View Full Version : Streamlight TLR-1/2 remote for HK P30: anyone interested?

For many, Streamlight's TLR series is in the Goldilocks zone of rail-mountable light and light/laser units: good build quality, good performance, well-known & reputable manufacturer, and they aren't burdened with SureFire's premium pricing. The TLR-1 HL and TLR-2 HL bring a 630 lumen LED to the fight, both strobe-capable with a double-tap on the on-switch. The TLR-2 adds a red laser in an extension of the aluminum housing, below the light common to both models.

I recently picked up a TLR-2 for defensive use, and for night shoots at classes and special events. The one thing that was bugging me was that Streamlight not only doesn't make a "contour remote" for the HK P30, they've said they have no plans to do so. When I saw a G17-type remote switch pop up as a discounted "like new" item on Amazon, I grabbed it thinking I'd try modifying it to fit the P30. I worked on it this past weekend, and here's the functional prototype which was the result:

https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3777/13302498175_1ef6375918.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/mguMfP)

I think the prototype looks and works quite well, and it functions perfectly when mounted to a TLR-2 on a P30. However, it was a fair bit of skilled work to get it just right, and it left me wondering whether there would be interest in either a modification service (e.g. you supply me with G17 switch, I send back P30/P30L compatible switch) or simply buying pre-fitted remote switches directly from yours truly. This light/switch configuration fits perfectly into my new JM Custom Kydex OWB light-bearing holster, despite the fact that Tony didn't have the custom switch unit to work with when molding the holster, so I'm cautiously hopeful that it'll work equally well in other light-bearing holsters.

I'd run a poll, but those are annoyingly limiting. Here's what I'd like to know if people are interested in, keeping in mind that the "contour" remote switch ONLY works with the Streamlight TLR-1 and TLR-2 series lights:

Mounted to:
(A) P30/P30L
(B) HK45/HK45T
(C) HK45C/HK45CT

Logistics options:
(1) You send me the appropriate Streamlight switch (e.g. model 69300 for GL 17/19/22/23) and receive it back hand-fitted to your HK model
(2) I source the appropriate Streamlight switch for you and ship it to you hand-fitted to your HK model

Based on the time and care required for the process, and the possibility that I'll have to eat the cost of the occasional switch unit which doesn't survive the modification process, I'm thinking $25 including return shipping seems fair.

This is not a solicitation for business. I'm just gauging interest and looking for feedback, not taking orders or selling services at this time.

Are you limiting the interest guage to P30/HK45?
The contour switch being only available for Glock/M&P from Streamlight, I think there are a multitude of weapons that this could work on. The potential of this option definitely ups my interest in a P2000 or FNS, for example.

How does the switch work.

Does it work both laser and light?

Not by choice but I have a TLR-1 on my P30S V3 9mm!

I wanted the Inforce APLto work out . But it doesn't have a further adjustment. And when mounted has back and forth play on my rail that can cause it to poop off with hardly any force at all!

I hope soon surefire will make a compact light or Inforce will add a adjustable mount to the APL.

Have you took apart the TLR bezel and looked inside? I seems so fragile and no wonder it has a low water proof rating. .

If anyone cares, Surefire X300/X400 with DG11 (Glock 17) switch fits perfectly on a HK P30.

I got my holster last month . I happen to like it. and that's rare. I'm pretty picky.

Its based off Tony/JM V3 IWB !

But with some changes.

Able to fit TLR-1 300lumen
Pull Dot loops - instead of kydex loop
Straight Drop - instead of it canted. ( hate canted IWB holster for compact pistols)

Its to bad because I would of order the TLR-1HL but it wasn't listed on his website!

Do you know if the 1-HL is the same size as the TLR-1? it look longer in pictures?

I'd want at least 2-3 reliable prospective buyers per platform so I didn't lose money buying a blue gun to use for fitment, but sure, I'd be glad to give it a try on models other than the guns listed. Pretty sure the P2000/P2000SK would be good to go, no idea on the FN guns. I'll test-fit the P30 switch to one of the rental P2000's at the range tomorrow to see if it's a good match with no changes.

The main question in doing this for other guns is a mismatch between the min/max lengths of the available Glock or M&P switch units vs. the trigger guard on the new gun. The ribbon-cable connection between the switch and the body of the flashlight precludes an easy lengthening of the switch body beyond what you see in the pictures, as I can't just splice in some extra wire.

How does the switch work.

Does it work both laser and light?

The remote switch works exactly the same as the momentary switch on the body of the flashlight. Press-and-hold for continuous operation, tap-and-hold for strobe. If you have the mode switch on the TLR-2 set for light+laser, for example, that's what you get when you press the remote switch.

The HL version of the TLR has the same dimensions as earlier non-HL units. I have a TLR-2 HL and it fits just fine in the OWB holster Tony made to the TLR-2 spec.

Have you tried both sets of mounting rails along with the cross bolt? Once I adjusted the initial tension on my unit (installed on P30L) it's been rock solid while remaining easy to unmount/mount.

I tried the 1913 , Beretta , GLK.

The Beretta fit perfect on the rail without adjusting the screw any. But sat to close to the trigger guard and interfered with the switch.

So I used the 1913 it fits but has play ? Until I tighten the screws . Same with the G key also.

I think its my pistol because the APL and TLR-1 fit as the should on my KAC RAS

I've been thinking of a green laser light for my P30S.

Could be the pistol I guess. Either way, it's odd.

Thanks for this tidbit!

I really like my Inforce APL on my P30L but really want a better activation method, not that the APL's is bad, it's actually really nice.

As mentioned, I considered the Surefire options but went with Streamlight given the substantial price difference.

I just confirmed that my modified TLR remote switch works fine on the P2000 if you swap out the 1913 key for a smaller one.

Note, however, that you need to take finger pressure off the switch to allow it to flex down ~5mm when working the mag release. I didn't have any trouble while dry-firing the P2000 and removing/reinserting the mag, just thought I'd mention it.

TL;DR: P2000 good to go.

It's not exactly "perfect", but it's damn close:

Sadly, the setup doesn't work so well for the P2000 series, due to the way the magazine release works; it'll fit on just fine, but it will interfere with your ability to use the magazine release, since it's got the connecting piece that runs under the trigger guard, and thus the DG switch winds up pushing up against that connecting piece and keeping you from easily pushing the release all the way down.

Thank you
I've been thinking of a green laser light for my P30S.
The X400U-GNs should be floating around now. Should. I managed to score two (manufacture date 2014-02) from the LGS, but I don't see any online vendors with any. The visibility truly is amazing, though, compared to my original X400.

Understood from the beginning that this would be an individual "maybe yes/maybe no" thing.

That is some sweetness right there on that P30! <drool>
I definitely need (actually, my bank account needs) to stop looking at threads like this as I'm trying to focus on software instead of hardware, but "dayum!" I really "need" this setup!

Folks, if you would like to discuss the Surefire products, please start a new thread in which to do so. I started this discussion specifically to discuss Streamlight products and assess interest in fitting them to unsupported pistols.

Thank you.

Do you still have remote for HK45?
