Evolution defined

I've seen the term 'evolution' used in reference to training classes quite a bit in this forum, as in 'training evolutions'. Is there something specific meant by it, or is it just a trendy word to use? I'll assume the former, given the quality of this forum's participants, but I've never seen the word 'evolution' defined in a training context.

I picked up the term in that context from Army training, seems to be used a lot by folks all over the .mil
