Does anyone have one of these?
http://www.recoilweb.com/aegis-enhanced-a-great-carry-belt-32291.html

I was excited when I saw these advertised last fall. Looks like a great new option.

They said deliveries were going to start in January but I haven't seen any user reviews and Ares took it off their website...

Couldn't get one in 1.75" so I went with a Volund.

I was part of the initial test group on these. I have never in my life worn a better belt for everyday carry. It is literally the only thing I have worn since the day I got it with the exception of the couple times I needed a dressy leather belt. I am using a FDE ish one and I will be getting a black one when they are available. I need to start selling stuff out of my "belt drawer" as most will never see use again.

Can you compare it to a Volund and Ares Ranger as far as stiffness?

I'm looking for something in between the two, stiffness wise. I LOVE the low pro Volund hook but just wish it was a little stiffer.

I'm hoping an Aegis with the new buckle will fit my needs.

Any thoughts?

I have an Aegis and a Ranger. Love the Aegis. Stiffness is comparable to the Ranger and more user friendly. I've been wearing the belt pretty much every day since I got one of the pre - production belts. A DEFINITELY my favorite belt thus far.

I want to snag one once production catches up. What is your, meaning anyone with experience, preference regarding the tail? I am not exactly sure how the buckle works, but I think I would like less tail sticking out but am afraid I won't be able to get the belt as tight as I prefer. Anyone with insight?

I'm curious on the stiffness take on this.

I've never had an Ares, but I did have a 1.75" Wilderness with the nylon stiffener. The compliance of the Volund actually makes it more comfortable on the hips.

Pretty much sums it up. While it is stiff, it seems more comfortable than the Ranger. They work REALLY well for AIWB.

If you want less of a tail you can go with a smaller size.

I find it to be very comfortable.

1.5" and feels more stable than my old 5.11 1.75" Casual belt.

The buck elle is a friction device and I've never had it come loose. Actually there's been times when new where it was hard to get off.

From the Ares Gear FaceBook page: https://www.facebook.com/AresGear/posts/10152597054309517:0

Aegis Update:

1 - Aegis Preorders are CLOSED. We will not accept any more
Aegis-family orders until we add Aegis-family belts to the website for
standard (4 week leadtime) purchase.

2 - We expect (please note our use of the word "expect" instead of
"guarantee") to begin shipping more Aegis-family belts and completing
more of the preorders on Monday (2/10). We've been told by the buckle
manufacturer that they'll have enough buckles for us this week to fill
ALL of the preorders. If this is accurate, we expect to fill the
preorders very quickly.

3 - The Aegis-family belts will not be available for purchase until
every preorder has been shipped, in the order in which they were placed
with us. This allows us to guarantee that we take care of our current
(and very patient) customers first.

If one carries IWB and a couple spare magazines. I found that the insert isn't really needed.

I bought a 1.5 5stitch ( without insert) wilderness belt in 1999 -2012. I wore that belt every day and its the same stiffness as it was new.

I had to give it up in 2012 and by a larger 38W 5stitch. getting fat

The buckle. The rigid belt with the pull through military type buckle (much better quality than the military brass ones) allows you to really get it "perfect". It blends with anything and works great with appendix rigs. I like the Raptor and Cobra buckle stuff for "over" belts, but the Aegis is my favorite for running through loops.

Been wearing an Aegis for a few months so far. I like it a lot, so much that I bought a second in a different color. But I have a question for you Ares Gear Aegis wearer's/users? Anyone have issue with the belt getting so locked up at the buckle that it won't release with hand/finger pressure? I've had the cam/roller go all the way over and lock so that I had to tap each side with a nylon face hammer a few times to get it unlocked and doff my gear, that stinking thing was stuck like chuck! It better be because the old school version / buckle sucked big time! It would loosen up over time in the field

The one thing I love about the Wilderness 5 stitch Belt is that you can really tighten down the belt. Plus they are cheap for as long as they last.

Ot looks to be more of a typical gray rather than green. They have some better pics on their face book page. My next belt will probably be an urban gray Aegis with black buckle.

I definitely wear it twice as often so IMO...yes. Comfort and concealment both get a nice bump. I don't need to crank it down as much to get a nice grip tuck and the buckle hides your holster loops really well.

That's interesting, and reinforces to me how personal these things can be.

