Okay so I am getting my wife (and I) a M4S 14" SBS

Wife wants to shoot three gun with it - but was told it's not legal, I looked thru all the rules but do not see a min barrel length requirement.

I understand it is capacity limited - but for me its a Breacher, and for her a gun game toy.

Which 3-gun, outlaw, USPSA, 3GN, or IMA?

If she is serious about 3 Gun, as opposed to just looking for an excuse to shot the M4, I would get her a Beretta 1301, Benelli M2, Versmax or something like those. The M4 has the reputation for being a lousy performing 3 Gun shotgun. You might be able to Google it up, but there is a great Benny Hill line about seeing someone show up at a 3 Gun match with a Benelli M4 and just smiling, knowing that shotgun was not competitive.

I use an M2, could never justify the M4 and the ID works for my loads.

No rule against short barrels that I'm aware of.

The only caveat is the requirement for an approved ATF Form 20 - 5320.20 Application to Transport NFA Firearms (https://www.atf.gov/sites/default/files/assets/pdf-files/atf-f-5320-20.pdf) should you be taking it out of state.
