I've been considering the American Security Defense Vault (http://www.amsecusa.com/defense_vault/) or the GunVault TacVault (http://www.gunvault.com/tacvault-4810.html) for storing my EDC handgun as well as a long gun during the overnight hours.

Currently I have a GunVault minivault that my pistol goes in to when it's not on my person for short time periods- while I'm in the shower, or sleeping in after the kids wake up on a Saturday, etc. Otherwise, the pistol is on me in the holster. At night I put the pistol in the the minivault in my night stand drawer, leave the drawer open to the nightstand, and I put a SureFire handheld light in the minivault lid propping the lid open the minivault open for quick access to the light and the pistol. (this way I only have to slide the light inside the lid and push down to lock up the pistol for instance on a Saturday morning if I'm sleeping in and the kids wake up and storm the master bedroom.)
Currently my gun safe is in the garage, and that's where my long guns are stored. We'd like to have a long gun in the master bedroom with us overnight, but trapsing up and down to the garage each day to retrieve and store the rifle is a complete PITA, so it just sits in the safe.
But these two storage devices (I hesitate to call them safes, I guess they're locking boxes really) have me intrigued.
Anybody have one or have experience with one?
I don't really have good place to store the TacVault where it would be out of sight (or at least out of line of sight from the door - I'd rather not advertise to every person who walks past the master bedroom door that I've got a storage device with firearms in there). That's why I'm curious about and leaning towards picking up one of the AmSec Defense Vaults...
The Defense Vault would allow me to basically operate as I do now - when I go to bed and get undressed, I can unlock the box, pull the tray out giving me access to the rifle (patrol ready), and it gives me a place to put the pistol on the tray as well.
If the kids storm the room before we roll out of bed (which is unusual), I can slide the drawer closed and lock it. Then back to sleep, and the firearms are secured from the kids reach until I wake up and get dressed, at which point I'd holster up.
Of course buying a second safe for upstairs storage is an option - but my space in the closet and attic areas is very limited, so finding a place for it would be much more challenging than one of these "skinny" storage boxes. So while buying a 2nd safe for upstairs is a very good option, it's definitely my last resort at this point in time because of the space constraints.