I've owned a handful of Wilderness 5-stitch belts, and I've never once had an issue with them cutting into me. The belt 'rolls' enough that it comfortably conforms to me as I move, but still offers satisfactory support to whatever I put on it. If I were hanging heavy things on it externally (i.e. a heavy pistol OWB), the roll might bother me, but all my heavy stuff stays IWB.

My Volund Atlas, on the other hand, doesn't roll at all. I know that in the gun community, this is generally considered to make the Atlas superior. Unfortunately, the Atlas cuts into me, and I can't wear it for sustained periods of time. Its inability to roll/conform not only causes me discomfort, but it sometimes makes the entire belt "print" as if I was wearing a hula hoop.

I would just use the Wilderness and call it a day, but I don't like the size, weight, noise, and footprint of the buckle. Ideally, I guess I'm looking for a belt [almost] as flat as the Atlas, but [almost] as flexible as the Wilderness. If the Aegis fits that general description, I'll have to try one.

For what it's worth, I'm a skinny bag of bones, which is definitely one of the factors in this equation.

I should be more specific here. If I were carrying anything but AIWB or was okay with turning the belt, the Volund would likely still be better. It's a more comfortable design, but the flexibility in the buckle kills it. If I could get a solid connection on the two sides of the belt up front in the Volund, it'd likely be the best of both.

My Aegis came in the mail this morning.
I've been wearing it for about 2 hours now.
I wear a 33" waist Levi's and went with a Medium belt which is perfect. I have about a 6" tail without a holster and around 4" with a P2000 stuffed AIWB.
First impressions:
Very stiff belt. Hopefully it won't cut into my girlish hips after 10-12 hours. It's much stiffer than even my Wilderness 5-stitch.
The buckle is much thicker than I anticipated, it's still fairly low profile due to it's shape but it is a chunk of metal.
The doubled-thick scuba webbing is just about the perfect thickness. It holds my Clich-Pick mounted on a small Tek-Lok perfectly. Some leather belts are too thick for the Tek-Lok to close properly. It also works with my Darkstar clip holster and my Raven VG2.

I got one from LaRue a week ago. Wore it around the house for a half hour and put it right back in the box and returned it.

As Jody stated, the buckle is a monstrosity. It is an inch thick and must weigh at least 6 oz. Belt was far too stiff for me. It is a bit too large and rigid for my tastes. I sent it back and ordered an Atlas from Volund.

Just got my regular Aegis belt in the mail today. Will be able to test it out on a 4 hour drive to Hotlanta.

Stiffer than my Wilderness Instructor 5 Stitch. Seems perfect for appendix. No problem trying to get the tag end right, like I do with the Wilderness belt. Less noisy than the Wilderness Instructor too.

Easy to get the belt just right as far as snugness. I'm a size 36" waist, and I got the XL. I have 7" of tag left over with a AIWB holster. I'm a little worried that might be too much tag and will interfere with a reload worn on the left hip if I wear a OWB holster. Will probably be able to rotate the buckle around to make it clear.

So far, I really like it.

ETA: It took exactly 4 weeks to arrive.

Any updates from those who recently got theirs or are comparing the regular Aegis to the Aegis enhanced?

I got my Enhanced last weekend. Compared to my regular Aegis, the difference is negligible.

But a few things I've noticed:
The tail of the regular seems to really lock into the buckle unlike the Enhanced. The Enhanced loosened up while riding in the car a few times. Also, the thickness of the Enhanced fits my IWB kydex belt loops better. Seems like it affects the tuck of my JMCK AIWBs and Shaggy just a little bit. Leather belts loops fit either just fine.

I think if I was wearing more gear than a pistol and my pocket contents or wore OWB frequently I would go with the Enhanced. For EDC, I like the the regular a tiny bit more. Also, I recommend the stainless buckle as the melonite is already starting to show wear on my Enhanced.

This is the difference in lockup but that might change with more wear.
2438

2437

Edit: I have a 34" waist and ordered the Small so there's very little tail exposed when AIWB or IWB. There's 3-5" exposed when disarmed. I like it that way so it doesn't require the elastic keeper loops.

Mine came in last week and all I can say wow! In the past all I used was the “Wilderness” style (leather before that) but this belt is on a completely different level. I got the enhanced, it’s only ten bucks more so why not. The buckle is the best part. It’s also very comfortable when not carrying and doesn’t look like a gun belt.

