of mine and me did a 3 day canoe trip on the Allegheny River from Kinzua Dam to Tionesta. We saw many eagles on that trip. I'm really glad I had my camera. Eagles have made a huge comeback in this area in the last 10 years.

Not sure what bird this is.

The lower one looks like an eagle, a Golden. Around here, the Bald Eagles hang around the water more, the Goldens hunt the land more. They overlap their areas though.

Sorry for the crappy drive by cell phone pic out the driver window, but we saw this on the way to the LGS today. This is just outside of Bowling Green, KY. Never saw one in the wild before...still gives me goosebumps.

One of the highlights of our summer family trip was watching several species of eagles fish the marina area at Neah Bay, WA. There were at least 15 of them - bald, golden, and another large variety. I could have watched them all day. Magnificent indeed.

My last vacation trip, I drove out to Hole in the Wall in Wyoming (yes it is a real place, wild bunch and other outlaws hid there). Saw this guy watching the brood (while his mate was out getting food?)...nest is in a dead cottonwood in the middle of a large pond.

This page has an embedded Facebook video making the rounds. Close up of a bald eagle grabbing a fish some guys laid out for him:

https://www.foxnews.com/great-outdoors/bald-eagle-steals-fishermans-first-catch-in-incredible-up-close-video

I appreciate the cautious approach ("is this a trap?") and then quick snatch. Looks like he is wearing a red band/tag on his right ankle.

One summer I was at lake Couer d Alene with my wife and kids and watching them swim from the cabin deck. I heard a rush of wings and a bald eagle landed in a tree about 15 feet away looking at me. He let me admire him for a couple minutes and flew off. Not only did he know he was cool, he knew he was king of his particular domain - no fear.

If it ever makes sense to grab some land it would be tempting to take up falconry.

Just noticed this thread. I was opening the garage door and two doves flew past in at about 4 feet off the ground, going fast. Behind them was a hawk on afterburners. It caught one and went straight up into the sky. The other dove keep on its level path. There was a burst of feathers on the ground in front of the garage. I've seen the same hawk blazing down the middle of the street.

I've also found a whole pile of feathers in the backyard and wondered why. Now I'm pretty sure it was the hawk catching a dove.

We also have a great old owl that visits the trees and hoots away at night. He also visits our local trail. Neat bird to see.

Just found this for the first time. My late wife was a Master Falconer and flew Redtails for years. I still hang with the local falconers.

So a few years ago the laws changed, and now tribal members may now posses a eagle or parts of the eagle for ceremonial or religious use. So my tribe has a list and when one comes available from the National repository, you can get an eagle.
So his came with a permit, and when he dies it has to go to his tribal member descendant. His eagle died from natural causes. And is worshipped daily
