As of yesterday there are only five people signed up for the New Year's Eve match at the NRA.

If the match doesn't come close to filling by close of business on Monday, it will be canceled.

If you wish to sign up and haven't, you can call 703-267-1402 between now and Monday evening.

Love to be there Todd, but I have other plans (that don't include traveling 1300 miles.)

Someone else will just have to finish last place. :)

I have plans on NYE, but if I didn't, I would consider going.

Before I show up at one of these, I had some questions. I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to competition. I'm competent with gun handling and shooting, and I've taken a few classes that went beyond punching holes in stationary paper, but most of my shooting is the usual non-tactical stuff at an indoor range. I do go about 2x or 3x a month, and I try to mix it up with some drills, including drawing, and I did shoot at a IPSC or IDPA competition a long time ago. Would these KSTG matches be good for me, or would I be way out of my league? If they are a good fit, they sound like something I would be interested in attending regularly since I don't live too far away.

I think you would be fine if you take your time and don't draw from concealment. You wouldn't be the first newbie so don't worry. Just tell the match personnel that this is your first match and BE SAFE.

Thanks for the response. I have taken CCW classes where I drew many times from concealment, but will default to keeping it simple the first time the timer is running.

Totally agree on safety being the number 1 (and number 2 and number 3...) priority. I would rather be laughed at because I'm slow rather than do something stupid. In my one and only competition, I finished DFL, but I finished ahead of the guy who was DQ'd because of a safety violation.

I'll try to catch it next time.

Concealment is required at KSTG matches. Just go slow and be safe until you're comfortable.

I'd actually describe KSTG as one of - if not the - most accessible matches I've participated in. The match atmosphere is fairly low key as well. Since it is your first KSTG match, I'd ask the guys if they could put you last in the firing order so you could observe some others run through before taking your turn. As others have said, go slow and take your time.

I'm in for 9:00PM, and I got my friend to sign up on that relay too (it'll be his first time at KSTG, but I'm sure he'll be OK)...and hopefully my other friends will sign up as well.

Shall I shoot my J-frame with MDS, then? or am I going to be the only one in the wheelgun division again?

I was also going to consider using something reasonable, but figured I should represent revolver class and join Mjohn3006 in the ridiculous class, so I'll again be using my .44 Magnum handcannon.

Thanks to everyone who came out on New Year's Eve to shoot the match. And huge thanks to cclaxton, KevinB, LittleLebowski, and zeroflux for setting up and running the match. Our normal crew was unavailable today and these guys stepped up to do all the heavy lifting. Thanks also to mjohn3006 for maintaining order and helping out during the match.

Happy New Year, everyone. Stay safe!

Heck of a lot of fun, guys! And I'm still giggling at the fact that my last shot of the match (and of 2013) ended up dismantling part of the last stage (video will be forthcoming; I just got back from a NYE party and I'm now going to bed).

You got two procedurals (10s) so it wouldn't have affected your placement. You also got four foot faults failing the sobriety test which would bring you to 62.08 and still wouldn't change your placement. I don't know if that makes you feel any better but I bet Kevin is smiling about it.

Nope, they were just 1s penalties because otherwise some people would have been destroyed. One guy got four.

Happy 2014! The New Year's Eve match was tremendous fun. I hope we do variations of Stage 1 in the future; I particularly enjoyed that stage. Perhaps if we use playing cards instead of index cards (assuming the rules allow that) and you only shoot the color or type of card you turn over. I will try to put together a quick video, but in the meantime, a photo to immortalize the 2013 match:

Nope, they were just 1s penalties because otherwise some people would have been destroyed. One guy got four.

After I shot and got two foot faults, someone else had the best idea: rather than walking heel-toe, he turned his feet at a diagonal to the line, thus decreasing the possibility that his foot would not be on the tape. But that strategy may not work with an actual walk-of-shame DUI test administered by the local cop. (Although it would be guaranteed to get him to laugh.)

Wondering if next time the COF requires heel-toe?

I think this COF should go into the IDPA collection on http://cofexchange.com/Cof/index.action?

Todd, you okay if I post it and give you credit?

Somebody mentioned a polymer pistol magazine pouch they were raving about.
It was a clip-on style, easy remove, easy on. I think they one they had was beige/brown color.

Anybody remember which brand/model?

I've never had a problem but I know someone who did and he promptly got a free replacement. You could easily adjust tension with heat.

Thanks,
I ordered three Glock ones, one CZ75 one (to try out...have Comp-Tac right now), and one AR-15 for 3gun.
The prices are really good, too. Wish they made 4x4 shotgun shell caddies.

Thanks again.

I wasn't there on New Year's Eve, but there are a few of us who are KSTG regulars using the Kytex carriers for the Glock. No problems to report on tension. A great carrier at a great price.