JodyH

I've been using my Aegis (regular) for about a month straight now.
I've used it for everything from a full 3gun loadout (OWB holster, dbl. pistol mag carrier, AR mag carrier, 2 shotgun shell carriers) to AIWB (P2000 down to a 442 J-frame in a VG2) to nothing more than holding my pants up.
It's done it all very well.
The Aegis is probably the best nylon belt I've ever used.
I still prefer my Saddleback leather for comfort and style but the Aegis works better when it comes to function over a wider variety of situations. The infinite adjustment is what makes the difference when it comes to adjusting to different holsters.

1slow
07-04-2014, 11:32 AM
Because of my loadout my buckle is at about 10:00 with my Wilderness 5 stitch. Will the Aegis buckle work well in that location ?
I considered cutting the triangular part of the Wilderness buckle off to reduce the footprint of the buckle.
This is with closed front cover AIWB. Obviously with open front cover and 3:00 carry the buckle size is not as much of an issue because of being in the 12:00 position.

I've had mine since mid April and I wear it everyday. I was using a 5.11 leather belt that I'd had for at least 2 years. I liked it, but wanted something to hold the weight of the gun better. Tried something from SOE, but it didn't fit right and just wasn't really a fan. The SOE belt did make me realize that the double layer nylon was far better at holding up the weight of a gun. When I saw the Aegis I thought it was a good idea, but there wasn't much info on it yet. $100 is a lot to spend on a belt, but the few reviews I found seemed good and this belt just seemed like it would be perfect.

4 months down the road and I'm very happy. I've carried a commander size steel frame 1911 in an OWB holster with this and it holds the weight quite well. I normally appendix carry a G19/23 and have found it works excellent for that. Whether I am armed or not I wear this belt. The true test will be to see how well it holds up over time. Hopefully I can get a least 2 years out of it. We shall see. Hopefully another company can make something just as good, but more affordable.

Does stiffness help conceal better or just support better? Will a stiffer belt help tuck the grip of my pistol in my JM AIWB holster better so I won't have to tighten it down as much?

Because of my loadout my buckle is at about 10:00 with my Wilderness 5 stitch. Will the Aegis buckle work well in that location ?
I considered cutting the triangular part of the Wilderness buckle off to reduce the footprint of the buckle.
This is with closed front cover AIWB. Obviously with open front cover and 3:00 carry the buckle size is not as much of an issue because of being in the 12:00 position.
That's my concern also. If I carried strong side I'd get it but I'm worried about the buckle. Got the Volund Atlas and it's too stiff for me, but the no buckle is nice.

Also Levi's 541's are the perfect stylish carry jean, but the belt loops are right where my buckle and holster loop go :(

Can't anyone make something just perfect for me :o

What I found is I CAN'T tighten down a stiffer belt. It hurts my hip. Ymmv. Wilderness 5 stitch is a good mix of support and flexibility and I'm trying the Volund slim next as I want no buckle.

So I find it's only for support to answer directly.

Eta it might help concealment if your pistol is top heavy or rides really high.

My daughter has a habit of standing on my belt/pistol when I hold her so I wanted to try something stiffer to try and support her weight

Thank you for the reply. Funny both my boys stand on my belt when I'm carrying them. It actually helps when carrying them for a extended time.

I've been using the Aegis Enhanced for a couple months now, mostly for AIWB w/ JM Custom and Keepers holsters. Absolutely love it. Perfect fit no matter what holster/pants combo I am wearing and I find it very comfortable. Wore it with IWB at 4:00 for a while before I transitioned completely to AIWB and it worked great for that as well, even 5" 1911's. Just ordered another one in Coyote/Bronze. Last belts I will ever buy. Got tired of wearing out various leather belts and compromising on the fit.

I've been wearing a non enhanced Aegis for a couple months now and I've finally decided that it isn't for me. It's definitely very stiff and I love the adjustability that the buckle allows. It just isn't comfortable for me so it'll go on swap. I think it is causing part of my issue with appendix carry lately. With the Aegis and Dark Stars minimal clip holster the butt of my Shield pushes out and prints badly. With a five stitch Wilderness it doesn't. Maybe I have an odd shaped waist or something.

For reference I find the Wilderness five stitch frequent flyer belt to be very comfortable.

Could someone measure the buckle and tell me how thick it is? Thanks.
