The Dan Wesson 715 revolver is slated to be reintroduced in 2014. Thoughts?

I had an older DW briefly - after 25 years of shooting Rugers and Smiths the cylinder latch just didn't work for me. The lack of grip options is a second complication...

And I REALLY wanted to love that gun.

Hurray! Now maybe I can get some replacement barrels and shrouds without paying an arm and a leg for them.

I have a completely irrational grudge against DW revolvers because about once every few months some Cletus would drag in a more-or-less complete Pistol Pac to sell with the expectation that he had some priceless treasure. Do you have any idea how long one of those things can sit on consignment?

When I was a kid there was one of those pistol packs in the case with all of the barrels on sale at a local store. I used to oogle that every time I was in there. Wanted it badly I did, thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen.

I made the mistake of buying one of those a long time ago. Mine was a complete POK (piece of kitten).

Had a Model 15 myself briefly back in the early '90s. Can't say I miss it very much, either.

Yes, mine was the Model 15 of course, not the 715.

Sooo... I am not gonna lie, this takes the wind out of my sails a little bit. On the other hand, I saved a ton of money by switching to Ruger?

I had a stainless DW 44mag (744?) back in 1989. Can't say I miss it.

Is there anything in particular that was an issue with the Dan Wesson 744? I'm not very familiar with them, but I do want a big .44 Mag wheelgun to shoot often.

I would look at Ruger.

No horror story. The trigger wasn't very good plus even back the. support and spare barrels were problematic. I traded it for a Glock 17 (Gen 1) and some cash. A few years later I picked up a 6" Colt Anaconda which I SERIOUSLY regret selling. Anaconda prices have gotten ridiculous so I would second the Ruger recommendation.

My very first handgun was a blued 4" DW. I remember it being stupid accurate. But $1168.00 for a stainless 6" trip down memory lane ain't gonna happen.

I just cannot get over the "we're different for no good reason cylinder latch on the DW guns. Colt, Ruger and S&W all have the latches in the same place. Don't be different.

For me, the unforgivable sin is that they priced it in line with a Smith and Wesson AND gave it that crappy latch.

Also, they are ugly. In my opinion, they look European, which may be a compliment for a semi auto, but is the reverse for a wheelie.

I never thought of it as a big deal...just hit it with the thumb as your left hand goes to open the cylinder. Of course, this was way before I knew anything about one-handed manipulations and whatnot. The only thing caveat back in the day was if you used a break-front duty holster it would open the latch for you on the draw!

What year did it come out ? I was thinking in the early 80`s . I thought the idea was cool. snub or hunter.

Not many DW fans on the site.
My Dad had a Dan Wesson 22. About a year ago, I brought it home. It had a 6" Vented bbl on it which I really didn't care for. So, I called DW and they made me a new 4" VH bbl and shroud. I think it took about three weeks and about $200. I didn't think that was bad. Fun gun to plink with....jkm

While I personally didn't warm up to the first iteration, I do recall them being extremely accurate. A buddy of mine had a .44 Magnum that would almost shoot through the same hole inside of 50 yards if you could do your part. I also seem to recall that being one of the first handguns that utilized a lot of MIM technology.
