A cardiac device manufacturer was close to inking a deal on a manufacturing facility in the north east to produce pacemakers and similar devices, as well as leads for them. Then Obamacare passed, which taxes the manufacture of medical devices like pacemakers and artificial joints in addition to the usual corporate taxes. They're opening the plant in China now.

To the best of my knowledge the major recalls relevant to cardiac devices and leads have come because of slipshod manufacture overseas.

We stand on the verge of medical breakthroughs advanced enough that the mind boggles at the very suggestion...and on seeing it go to crap because we're fouling the fundamental economics of medical science to the point where none of the knowledge can actually impact the lives of people who need it.
