With or without a Crimson Trace attached if it makes a difference?

DeSantis Nemesis.
I've tried them all from high dollar horsehide to cheap nylon, the cheap Nemesis is hard to beat.

After I wore out my last Mika, I got one of these from Scott at RKBA Holsters:

They are very well made, and I have both a LH and RH model.

For the price and availability I guess I'll try the Nemesis out for now and keep an eye on other suggestions.

I'll plus one the Nemesis. One of the things I like about it is the ability to wash it in the sink with some soapy water. I wear that holster frequently on hot summer days when I get sweaty and the holster can get FUNKY.

Also use a Nemesis from time to time. Had a no-name but well specified and well made custom leather pocket wedge made by a local someplace I was at once upon a time that worked very well, but passed it along with the weapon to someone that needed it more than I did at the moment. Tried a thin kydex shell, but did not like that at all. The Nemesis just works, doesnt require much thought, and stays in the pocket when one needs to draw. Of course, reholstering as with any pocket holster is to remove from pocket then replace entire assembly, but for a BUG its a small issue.

Still using a Mika.

Have used leather from Lou Alessi and PCS, nylon from DeSantis, Uncle Mike's and others, and the Mika is the best-overall by being both stable and non-bulky.

Uncle Mikes #4, if I remember they recommend a #3 but the 4 works better. I also have a Rosen and an Andrews but the #4 UM does not get stuck on the pistol and is less bulky.

I always heard rave reviews about MIKA but the one example I had was loose as a goose and very bulky. It felt like I had a pillow wrapped around the gun. It was culled with prejudice.

I use a TT Gunleather pocket holster for my LCP. I designed it and Tim made it. I love it but that doesn't help you with a J-frame.

I used to have a PCS but can't remember which model. It was well made and I'd consider one again if I had the need.

Other than that I'd go with a nemesis. I find them a tad bulky as well but for the money and ready availability given my rare pocket carry needs you can't really beat them.

Scott at RKBA Holsters:

http://rkbaholsters.com/pocketcarry.html

They are very well made, and I have both a LH and RH model.

This maker.

After many years and many different makers, I've settled on this one. If you ask, he will make your holster from a single layer of leather, which makes for an incredibly thin, yet stable, pocket holster. Surprisingly, this holds up quite well. I have since shifted to off-side pocket carry, but the strong-side, single-layer pocket holster he made for me some years ago, and was carried every day for a five year period, is still quite serviceable.

Probably the "nicest" of the ones I kept is a Kramer; a bit bulky, but solid as a rock.

The UM #3 actually works like a champ, but wears out in fairly short order. It also has the most potential for moving around in the pocket, depending upon your pocket, etc.

I was rather underwhelmed with the Nemesis. It is as bulky (i.e., thick) as the Kramer, yet doesn't fit in the pocket as well. In fact, it felt like I was carrying a half-dozen wadded-up handkerchiefs in that pocket. However, I kept it because it does have a purpose for me; I use it to "protect" a G19 when I throw same into the glove box for my wife when she is out and about with me.

Not surprisingly, pocket holsters are every bit as involved and personal as a belt holster. You need to try a variety before settling on one.

It's supposed to be a strip pouch, I didn't know a J frame loader would fit.

They used to sell the holster as a kit with the strip; http://www.tuffproducts.com/Pocket_Roo_Pocket_Holster_p/5077-tta.htm

I've used a Kramer Pocket Holster for longer than I can remember, probably 20 years on the original. The kydex shell look just like a wallet to anyone looking closely. The hook on top keeps the holster in the pocket during the draw, and also provides a shelf for your thumb to push against, helping the draw process. I've used the Mika also and it was OK, but I much prefer the Kramer.

It is a size 10. I had pull one stich out for the SL variant to fit. I'm sure a hks would fit if two stitches are pulled. For 20 bucks its really a great pocket holster.

I use an uncle mikes #3 with a piece of kleenex box velcro-taped to the outside of it to break up the outline. It works pretty well for me.
I also have a galco one for larger pockets, but I don't use it much.
For me, the hardest part about pocket carry is finding pants that both fit well and have front pockets that are big enough.

I've used a Mika and am currently using an Uncle Mike. When it wears out I will probably go with the Nemesis based on how it has worked out as a pocket holster for my Beretta Mdl 21.

Indeed. I think I bought my first RH RKBA holster about 7 or 8 years ago? I don't remember him having a website, we traded emails. It still works, and looks fine after all that time.

I've had LH one for about 2-3 years, I think. I've always ordered the smooth leather interior with a rough-side out.

They are definitely smaller than the Nemesis, and it's a lot easier to deploy, frankly. I was on the range this morning with some people from P-F.com, and I like how it's less conspicuous than the Nemesis as well.

I think Steve will do horsehide if you ask. But I've never worried about it, since I have not worn out one of his holsters. The Mika lasted me about 4 years.

I have a J-frame Nemesis, it's probably in a box or drawer someplace.

Another vote for RKBA. I have the ambi version, fit is excellent. Steve is great to work with, quality is excellent and fairly fast turn-around. Highly recommended. I used to run kydex pocket holsters, but there is just something about leather. Once they break in, they are excellent.

But I've never worried about it, since I have not worn out one of his holsters.

Yup. When I ordered a new one a few months back, I sent him photos of the original he had made for me. Worn, sweat-stained, rough around the edges… but still eminently serviceable. He expressed amazement at how well it had held up. IOW, every bit as well as the Kramer that cost three times as much. I bought my Kramer the same time LSP552 bought his. While I probably haven't worn mine as much as he has his, due to my search for something a bit less bulky, I did use it when off-duty for quite some time. I still have it, and would not hesitate to use it.

But the RKBA offering is just more… compact? Less bulk in the pocket. I have allowed several big Nemesis fans to try my RKBA example. The expression on their faces when they realize viva'la'difference is… interesting.;)

Yeah, unfortunately there's no Nemesis equivalent to Uncle Mike's "Size 3" which, although meant for 380s, has always worked well for me in keeping a J-frame oriented in fairly tall and narrow outside breast pockets on winter coats.

Yup. I've worn out a couple of those. I'm now sold on the RKBA leather example for my J's, but I still have my last #3. An Iver Johnson TP-22 lives in it these days, in the safe.

I've owned many holsters from Tim and Occidental, in fact he made me this one off M&P 9c Pocket holster. But man it was chunky lol. I was warned that Pocket Carry of a gun that sized might be a bit of a stretch, but I had to find out myself.

And for now I found a rebranded Remora pocket holster locally after cruising the local shops, and it looks similar to the Nemesis.
It works well, if I wear it out I'll get the Nemesis.

I have found after a couple of years the Nemesis will mold to the gun enough, and lose enough of the sticky, that the holster will start pulling out attached to the gun. A friend of mine just had that happen to him with his 640

I bought mine in 5-2012.
It has formed into the 642 shape.
But hasn't pulled out with the revolver.

I also bought the Colt DS sized holster for my M642.

I also like the cheaper Mikes or Blackhawk pocket holster.

You are right Chuck I wouldn't want the surprise at all.

WOW pocket carry a 640? I wish I could pull it off.

The 640 and 649 at my 2 favorite Jframes in 357mag or in 38spl+P only
With 3 finger grips I shoot those more accurately than any of my service pistols . 21feet.

PCS French Curve. I find the top edge of the soft holsters like the Nemesis pushes against the pants fabric and thus prints more than I'm happy with. The thin PCS without the excess material above the cylinder's edge is great in the pocket and hides my j frames very well.

For my 642 I have been using the Desantis Nemesis. It works for the task, but IMHO adds a lot of bulk because of its thickness. I have used one of these for a Kahr PM9 and may buy one for a J-frame:

I will probably email Tom at DSG to see what magic he can work first.

It will be nice to see what Tom comes up with for a minimal bulk kydex pocket holster.

However, since a small revolver is relatively bulky compared to normal pocket dwelling items; it may be a case of "if you cant beat em', join em" (embrace the bulk). Paying homage to the great idea Mr Greg Kramer had, I made a pocket holster. This is my latest diy holster, I like it so far.

Is that a big wallet, or?...
http://i.imgur.com/Zy9psMil.jpg

just an LCR in a pocket holster, I call it the Black-K (kind of like black sheep); its a blackhawk/unclemikes size 03, with a piece of kydex hot glued to it. The kydex was molded to a very large wallet.

For years I've been using pocket holsters made from plastic milk jugs for J-frames and small autos; thin, light, stiff, stays in pocket during draw, cheap!
